"Never Ask a Question You don't Know the Answer to."

This is one of the first few rules I read on the textbook on cross-examinations. I don't remember anymore the author and I don't have time to search for it again. Just posting it here as "the rule" that doesn't suit my idiosyncrasies.

A while ago, I just asked whatever question I felt asking, without thinking about the consequence. I just told myself that if the answer is not favorable to my client, I still have the freedom whether to transition to another topic or make a follow-up question (to test the truthfulness of the witness' answer).

My point here is, I should have the absolute freedom on what question to ask, how to frame it, when to do it, and so on and so forth.

Thus, when I prepare for cross-examinations, I don't write full questions. I only write the topics that my desired questions would revolve around. So I can ask WHATEVER QUESTION I wanted.

In the end, this method works way, way better for me, regardless of what answer I actually elicited, whether advantageous or just a little less impactful (but not necessarily damaging).

Today, I just ended another beautiful and satisfying cross-examination, thanks to myself for basically violating the number 1 rule on cross-examinations. XD

Fainting after reaching your destination?

I'm currently writing a novel about a woman who time-traveled to the past. In one of the chapters, she fainted after reaching another era. I wonder what kind of explanation I would give for that or what kind of medical condition would make that possible. This is pure science fiction btw.

Authentic Bicol Express: Bagoong vs Alamang vs Balaw

I included three different pictures of Bicol Express but all of them have something in common. This dish is my all-time fave when it comes to "taste." For me, it's the epitome of what it means to be "orgasmic."

So, about the title. Whenever I order this dish, the first thing I ask is if it is "authentic"? If the answer is "yes," I ask this clarificatory question ~ "does it have balaw?" If the wait person says "yes," he's certainly telling the truth! For me, there is only one way to cook Bicol Express right and that is to use BALAW! You will know the difference once you've tried different varieties. The only version that I would consider exceptional is the version with balaw.

Now, about the pictures. Yes, they all contain "balaw." If you are sojourning to Bicol and you're from other places, these versions I would really recommend for you to try. I believe that your trip to Bicol would not be enough if you don't try authentic Bicol Express!

Breather

I need to breathe. I still have a lot to do. It's only one case but it's certiorari with temporary restraining order so there's a lot to do especially since it involves a series of convoluted, complicated transactions. I need to write three affidavits because the previous lawyer did not include certain vital documents. I'm pressured but I'm already worn out.

Meron nang writ of execution. I need to speed up but my body is already giving up. I just took a few minutes of break time before diving back to work. I've never felt this way before. Nag-eenjoy ako. Litigation is like playing a game where you need to strategize here and there. And what gives it more prestige is that, there's a lot at stake here. You're literally a professional gamer if you're a lawyer and it's fun.

That's why I can't believe this is happening to me. I suddenly want a way out!

How does severance of causes of action take place?

The opposing counsel moved for the severance of causes of action, which we will oppose as this move could further delay the proceedings. But I'm not sure as this has never happened in my practice before...

Should I complete my emergency fund first before investing in MP2?

Hello everyone! I need advice for something :)

Currently, my emergency fund covers 3 months and a half of my average monthly income. If my current trajectory continues, my emergency fund would be complete by May/June next year.

However, I really want to invest in MP2 already because I feel like every month passing would be some lost opportunity cost.

What do you think should I do? Should I wait for next year or should I invest now?

Vigan vs. Tagaytay+Taal vs. Peñablanca vs. Bali

I like fancy architecture so for my next travel, I'm eyeing places known for their old houses or distinct architecture.

I wanna go to Vigan ever since I was a kid but my interest faded when I read people saying that Calle Crisologo seems a bit short.

Tagaytay is a lovely city with beautiful views of a lake and a volcano. Nearby is Taal, Batangas where so many old houses from the Spanish times remain standing.

Peñablanca has a series of cave systems with several waterfalls and a small church inside. Not too fancy architecture but caves with magnificent stalactites would be just as good.

Then Bali. I'm just throwing it there since many people say that international travels are now cheaper than domestic. We have nice, superb beaches here but I'm not interested in Bali for the waves and the sea. I just wanna see the shrines and the temples with distinct architectural styles.

Ikaw? What would you tell me? I personally wanna go to all of them but I'll be selecting only one. Personally, I've been to Tagaytay but Taal Batangas is my number 1 choice. My only apprehension is its proximity to Manila and I'm going with my friends from Manila. They might think it's not really a "real" travel since it's just 2 hours away.

A long sigh of relief after a financially-challenging month!

This afternoon, I already closed my books because tomorrow, I would be plotting a new set of plans for the future and will take a leave on Monday for a long weekend of 3 straight days (somewhat burnt out especially in the last two weeks).

I can breathe a long sigh of relief! This month has been financially challenging for me. I didn't get a new acceptance/engagement except for a small case during the first week.

And then, by the 20th, I had a surprise expenditure for my car! I paid more than 17k! I also paid for several expenses on that "manic" Monday and I only had 10 more days to catch up by that time!

