Valid startup or bad idea?

I’m a college student in Houston thinking about building a local-only social/dating app focused on connecting people in the same city instead of being another massive nationwide platform.
The idea is making it feel more community-based and centered around Houston culture, events, and college life.
Before investing a lot of time into it, I wanted honest feedback from people here:

Is a city-specific app actually interesting or unnecessary?
Would people realistically use something like this over existing apps?
Is the local/community angle enough to stand out?
What would make you personally try it?
What’s the biggest reason you think it could fail?
I’m genuinely looking for honest opinions and criticism before moving forward.

Valid start up or bad idea

I’m a college student in Houston thinking about building a Houston-only dating app focused on local community and connections instead of being another nationwide platform. I’d market it through local influencers, events, and college campuses, especially leading up to Halloween when people are more social.
Before investing too much time and money, I’d love honest feedback:

Is a city-specific dating app actually interesting or pointless?
Would people choose it over Hinge/Tinder?
Is local community branding enough to stand out?
What would make you try it?
What’s the biggest reason it could fail?
I’m looking for honest opinions, not validation.
