Mississippi Moon

Playing and singing in 3/4 time might be the hardest thing Ive attempted in a while. It’s like learning how play and sing all over again lol

Peter Rowan is a wizard, I’ve been listening to him more than anything else the last few years. And been lucky enough to see him with Sam Grisman Project a handful of times and it was so moving.

3/2/91 has been my goto JGB version of this tune

Do y’all have a favorite?

Have you tried sampling a song?

I learned how to chop up a sample and map it to the keyboard in logic yesterday. Now that you can split stems on a track and just get the vocal part, it’s wayyyy easier. I spent about an hour making this. It’s cool using the samples because sometimes I’ll waste a couple hours just trying to record one guitar part or something and then just get frustrated/sick of listening to the same thing and abandon the whole song

Although I suppose I could never release anything with Willie’s voice on it or it would get nuked immediately.

Writing a song for my wedding

Going for a dancey jack johnson and paul
Simon kinda feel. Been messing with different drums sounds and vibes. I’m torn because I like it stripped down acoustic but I think it’ll serve the moment more if it’s upbeat.

Here is the second half i’m Working on Acoustically

Lyrics

I like my coffee in the morning and for me, that’s the afternoon

I like staying up real late, dancing by the light of the moon

I like the first few weeks of dating, just like a happy honeymoon

Baby I’m a cheap date, do whatever you wanna do

Maybe I’ve waiting this whole time
Cuz baby I’ve been searching my
Whole life
For someone just like you

You make me feel like I could be anything I see
You make me feel like I can do everything I dream

I like going out to parties meeting strangers on the street
I’ve been talking way too much
Won’t give you half a chance to speak

I like staying up till sunrise
Haven’t closed my eyes and weeks

I’ve been pickin up and moving
Drinking up this life so sweet

Love my Sheraton

Don’t be fooled by thumbnail, Here’s a clip of me shaking down shakedown street with a band of monsters with my ‘07 Korean made Sheraton in Nashville.

Pickups are 57 neck and an early Pearly Gates prototype I got from the Rev Billy F Gibbons.

Doug South Rippin leads on that sweet tele

Who are some current artists with Jimmy Buffet vibes?

I need newer beachy vibes artists in my life. I love stuff like Jack Johnson, and Ernest’s new beach country album. Who else fits the vibe?

Gild the Lilly has drums and absolutely nobody was upset

I love bluegrass and understand the traditional side etc but Billy as a jamgrass artist that deviated from bluegrass norms and made an arena show out of it, I always hoped at least part of the show would have drums.

Anytime I mentioned this I’d cause an uproar amongst hardcore goats. Everybody loved the halloween show when he had drums. And then (maybe billy’s best song yet) gild the lilly groove recording was absolutely held down by the drumming and all of those staunchly opposed to drums weren’t upset. Surprisingly I didn’t see a single person even mention it online.

Just a rough demo sketching out the bones of this tune. This is the first I’ve written in a while with an atypical structure, there is no second verse. Does the form work for you? Feedback on lyrics? Please overlook lack of drums and percussion that this tune needs.
