Madiwke vs Welgevonden game reserve?

Hi all,

My partner and I are planning our honeymoon for late April next year. We are wanting to do a safari in South Africa (first time doing a safari).

Due to budget and a few other reasons our main choices are:

Madiwke vs Welgevonden game reserve.

Madiwke seems to have better predator viewing from what I’m reading online but Welgevonden seems more intimate/better landscapes. Also seems a bit of a shorter drive from the airport.

Has anyone been to both? Any pros on cons at all? We just can’t make our mind up.

Thank you :)

Is it a bad idea to go on a day trip on Thursday?

Long story short, we have a big birthday on Thursday that we spent months and months planning a little day trip for. Our LO is 7 months old. My partners grown up in a very hot county and doesn’t see the issue of taking the LO with us since we’ve got a little fan, the snuzshade, sun cream and would be going into restaurants museums etc not just walking. However met up with some other mum friends today who thought I was mad for going out. We live in a new build and no matter what I do the room’s temperature today has not gone less than 29 so although she’s protected form the sun inside, the house feels much warmer than outside so I’m just obviously doing what any other normal person would do and asking the internet if they also think we’ve gone insane

Edit to say:

We live in the northwest…plan was to go even further north rather than south! We are traveling in our car fully equipped with ac)

Visiting Mauritius in May 2027 - any recommendations?

Hi everyone!!

We are hoping to visit Mauritius for our honeymoon in the first week of May. We are currently looking at all inclusive hotels (mainly for convenience but will for surely venture out and try the local cuisine). Just wanted to ask locals rather than ChatGPT - what things would you recommend for tourists to do? What are your must sees/“hidden gems”. We are hoping to do about 8-10 days.

Our travel agents have recommended some hotels near Quatre Cocos which I understand is on the east side of the island - would that be a bad choice for that time of the year? Any recommendations of where to stay (a bit of honeymoon luxury with culture)

Thank you all :)

Safari & Beach honeymoon

Hi,

We are looking for recommendations for safari & beach honeymoon for late April/beginning of May of next year. We have a little one and fortunately or unfortunately those are the only dates we are able to get away just the two of us. From a quick browse it seems like south Africa/Botswana are good for safari that time of the year and then Seychelles/Mauritius for beach but has anyone done that? Any recommendations of what companies to use etc? Or any other recs at all? We are a bit clueless as to where to even start from...we live in the UK and ideally we want to keep it below £12000 for about 12 days!

How do I make my brain work again after maternity leave?

Going back soon as an IMT2 after maternity leave and honestly feel like medicine has completely left my brain. I’ve got PACES to do as well which isn’t helping the anxiety.

Towards the end of pregnancy I had some complications and medicine genuinely became the last thing I cared about. I remember being about 34 weeks pregnant during that horrible heatwave, exhausted on ward round, and a consultant randomly asked me the byproducts of the Krebs cycle. My mind went completely blank and I genuinely thought I was going to cry there and then. Since then I’ve convinced myself I’ve forgotten everything medical.

I’ll be doing KIT days and a phased return, and baby will be starting nursery about a month before I go back which I’m hoping will help us both settle into a routine a bit first.

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for easing myself back in and rebuilding confidence a bit before returning? Podcasts, YouTube channels, PACES resources, anything really. Not trying to become an MRCP machine overnight while looking after a baby, just want to feel a bit less clinically useless before day one back
