Something is wrong

I ask Siri simple questions. It takes forever to tell me something went wrong. I have not had good luck with the new Siri.

Podcast

When I play a podcast and stop anytime during the play. I come back later and it has gone back in the podcast up to 10 minutes sometimes. Why does it do this and can I change it in settings? Seems to be a bug or glitch.

i tested out 8 trakt alternatives. here are my findings

some things before we start:

  • I've used trakt for nearly 12 years as a free user
  • i mainly use it for tracking tv shows, so progress and calendar are crucial to me
  • I've also dropped A LOT of shows over the years, so easy dropping is also very important to me
  • however, i also watch films and i don't want to get separate services for that, so no TV-only services here
  • i tried out only web alternatives. i am probably too dumb to self-host, i don't really care for apps as i did ok for years before trakt established its app. to me, android app is a bonus, but not a crucial feature. i also didn't test any alternative trakt clients, as i wouldn't bet on the fact that they wouldn't mess up with its api and backend and stuff. maybe i will test some in the future
  • i only rarely use lists (watchlist is basically enough for me)
  • i don't rate, comment, follow or basically don't use/see trakt as a social platform so i won't be reviewing a lot of these features
  • i also did not use collection functionality
  • I've also tracked some web shows/podcasts
  • i'm also completely ok if it has no player integrations or scrobbling as i always add what i watched manually

i feel like i coved most of my bases when it comes to my ranking criteria so here's the alternatives in no particular order:

  1. TMDB - most of the sites i used used its api, and so does trakt, so i decided to check it out. however, it is NOT a tracker, so I've already deleted my account there.
  2. punchplay - one of my favs BUT with a lot of potential red flags. imports trakt well, although not automatically. you have to export your trakt data and import json file(s) - i had 12 history files. also i had to wait a couple of minutes after a couple of imports, but it imported impeccably. missed some web shows/podcasts as it's not in TMDB database but that's ok with me. it's gamified, and you can level up the more you track and get trophies for watching a number films/shows of specific genres and such. these give you poins for cosmetics, such as GIF avatar, avatar frames and username colors. these show up in community tab. honestly this could be great if it had more users - but it's very clear the app is very new (i think it launched last month). as i tested imported my history yesterday, today there was an announcement that you can import your ratings and watchlists too and it imported my watchlist just fine. you cannot filter in the lists or add people to the lists. overall i don't think you can browse by cast or crew either, if that's something you did on trakt. i could not yet find the way to drop shows from calendar and you can only see the progress of your last 6 shows, so i really hope this gets added sooner rather than later. stats are free and cover last 12 months. what are the red flags i mentioned? besides it's newness, i could only find its github and i'm not a programmer but it think it's vibe coded. still, works much better than v3. UI is also very neat and functional, although my preference would be not to focus on so much on the cosmetics and community, but rather library, history, progress, etc. if it moves in that direction, it might me my trakt replacement eventually.
  3. flicklist - another close favourite. imported well, same issues with web shows. received email that some of the shows have been added! and it will add more continually if they get addded to the database. also imported the shows i've dropped, but it's very easy to drop them here - from up next, that is. calendar is still clogged with shows i have not watched for years - i really hope this gets fixed, because now calendar is pretty much unusable for me, and to me, that's the first thing i want to look at. not quite sure why everything got imported to the watchlist as well. it's divided to different sections - plan to watch, watching, completed, on hold, dropped. to me, watching is redundant, and dropped just clogs everything up. i must preferred when how it was hidden in trakt's settings if case i ever need to find them. to me, watchlist on trakt was just "plan to watch" but on hold, i admit, is a pretty good section, as i have quite a few shows that i haven't dropped, just did not keep up with for a few years, that would fit it really well here. i'm not a big anime watcher, but i've seen a few, so to me it doesn't really make sense to have it seperated but it also doesn't bother me that much either. UI is also nice and easy to understand.
  4. medialib - this one has more than movies, tv and anime - you can also track manga, books, games (i guess wester comics are considered books here - that's why i don't really like anime/manga separation, but that's neither her nor there). honestly, i'm 50/50 on this one. it's fine, i feel like it has most of trakt's functionality and more, e.g. boards, where you can mix and match films and tv with books and games. but i'm not really digging the UI. it's not bad per se, but just... too big and clunky for my liking. it also doesn't have a calendar. it says it does, but it's actually up next - the shows that you've recently watched. stats are behind the pro subscription, which is $7.26/mo or $72.60/y.
  5. simkl - oh boy, this is apparently the big one. to me, this is borderline unusable. on paper, this SHOULD work. i thought it imported my trakt data well, then i looked at my shows and my woes started. UI is garbage. not yet v3-level garbage, but garbage nonetheless. it has the same "plan to watch, watching, completed, on hold, dropped" system as flicklist but to sort everything there is just a nightmare. you have to hover on an icon, then hover on a menu item to show the full menu with the list option. took me wayyy too long, and i couldn't believe i'm still doing this bs in the year 2026. then i checked out my history and it just... put shows i watched years ago to this week. huh? at least the podcast i watch got imported fine. also it combines the binges under one item, which you can expand, which is admittedly a nice touch, but yeah. OH and quite a few of shows I've completed only show up as 98-99%??? maybe they have some specials listed as episodes, idk. UI is worse than medialib's. automatically assigned my country (from IP. AND lists it there) and me as male. there are no options for non-binary or other, just male/female. ugh. i guess it has its pros - you can import from a bunch of places, not just trakt. they seem to be actively working on beta v2, which might be much better, only time will tell, but you can only access it when you're a pro member. same issue with anime being separate as in medialib and flicklist. i'll probably keep the profile just in case it becomes much much better. not itching to come back to this, even if the calendar after dropping the shows is as it should be.
  6. flickfocus - honestly, this just looks great after the last few. otherwise, i can't say much, as it has no import from trakt (or anything else)option. saw the dev say it's coming on reddit maybe 4 years ago but it's still not there. could be an option if you've just now started tracking or want a fresh start, but with the data I've gathered i just can't be arsed to do it all manually.
  7. trakio - connection to trakt fails on me on two browsers I've tested (ff nightly and chrome), so to me this is a firm no so far. maybe this will get fixed.
  8. tv time - no import either, so this also starts on a bad foot. calendar also seems to be ok, and it has a great option to track the current episode, and mark all the previous episodes as watched. so for example, if i mark invincible s04e03 as watched, i can simultaneously mark all the eps, from s01e01 to s04e02 watched as well - so that's an option not to deal with importing the bunch of shows that you no longer watch, but then again, i would lose the actual timestamps when i watched these - much to think about if the improvements for other services that i want do not come. i just wish this was not so app-y, as UI elements are also too big for my taste, but it is usable. no unnecessary bells and whistles here.

TDLR: all the options, frankly suck, if you, like me, have dropped a lot shows, as no import accounts for these. some are great for dealing with these, some are torturous (sideyeing simkl here), some just dgaf and lack that function and clog your calendar/up next/history. for my needs, punchplay and flicklist are the most promising. wish flickfocus and tv time could import, otherwise will need a lot of time to make them usuable. might keep an eye for simkl v2, but not holding by breath for it or the others honestly.

hope someone finds this helpful, if you have questions on some other functionalities i didn't mention i might be able to answer. meanwhile i'm off to watch new outlander and track it in, uhh, three or so services now. ugh.
