Lewis Hamilton stuns everyone with pole faster than both Ferraris and his own teammate. 2007 Chinese Grand Prix

Going into the penultimate round, Hamilton led the championship by 12 points. Despite Räikkönen setting the pace in all three practice sessions and both Q1 and Q2, Hamilton found something extraordinary in Q3 to take pole - 1.5 tenths ahead of Räikkönen, 4 tenths ahead of Massa, and 6 tenths clear of Alonso. The gap to his teammate left the paddock stunned. In the race, McLaren kept Hamilton out too long on worn intermediates - his tyres were down to the carcass by the time they called him in, and he beached the car in the gravel at pit entry. First retirement of his career, and it ultimately cost him the 2007 championship by a single point. The 2007 McLaren season had no shortage of drama
