Looking for a romantic book that feels like a warm hug

Looking for adult characters (not teenagers or young adults, unless they grow up and spend a significant portion of the book as adults).

No large age gaps. Seriously. Not even of the vampire/ fay variety unless *both* characters are over 100 years old.

Can be technically a romance or not, as long as there's a strong romantic subplot.

Any gender combination but if they're not straight, I don't want them to be a straight coded queer couple. (I.e. no men who are basically "the woman" or women who are "the guy" in the relationship).

Well written, obviously. Something that will evoke emotion. And that relies on the old adage of "show, don't tell".

Thanks.

Books about men overcoming past trauma

Can be any sort of trauma.

Romance can be involved, but I'd prefer to stay away from the "love of a woman fixes him" trope.

Something more realistic.

Well written with good characters.

Thanks

Question about Logan's portrayal

I'm kind of confused as to why he's considered such a good friend.

I mean he's fine... But also, he comes off quite self centered, at least in the show.

There's obviously more than meets the eye with Garrett's relationship with his father - yet he dismisses it. He does the same with Dean and Donovan, BTW.

Fair enough - he has his own issues and agenda. He's a decent enough guy but not more than that. But that's the point, a good friend would, at least some of the time, put his friends above himself.

Is it different in the book or something?

Or are we just supposed to assume that he's a good friend as a given - without any actual evidence?

*As a side note, I feel the show would have actually benefitted from showing the conversation between Logan and Garrett, about Garrett's dad. If it was done well.

Looking for books that have parallel romances

Preferably of family members (I.e. both the parent and child get a love interest and romantic arc).
Doesn't have to be romance - but can be.
No horror.
Can be parent/ child, siblings, or even childhood friends.

I'm less looking for crossovers with the past (i.e. granddaughter has a romance, and we learn about grandma's romance 50 years ago). But rather, they should both be happening at the same time.

Should I read The Long Game?

I keep going back and forth on this.

I really like the show - but I tend not to like Romance books.

I like the fact that the show insinuates things/ the emotional distance the show creates (is forced to create really).

I tend to dislike being in the character's head - because I usually find it makes the characters less interesting and more cookie cutter.

On the other hand, I really want to know what happens, and I want more of the characters. And waiting until season 2 seems like a long wait...

Thoughts? Will the books add or take away?

Those of you who like Bones but don't like similar shows, why?

Like, what makes Bones unique/ superior for you personally

Compared to the mentalist, Castle, etc.?

For the record, I do like some of those shows a bit - but Bones is definitely my favorite and I'm trying to pinpoint why? Because it might help me figure out what other shows I will like.

How do you exercise enough and still have time for work and life?

I'm in my early 40s, have a full time job and kids.

And I exercise 3-4 times a week for an hour. But everything I see says I need to do all these different types of exercises to protect and preserve different parts of my body:

Aerobics for heart, core strength, general muscles for bone density, upper and lower body strength, agility, flexibility...

I'm not naturally athletic and it's always taken my body ages to make any gains.

And if I add up all the different types of exercises I need to do, it just seems... Impossible, timewise. Also, the exercises I love - like swimming, well - they only focus on one aspect.

How does anybody do this?

Books written from a dog or cat's perspective

Looking for adult books written from the dog or cat's perspective.

Well written, with well developed plot and characters.

Preferably not just family dramas (aka Marley and me) but something more complex

Are the toilet bidets actually hygienic, especially for women?

I'm a fan of bidets but don't have the option for something separate.

A hose just gets everything wet.

The underwear toilet bidets seem ideal, but I'm kinda worried about splashback/ the mechanism getting dirty. Especially since bowel movements aren't always... Neat. (Regardless of diet, because periods and certain underlying conditions)

Any insights?

I don't get the appeal of Zack

I don't dislike him, but I honestly found the rotating squinterns more interesting overall.

I just found Zack... Kinda boring most of the time.

But people seem to love the character, so I keep wondering if I'm missing something....

Just started a rewatch - episode 1

Homeland security was absolutely right to stop her.

WTF?

The TSA confiscated a toy wooden sword from my little brother. You can absolutely not fly with a human skull. She should have been arrested.

And why would she even do that? She works for a prestigious institution. Why not declare it and ship it properly?

It feels ridiculous and doesn't even contribute to the plot.

I really wish they had done an alternate history episode

Like one where Brennan's parents took her on the run and she became a criminal, ander Booth that way.

And honestly, I love alternate history episodes.

Anyone ever come across a good fanfic like that and can point me in the direction?

If someone steals your identity and uses it to buy property, does that property belong to you?

After they get caught, assuming they used their own money (possibly fraudulently obtained) but the property is legal at this point.

Who does the property belong to?

Please suggest a book that is completely satisfying.

By which I mean, lives up to its full potential, story wraps in a satisfying way, none of the characters do inexplicable stupid things (explicable stupidity/ stupidity that makes sense for the character is fine), etc.

Basically something that when you put it down felt like a completely satisfying meal.

Not horror, but any other genre is ok.

Would it be immoral to get into a holistic healing profession (such as acupuncture or reflexology or even numerology) even though you don't believe in it - just because you know others do? If you're charging reasonable rates?

How can you tell the difference between suicidal ideation and intrusive thoughts?

For instance, if someone tells you they keep imagining deliberately crashing their car or walking into traffic?

Looking for books like Sophie's World about other subjects

Primarily, non Western philosophy (Chinese, Muslim, etc.)

But also open to similar books that address different periods in history, or myths/ religion, or different sciences.

What I mean is a fictional book that provides a good introduction to a non fiction subject, but still has a good plot. It doesn't have to be YA, though it does have to be highly readable.

Ideas?

Why are doctors more likely to diagnose you with an atypical presentation of something common, than another rare condition?

Here's an example:

Panic attacks typically last a few minutes at most and involve shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

This is the way it typically appears. Other forms range from uncommon to rare.

I have a friend who has nausea (including vomiting) episodes that last for hours.

And she was diagnosed as having panic attacks - after not much searching. (She does have an ideopathic ulcer, but this was ruled a result rather than cause).

Why?

I mean, presumably - an atypical presentation isn't necessarily more common than an unusual disease. Both are rare.

And yet doctors seem to default to the first.
