ASDA Stockport must be one of the worst managed supermarkets in the country. Front doors locked with no explanation. Disabled and elderly left to their own devices trying to work out how to get in. The place wants dropping.

Brinnington - honest opinions

We’ve seen a house we really like for sale in Brinnington, but after looking at people’s opinions of the area online, we’re having second thoughts!

I’ve never grown up in a posh area so that side doesn’t bother me too much, but as I have a young toddler(2), the safety element is something that I do need to be sure about. I’m fully aware that every area has their good and bad parts so just looking for peoples honest experiences and opinions.

Before people start commenting with “ if you can afford to look at a different area, do that “, we can’t 🤣 not for the size of property that we need and the budget that we have, but we’re not at a point where we desperately need to move right away so just wanted to get an idea of how the area is before fully committing.

Currently renting in Edgeley but have only been here for just over a year so don’t really know a lot of the area surrounding here (I’m originally from the South)

Thank you in advance!

Why is South Reddish becoming popular for buyers?

I have not lived in Stockport for a while (you can probs guess why from my name) but I have been wanting to move back for around 2 years now. One place I have always kept an eye on was Reddish (mainly the south area south of that ghost station) as it was a quick and nice walk to where my family are through the Vale, but house prices there for whatever reason has sky-rocketed up in the last year or 2 and it seems much, much harder to actually buy a house there now, much more than other areas in Stockport (albeit the other areas was a bit more expensive at the time). Just curious why this is?

Anyone know whether Stockport Library is permanently closed?

I know there’s like a new place in town can’t remember the name, I went in there when it was first open and I thought it was badly designed and was put off it.

I’ll be sad if this close the main library. I loved in there

Edit: I’ll give the stock another go, now it’s on its feet!

A6 police incident yesterday

I was driving to work yesterday at around 14:40 (on the A6 heading into Stockport), and the opposite side of the road was completely closed off with police tape from the library to the Town Hall Tavern. I got a bit closer and there were multiple police officers stood outside the Thai massage place opposite McDonalds. It all looked very serious and there was a woman stood outside the library visibly distraught.

I’ve not heard anything about it since, did anyone see this?

Anyone know what the ropes across lots of roads are about?

I may be being really stupid, but I’ve noticed lots of ropes across roads the past couple of weeks around Edgeley/stockport. Only asking because I’m nosy, it has no impact on my life😂

Arrested for mental health and in cuffs wth!?!

So on Friday I was basically arrested/detained (photo taken by mate, my witness, of me wearing handcuffs, hurt really bad). I was detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act 😕

My mum and dad called 999 on me and the police literally came, put me in handcuffs, whilst I was going through a panic attack, and took me away. After going through the process, I got let out on Sunday with a referral to a team to "look after me".

In this pic the cuffs are on my front, but about 10 mins later I was wearing them on the back after I went full panic mode and the officers changed my cuffs round and fucking tightened them like fuck.

Is this allowed under the law? Can the police do that to me when I’m going through a vulnerable time. They spent a rlly long time putting me through the restraint process which only amplified my mental health crisis and struggling.

The Pyramid is going to be on Channel 4 and I have absolutely no idea how to feel about this

Spent years slightly embarrassed to explain what the Pyramid is to people who do not know Stockport. Now it is apparently getting a documentary. Do we embrace this or is this the moment Stockport officially becomes a quirky destination and the rents go up. Cautiously proud but watching nervously.

Domestic laundry collection & delivery recs please

My washer/dryer has died again and I’m now wondering if it’s even worth replacing. I live in an apartment so limited on space and air drying is almost impossible for heavier clothing, towels, etc.

I know there’s a laundrette a 20-minute or so walk away… but, as an alternative, can anyone recommend domestic laundry services which do home collection and delivery to SK3 please? If you have a rough idea on pricing, that would also be really helpful. Thank you!

A good place to work from near the station

I have to take a work call tomorrow then jump straight on a train to London.

What are the best places to sit and work and take my call?

Super happy with a cafe with decent WiFi:-)

Weird frequency sound heard in Stockport at 3.15am this morning. Did anyone else hear it?

Woke me up and I’m a deep sleeper usually. Was very loud and slowly moved away over a few minutes and got quieter. Wasn’t like a sound me out my partner had heard before, it wasn’t a buzz of a helicopter or a plane but live on the flight path so checked flight radar immediately and no plane was overhead at that time. We don’t want to say it sounded like a UFO but we can’t put it down to anything else 😅😅

What is the Stockport food or drink spot that locals actually rate that has never been written up anywhere and that you would only find by living here long enough to hear about it?

Not the ones that appear in Manchester Evening News roundups. The one that has been quietly doing something excellent for years without needing any external validation. The place that people who live here treat as genuinely theirs and that visitors would walk straight past without knowing what they were missing.
