National vs International Burger Awards

So we have Galaxy Burger, recently crowned the best burger in Canada. BUT - we also sort of have Fat Rabbit over in St Kitts, the ONLY Canadian establishment on the "101 Best Burgers in the World:" list (worth noting: the "Best in the World:" folks at Upper Cut only rank restaurants, not trucks or pop-ups).

I've been to Galaxy Burger, and it's been two thumbs up every time. I've NOT been to to Fat Rabbit, so I'm curious ... has anyone in our brave little sub been to both? Can you drop a comparison?

Additionally, has anyone been to Fat Rabbit pop-ups? Curious what kind of a menu they bring on the road and what it's like.

THANKS!

Wig-Wag Crossing Signals

When was the last decade that wig-wag crossing signals were in use in North America? Kind of fascinated by the things but I don’t think they persisted until the 70s. Am I wrong?

And yes, my layout period is mid- to late-70s.

Looking for Pepperidge Farm cookies - specifically Chessmen Cookies

I know I’ve seen Pepperidge Farm cookies in town, but I’ll be damned if I can remember where. So - any ideas? I specifically need the “Chessmen” variety.

Lunch Menus At Nicer Restaurants

Lunch menus seem to have become a thing of the past. Are there any "nicer" restaurants - independent ones, NOT chains - in Hamilton that still have a nice lunch menu?

In Hamilton, please - not Burlington or Oakville or Mississauga or Toronto (not my first rodeo on reddit haha).

Source for falernum?

Does anyone know if there is any place in the city to buy a bottle of falernum? Usually I make it myself but I am in a time pinch and don’t have time to properly let it mellow.

I believe cocktail Emporium closed up their Hamilton location, so I’m at a loss. I’ve seen other random cocktail ingredients and syrups at both Fortino’s and Metro, but never once have I seen falernum. Ideas? Concrete leads? Anything?

Changing Of The Guard

The end of an era - my beloved Z5 started to act up two weeks ago, and all signs pointed to electrical systems failure. Unfortunately, parts are now extremely hard to come by Jura Canada informed me that there was probably no way to service the machine. Fortunately my local dealer was willing to extend their June sale for a long-time customer, and after 20+ years of service I said goodbye to my faithful companion and brought home a shiny new toy. Besides the June sale, they also game me a few hundred bucks worth of goodies in trade for my old machine, so it was definitely win win.

The Z10 era begins!

Rudy Burger coming to Hamilton.

Noticed a new sign today at the Golf Town plaza at Stonechurch and Golf Links - Rudy Burger is coming.

I have no idea if the product is still as stellar as when they originally hit the Toronto scene, but if it’s anywhere close this is a welcome addition to the city’s meat-in-a-bun scene.

Fingers crossed for an eat-in space.

Is anyone else suddenly unable to turn OFF their wipers?

Background: I always leave the wipers on the rain sensing/automatic setting. It’s worked very well for me since getting the car, never a problem. Until this past weekend…

Was going to take the car through the local touch-free wash, there was a lot of rain and road dirt residue that I wanted to knock off. Before I got into the queue, I went through the usual pre-wash routine of turning off the auto-hold brake, checking the widows for all-up, checking the sun-roof, turning the wipers to “OFF” … and fail.

Flipping the stalk to “OFF” simply turn the wipers on. Regular speed, no intermittent, just on. Put the stalk back to auto, the wipers went off, pushed it back to off and… Full wiper action.

Went through the Vehicle settings, turned off the rain sensing, and no change. The OFF setting simply turn the wipers on. Turn the car off, went into the store for a cold drink, enjoyed cold drink, got back in the car turned it on… Same thing. Regardless of whether the rain sensing is on or not, flipping the stalk to the off position turns the wipers on regular speed. The other three positions… Intermittent/automatic, regular, high, all work as advertised. It’s just the off that no longer works. The “ wiper guidance” screen that appears on the dash confirms it is in the off position.

Because I generally leave the wipers in the automatic and rain sensing settings, except for situations like this, I have no idea how long this has been in effect. Has anyone else seen this behavior??

What’s going on with this “TV” broadcast?

I’m watching tonight’s game - June 24, Skubal vs Weathers - and the television broadcast has the radio audio feed. What happened to the TV crew? What’s going on?

The bug in the corner of the screen says this is a bet 365 feed (I’m watching in Canada via Sportsnet+) but the audio is definitely the “Detroit Tigers radio network“, commercials and liners and all. Is this what it’s come to, a single broadcast for both media? Or am I missing something?

Source For Boba Pearls?

Does anyone know of a source for bobo pearls in Hamilton? Frozen is fine, but containers of fresh preferred.

NOTE: not looking for a full drink kit, JUST the pearls. Preferably in a selection of flavours.

Exploring ingredients for an unwilling-yet-necessary NA summer - Lapsang Souchong

Has anyone played with Lapsang Souchong as an ingredient? Im thinking the peaty/smoky/tannin might translate to blends where you would traditionally turn to a whiskey to get that vibe. Plus it's my favourite afternoon tea choice so I already have it in stock.

I've got a SMALL repertoire of NA concoctions under my belt, but I feel like i need to lean into this a build a veritable arsenal for my enforced dry summer.

Kato seems to lack detail in their set descriptions on their web site - at least the English version. Literally every “description” and “specification” entry is the same chunk of boilerplate.

So - I’ll toss out the question : does the V3 “yard switching” set give you enough track BEYOND the required turnouts to set up a stand-alone basic Inglenook? Or would one have to pickup an extra pack of straight track to made the sidings the required length?

Alternatively, does someone have an actual “what’s in the box” listing for both the V3 and v4 sets?
Thanks!