Good thing, I had several cases last 23rd and two more earlier this morning. I accepted all appearances that my senior partner referred to me, and a client paid 15k just this afternoon!

In the end, I was still able to save a net income of 16k. It's a bit low compared to previous months but considering my surprise expenses last 20th the manic Monday, I'm totally relieved especially when considering that there was a time when my net income was -23k!

By August, I will enter a new chapter/phase of my financial life. I will start classifying my expenses and see which parts where I can still make some adjustments.

If you have any comments or feedbacks, let me know in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it... Thank you!

Though I didn't graduate from Big 4, I was able to get job offers within a month after passing the boards. AMA.

I thought about helping college grads and students to improve their chances of being accepted in the workforce.

I didn't graduate from the Big 4 but I landed a job within one month after passing the boards.

Audio Codal

My car needs repairs so I need to drive to a service center for 2 hours tomorrow (Monday). I can't visit on Saturdays since their appointments are fully booked.

So I decided to listen to audio codals while driving so that the time spent driving would still be productive in a way.

Do you have suggestions on what audio codals to listen to? I badly wanted to listen to Expedited Procedures but couldn't find any on youtube or spotify. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

How was your experience with ValuCare? Okay naman sila mag-reimburse ng expenses?

Planning to get this HMO. Very attracted ako sa kanila kasi meron silang office sa UST Hospital mismo kaya it just feels na the hospital is also vouching for its integrity and reliability. However, other than that, wala na akong alam.

Locally-Sourced Income of Daraga, Albay based on 2000 Prices

Daraga's locally-sourced income for 2025 reached more than P104 million adjusted to 2000 prices or P266 million based on current prices.

These are not official figures since the only official figures represent current prices. The 2000 constant prices are computed by multiplying the current prices by CPI of 2000 divided by CPI of 2025.

Meanwhile the CPIs of 2000 and 2025 were derived by compounding the inflation rates over the same 25-year period.

With the expected inflation rate of 6.4% for 2026, Daraga will be qualified for cityhood if it generates a locally-sourced income of P262 million or P4 million less than the amount it generated last year.

Outlast: The Jungle How the Winners Won

I guess that kayak was the main game-changer. It was used as a roof for Alpha's shelter. The Bravo team struggled during the final task because they didn't have a good sleep the night before.

This was Leiya's idea btw.

Graduates of Management Economics of ADMU, where are you now and when did you graduate?

Trying to see what's happening on a parallel universe...

In a myriad of universities I passed in 2004, ADMU was my first choice and Management Economics was the course I have chosen. However, I fell ill during summer that year and I was confined. Because of my health condition, we decided to enroll at a local university instead with BS Accountancy as a course. I was going to transfer to Ateneo on 2nd year but my grades weren't quite good so I put that plans off for another year. I canceled that plans altogether when I started enjoying Accountancy and after gaining many friends in my new school. I graduated and passed the CPA boards eventually.

My good performance made me competitive that year so I took UPLAE which I also passed. Fast forward to today, I am now a litigation lawyer in the province. I'm doing well and I'm enjoying my life. My finances are doing great as well...

But somehow, these past few days, so many questions lingered in my mind. What if I pursued my first choice? What if I graduated from ADMU with AB Management Economics as a course? What if I persevered with what I really wanted in the first place?

Lawyers with mental health disorder --- how are you coping with the lack of certainty on whether we are actually excluded from ULAS or not?

I'm a lawyer with bipolar disorder who unexpectedly thrives in the litigation profession. I'm so far okay. No major complaints except the need to wake up early for courtroom appearances. I'm ok with judges, I'm okay with clients, and I'm also ok with my boss.

I'm talking about ULAS here... but it's not really the problem. I'm ok with ULAS but I'm just not sure if my application for exclusion will be approved because I'm doing well in litigation and I have a decent batting average. The current workload is STILL manageable but adding 60 more hours for no pay is a bit of a stretch and I am not sure how it will affect my mental health so I would be applying for exclusion. The dilemma that keeps me overthinking is the lack of certainty on whether my application would be granted.

It's already June 2026 and there's only a year and a half left for compliance yet the portal's features for exclusion still do not exist. I already emailed the ULAS Help Desk but they simply told me to wait for these features to finally come out in the portal.

To the lawyers with mental health disorder, what are you doing? Have you started complying with ULAS (just in case your application will be disapproved) or are you just going to wait for the ULAS features on exclusions to finally exist?

I will be deleting this thread in five days. Thank you all.

Albayanos, are you in favor of Legazpi’s HUC conversion?

Apparently, Legazpi is also qualified for HUC conversion as the only requirements are 200,000 population and ₱50M locally-sourced revenues for 2 consecutive years based on 1991 prices.

What will happen with the HUC conversion?

  1. Independence from mother province. Ordinances will now be reviewed by the Office of the President, instead of the Provincial Govt

  2. Revenues will no longer be shared with the province

  3. Residents can no longer vote for governor and can no longer run for provincial positions anymore.

Personally, Im okay with this, as long as coordination with the province and neighboring municipalities are sustained.
