I know the Groans of the Britons occurred around 450AD, so Britain must have largely been governed in the manner of a Roman state at this point. Less than a century later though Gildas writes his diatribe against five British kings.

So I was curious… was the term “King” a title that was retroactively given to the warlords who filled the void after direct Roman rule ended? Were there always royal families from pre-Roman tribes in the background anyway? Or is there a period we can pinpoint where the warlords started to stylise themselves as “Kings” of new “Kingdoms”?

If the latter, who is the earliest known Romano-British King?

Wondered if this slice of Sophisti-Pop from the Land of Puddings might qualify? Was a big hit here, Ireland and Denmark but don’t think it dented the charts in the States.

Basically, it’s from the point of view of an aging one-hit wonder, trying to convince everyone/himself he’s still got it. To which end, he breaks into said one-hit wonder’s chorus for the song’s very own chorus.

I’ve noticed a lot of the speculation over the exceptional astrological activity this year has focused on politics and global conflicts. However, given yet another extreme heatwave is gearing up here in Europe at the same time the much-anticipated Mars-Uranus conjunction is taking place followed by the Jupiter-Pluto opposition I’m starting to wonder if there might also be a connection?

I’m not well-versed in applying astrology to changes in climate, other than the more acute bad transit=one-off storm kind of thing. Is there anything in the charts to support something more significant at play here? Is it possible some of the big changes many have speculated may be as much environmental as technological or political?

He might well be right about the inevitability of AI, however can’t help but feel disappointed with how blithe - or in this case positive - he is about the potential for mass unemployment.

Irrespective of whether it should be, I’m curious as to how and why Modern Astrologers decided Uranus should rule Aquarius. From what I’ve read, some astrologers initially proposed it should rule Virgo - so there was a bit more debate than simply thinking “it comes after Saturn”. Can anyone explain - or can point me to resources that go into - the reasoning and decision making that led to Virgo being rejected and Aquarius being chosen?

I recently got myself a couple of old Jes Goodwin sculpts and started to wonder if they might just work as unpainted display items. Or maybe a single coat of grey/silver with ink wash so they look like mini-statues? Maybe work up a complete collection of his Chaos Champions or something? Has anyone done this/thought of doing this?

Every time I hear this track, I’m just in awe of the fact Kate Bush and Prince produced a track together. The end result isn’t to everyone’s taste, but that’s probably not hugely surprising given the different worlds that are colliding here. And if that wasn’t enough, they then invite notable British Comedian and Actor Sir Lenny Henry to sing a verse!

What collabs strike you as the weirdest or least expected?

So… I’m playing Louen. I’ve united Bretonnia and across the water Avelorn’s been chipping away at Slaanesh until they’ve only got three settlements left. N’kari’s wandering round with half hit points and a stack of six for multiple rounds. Averlorn ask if I can help finish him off. So I send over a full stack, take Elisia off him… and this is where things go a bit crazy.

N’kari at this point has two settlements and Seducers are in the bottom five armies. As soon as I arrive, suddenly he starts pumping out full stack Lords with chariots, etc. One turn after I arrive there’s two of these out of nowhere. Next turn another THREE. By next turn N’Kari himself now has a full stack including another Keeper, seven full stack armies running around and somehow the Seducers have jumped from bottom of the pack to eighth strongest in the world!

I guess I want to know a) how in the Old World are they managing this given the state of affairs when I arrived and why didn’t they do this to Averlorn before I did? and b) are there any strategies for dealing with this kind of bonkers insta-spawning as a Bret?

Any suggestions for a special flavour of One Hit Wonder: the band who were touted as the Next Big Thing, had their big hit and then… oh dear..?
