It would be really cool if I could choose proxy providers for my entry and exit points
so the way it works now, you have to go into the menu to filter out certain providers, choose either your exit or entry point then filter out a different set of providers and choose the proxy for the other point
Maybe mullvad could have some subtext on each proxy to show which provider each one is hosted by?
About that new fiasco with the unique identifier every windows device has had for...who knows how long?
Edit: I did some searching. You can block the services related to the GDID using simplewall
select one of the services, create a rule for it that blocks traffic both ways and give it a name, then apply that rule to the other services that facilitate this stupid shit
So my setup on my windows machines is pretty hard core.
I use simplewall to block all network access to pretty much everything on my system that doesn't need it to run
I use adguard for windows with DNS filters inside of it and I use it to enforce my NextDNS profile on all my windows devices too, since the VPN I use can't be used to identify specific devices on my NextDNS profile
I use HaGeZi ultimate on adguard and nextDNS and inside of nextDNS I have all the telemetry blocking lists turned on I also use adguard's DNS filters on both
so what would I have to block to make sure my windows devices don't send any pings to that system at microsoft that uniquely identifies each windows device?
would an adblocking DNS even help with that at all? This is unknown to me
Proton Lumo gave me different incorrect information until just now when it was honest & said there wasn't any specific technical information available about protonVPNs new implementation of wireguard
A tech at IBM said decades ago that AI should never make any management decisions...this is another example as to why
So I decided to ask Lumo about protonVPN's new "proton protocols" And all 4 sessions, it took me 3 attempts to make it figure out what I was asking about, and only on the fourth attempt earlier today, asking it specifically about the new protocols twice, it finally told me that there isn't any specific information about how the new protonVPN protocols work
one time it told me that it uses QUIC to some extent, another time it told me it just uses an upgraded version of the TLS wrapped in TCP on port 443, but the first time it just kept spitting out information about how the current, non-beta protocols work over and over.
then there was a time where it said that the TLS wrapped in TCP 443 was just a constant in all modes and that stealth was a super obfuscated version of that
AI as it is is never going to be a qualified substitute for any real job. Every time I type something into an AI it almost always responds with a bunch of shit that has nothing to do with what I asked, sometimes it takes awhile, but usually once I start asking for some niche, very obscure, very specific information it can't accurately or sometimes even coherently respond to what I actually put into it...sometimes when it gives me an answer, the information will have been outdated for over a year or more other times it will just spit out a bunch of bullshit that's just not true
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm autistic. I like knowing specific verbose details of things.
I actually heard a story about a lawyer who lost his license to practice law, because the AI he was using made up a court case that supposedly set a precedent that would've allowed him to win a case....but the AI was wrong.
Oddly enough I have the same problem whenever I talk to most people in my offline life. I'll say one thing and they'll respond to something that I either didn't say or has less than nothing to do with what I said.
Are the people who train these LLM models mentally handicapped or something?
now I guess none of these problems I'm having are that big of a deal.
But that legal case, the AI that lawyer was using was flat out making up bullshit on the spot. Imagine for a moment if a newbie journalist or a whistleblower who's not technically handy or a domestic violence victim needs information about how to communicate secretly with people who can help them and the information they get is just wrong or a work of pure fiction.
Don't use AI to find information about anything that matters, it won't give you the truth...don't use it for school work, don't use it for your job, don't use it for medical advice either
What does it mean if bridges are obfuscated with shadowsocks, but the anti-censorship method you choose isn't shadowsocks?
To the best of my knowledge, when you disable "DNS proxy" and "direct" leaving only bridges on in the API access menu
The bridge > entry point if multi-hop is enabled > exit point > internet
everywhere I looked it says bridges are obfuscated with shadowsocks, so what's happening if I use an anti-censorship protocol other than shadowsocks?
Feature Request: More obfuscation methods that work better in restrictive areas
A few things...
Something to compete with mullvad's "bridges" dedicate some of the proxies from a few dozen or so locations of your proxies for being "bridges" keep their IP addresses secret and rotate those IP addresses regularly, obfuscate the protocol with QUIC...also, we need a way to make it so alternative routing is always used even when it might not be deemed necessary in the moment
QUIC obfuscation. You can't do much of anything on the internet without QUIC active, so it's a very effective protocol to obfuscate your VPN connection inside of. I have it on good authority that stealth mode isn't very helpful in restrictive areas,
Amnezia WG. A newer protocol that uses a bunch of decoy packets to help hide the signatures of a normal VPN connection. I have it on good authority that it works well in a lot of bad places to be
DNS over HTTPS URL support in the custom DNS settings...and some real, genuine hard work to make the IPv6 address support in the custom DNS settings work consistently.
There's lots of different protonVPN users that would love all this stuff
why do I want this? The future is uncertain, lots of different scumbags in different governments want to ruin the internet
Chat control now fully active in the EU?
What does this mean for mullvad and its users? I heard from someone who responded to my previous post about this that the focus is only on communication apps, but how long will it be before VPNs in the EU are expected to submit to this kind of crap?
The head of the EU has already made statements about how she thinks VPNs need to be outlawed to keep people from bypassing age verification, so what happens to mullvad whenever that comes around?
and the FCC in the US is talking about requiring an ID to be able to activate a phone number
What does chat control being active in the EU mean for mullvad and its users?
So, from what I was able to gather, the EU parliament voted to slap chat control down...but somehow it's in effect anyway?...not sure how that works and the fact that a single organization can make that decision for dozens of countries is bad, obviously. The EU needs to be disbanded if this is the shit they're going to do
but back to my original question. Mullvad prides themselves on recording nothing. What happens if the EU decides they have to start recording what their users are doing?
Request: Mark EU locations with a new marker
I'm marking this as NSFW because of the subject matter
So why would this be necessary? because the EU is doing age verification even more aggressively than the UK and Australia. Reddit in particular is caving in even though they haven't been mandated to yet
Oh and...if you're a parent and you don't want your kids to see certain content online? That's on you. You shouldn't outsource your parenting to corporations and the government
parental controls have been built into desktops and laptops since at least windows 7, game consoles since at least the original Xbox and android phones since those existed in the first place. If you can't get those to work on your children's devices, put the controls on your router at home, if you can't manage that, just watch your kids when they're online
Major issue with syncing tab groups and container tabs
If I try to open tabs of a website inside of a specific container in any tab group, the same tab group on my other device won't be the same container tabs and I have to open duplicates to contain the same tabs in the tab group on the other device
It's not that big of a deal right now because I have the Onetab extension, but I want to use container tabs AND tab groups between my devices and I can't keep them organized since the new feature was created
Putting AmneziaWG directly into protonVPN as an obfuscation option
Yes yes, I know it's already possible to use protonVPN with AWG, what I'm suggesting is for Proton to integrate AmneziaWG into protonVPN under the "protocol" menu
maybe even have an option to use it with stealth mode inside of it if that's possible
Also, NymVPN just recently implemented a feature where you can manually use their stealth API connect before anything has been blocked already. It would be cool if I could use ProtonVPN's alternative routing even when it's not needed
Why would you need to do that if the regular way isn't blocked? Because Outlawing VPNs might not involve blocking them, it may only involve detecting the usage of a VPN and arresting anyone who's caught using one
