Astral Plane Sphere

Hi all. I’m looking for a mod/cheat that would allow me to use the Astral Plane Sphere (if you didn’t know it’s really a somewhat “physical” sphere inside a game’s location). I need that HDRI to make some screenshots. And while I know I can just use the needed location while proceeding with the plot, there are some objects (stones and this whole skeleton or something) that ruin everything.

So I’m literally looking for a way to use that Astral Plane Sphere but WITHOUT any objects in it.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Do faerunian surnames follow the historical tradition?

Hi all. We know that some surnames change over time (if, for example, a clerk misheard a surname when writing it), but it’s a pattern seen in European history (in history of any region/country really).

Does this apply to Faerunian practice? For example there is a surname “Whitethorne” (which is a real English surname btw), would it be somehow changed to something like “Wythorne” over time/because of a mistake? Are clerks/officials literate enough?

Sorry for my clumsy English

Am I cooked?

I really wanted to play Baldur’s Gate 1 (enhanced edition trilogy with some QoL mods, nothing more) and I even completed Nashkel mines but… I decided it’s not interesting to me. Not that the story is not interesting, just this type of gameplay, whole lot of unfinished side-quests (kill that, bring this) etc. And I want to say I completed Fallout 2 just 5 years ago, so it’s not really about the age of the game, it’s more about this inconsistency or I don’t know.

Is it my own experience or some of you have the same feelings?

Scepter of Karsus

Hi there. I’ve played BG3 two times, and almost everything seems pretty understandable to me, but there is one thing that makes me wonder.

The book “The Annals of Karsus” which is located in the hidden vault under the Ramazith’s Tower tells us about the three pieces of Karsus’ Regalia. The first one is the Crown (which is atop the Netherbrain), the second one is the Orb (which is supposed to be a magical battery but in reality exists as the only existing fragment of the Karsite Weave, and is located in Gale’s chest) and the third one is the Scepter (which location is not known).

So the item doesn’t exist in the game, but some part of me thinks it could’ve been added in a DLC (if there were any) or it had been removed (just like many other things as well). One thing is almost certain - if two pieces are “in motion”, then the third one should’ve been too.

So who is the most probable person to have the Scepter?

I’m 99% sure it’s **Raphael**.

Now hear me out.

  1. He’s a well known collector of all things Netherese (Helsik says “His House of Hope is furnished with a great deal of treasures, many related to Karsus. But alas, he lacks the crown itself”). So, there are many things related to Karsus in Raphael’s collection.

  2. House of Hope’s Archivist makes reference to a certain rod held in the collection (“one that gathers the Weave around it in great quantities”). It’s definitely not the Staff of Spellpower which is an obtainable item and can be found in a secret room right next to Mol’s contract. Why? Because rods (just like sceptres) are much shorter than staffs. So, there is a “rod” in Raphael’s collection.

  3. In certain endings of the game, Raphael gets his hands on the Crown and then moves against Asmodeus with apparent confidence. I think that confidence would be **really** difficult to justify if the Crown alone were his only advantage. Raphael also reports that conquering the Hells is going pretty well for him, as several Archdevils have already offered peace and tribute without being compelled to. I don’t think they would do such thing to a peer wielding a single artifact (the Crown), however powerful. They capitulate if the resistance is hopeless. That makes me think Raphael wields not only the Crown, but the Scepter as well.

  4. Additionally, there’s a cutscene from the game’s early development (now removed from the game, but can be found on YouTube) that shows Raphael expressing interest in Gale’s Orb. He most likely offers its removal in exchange for Gale’s cooperation. It makes me think Raphael understood that the orb in Gale’s chest was a single existing fragment of the Karsite Weave, quite literally being the “insides” of the Orb of Karsus (which is supposed to be some sort of a magical battery. But what matters most is not the shell - it’s the energy **in it**). So, Raphael was ready to negotiate around it because he understood the full scope of the Regalia.

So my point is that Raphael hid the Scepter somewhere in his House of Hope (or maybe in a more guarded place).

I know that the Scepter’s location is not confirmed anywhere, but the evidences are pretty clear.

Let me know what you think.

Metaphysical reincarnation?

Hi. I’ve been thinking about the backstory of my BG3 character who is supposed to be Karsus’ metaphysical reincarnation. Now hear me out. What if, let’s say, Mystra discovers that the Regalia of Karsus are getting in motion pretty soon (she is able to foresee future events that are somehow connected to the Weave, right?) and, knowing the danger they pose in wrong hands, she decides to take Karsus’ soul (or what remains of it, be it his soul/entity/imprint etc) from the Material Plane (he’s never been claimed by any god) and “seal” the bad traits, such as ambitions and hubris while implanting a new trait of being “antitheistic” (so he won’t repeat his mistake).

