Around 480 million years ago, in the shallow seas of what is now Morocco, 2 Aegirocassis clash for dominance over a rich plankton feeding ground. After a brief struggle, the victor claims the area and peacefully filters a dense school of plankton through its specialized appendages. Meanwhile, the defeated rival lurks nearby, waiting for an opportunity to steal a share of the meal when the winner lets its guard down. (OC)

Around 261 million years ago, in what is now South Africa, a pair of Diictodons worked together to survive. While the male remained at the burrow, guarding it and staying alert for predators, the female ventured out in search of food before returning safely to their shelter. (OC)