But why would she do this? To be short, she wants to use him (them?) to bring the full Regalia back so no one can use them for bad purposes. And who would be the best candidate to bring them if not the one who created them?

BUT Mystra doesn’t “reincarnate” Karsus himself, she finds a “vessel” to implant Karsus’ imprint. What’s the vessel? It’s supposed to be a person with a “broken” (not full) soul. It’s a human male of 17 years who was born with an incomplete soul.

After implanting the Karsus’ imprint, the character slowly regains his full identity, becomes “complete”. It can be associated with the Japanese art of Kintsugi (which is repairing broken pottery with parts from other pieces).

So, what’s your opinion on that? Would be glad to hear what you think and to answer further questions

P.S. sorry for my clumsy English, it’s not my first language

Ultimate fantasy setting?

What do you like about the setting of Forgotten Realms? What do you think is the most important and/or interesting in-universe feature? Is Forgotten Realms a truly ultimate (and perhaps the most detailed) fantasy setting there’s ever been?

What’s the fucking THAC0???

I recently started playing Baldur’s gate 1 and… I get it, we all love some Mexican food like taco or burrito, but I don’t FUCKING understand what’s the point of it being in a game about some fantasy dragon killing computer game?? Like wtf actually? Can’t we just have some normal stats?!

Deepest secrets

What are some of the deepest lore secrets/facts that you know?

For example, I was really surprised to find out that Volo is some kind of a Weave anchor of Mystra and that’s why he is immortal.

Three Alternatives

Hi. Recently I got my hands on the Infinity Engine games (Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate 1 with all the dlcs, Baldur’s Gate 2 with all the dlcs, IWD 1, IWD 2) cause I wanted to try them out after finishing my second playthrough of BG3. I started with Planescape but quickly understood that these games are just not for me (maybe BG3 just spoiled me or something). BUT I’d still like to know the lore behind these games. After a few searches I found out that there are official novels, but they are a complete and utter “mess” to say the least.

So my question is essentially this: are there any unofficial novels (or just straight up texts or something) worth reading to understand what all these games were about? I know for sure that there IS an unofficial “novel” for Planescape. Do other games have something like it as well?

Sorry for my messy English :)

Hi. I’d like to start reading some books within forgotten realms lore. People have been recommending starting with Drizzt, but, honestly, I don’t really think it’s a great starting point as it looks like the whole story is literally happening in Underdark within a drow society full of schemes and murders etc. I’d like the most classic epic fantasy story that would instantly hook me. Any thoughts?

It would also be great if the recommended book(s) was in a more or less simple English as I found the beginning of “Homeland” to be a bit too difficult for my non-English-speaking ass

Hi. I’m finishing BG3 tomorrow, but there is one character whose ending I’m not really sure about. The thing is.. I fked up Will’s heroic ending (he’s decided to become the grand duke or whatever), and yes, I know that both heroic and political endings are good, but still.. he won’t come to help Karlach in Avernus. And I’m in romance with Shadowheart so I’m not going to help her either. BUT she can still become an illithid to help save the world.

So the question is this. Will she remain herself? Will she have her own soul?

Jergal told us that illithids don’t have souls. But the thing is.. he clearly added the word “apostolic” to the “souls” meaning that illithids still have souls, just not the ones faerunian gods could lay their hands on. Wouldn’t it be better to let her become an illithid rather than let her die?

I have one more thing in my mind. We know that some entities (like liches, certain zombies or whatever) retain their souls even if their bodies (specifically brains) are literally dead. Would it mean that illithids (who are known to “replace” their hosts in the process of ceremorphosis) do the same thing? So, basically, even if the original brain (and its consciousness, whatever that may be) was “consumed” by the tadpole, wouldn’t it mean that there’s still the original soul somewhere around?

P.S. Sorry for my clumsy English!

Two questions

Hello. I’m crafting a story about my character in BG3, which consists of the backstory and the meta-finale (what happened after the ending). Everything seems absolutely lore-consistent and interesting (for me at least), but still there are some areas I’d like to explore further.

So the questions are:

  1. Did Mystra know of Dead Three/Elder Brain plot to use Crown of Karsus BEFORE the game’s story started? If so, how many years could have passed right after she knows about it? So, basically, she can foresee the future (in her own way, as I understand), but she’s not omniscient. Still, she could easily see when this whole plot begins, but WHEN?

  2. This whole thing about Mystra knowing something was going on with the Crown of Karsus could possibly lead her to create a new “agent” of her will (not an avatar) that would bring the crown to her. Let’s say this agent is now something like 17-25 years old and studies magic in an academy. How old would he really be, considering the first question?
