I’m 21 years old, and I honestly feel like I’m reaching my limit. My mom passed away years ago, so it’s just me, my dad, and my 12-year-old sibling. My dad drinks a lot. I don’t mind if someone drinks occasionally, but when he gets drunk, he becomes a completely different person. He says the most hurtful things, loses control, and sometimes can’t even walk properly. Tonight was another one of those nights.

I’m exhausted.

I barely sleep anymore. For the past few months, I’ve
been falling asleep around 2–3 AM almost every night because I’m constantly stressed and anxious.

Financially, we’re struggling too, so I spend a lot of my time looking for side hustles or ways to earn money while trying to finish college.

Tonight, I finally snapped. I got so overwhelmed that I yelled at him because he wouldn’t settle down. Now I’m scared he’ll kick me out tomorrow.

I feel guilty for losing my temper, but at the same time, I don’t know how much more I can take. It feels like I’m carrying responsibilities that are too heavy for someone my age.

Earlier tonight, I even caught myself thinking that maybe if I disappeared, things would finally change. I don’t have any plan to hurt myself, but the thought scared me because I’ve never felt this emotionally exhausted before.

I don’t really know why I’m posting this. I guess I just want someone to tell me what they would do if they were in my situation. If you’ve grown up with an alcoholic parent, how did you survive it? How do you protect yourself and your younger sibling without completely losing yourself?

Hi everyone. I never thought I’d be making a post like this because I really hate asking people for money, but I’m in a difficult situation right now and I honestly don’t know what else to do.

I’m a college student, and things at home have become really hard. My family situation is complicated, and there are days when I’m left with very little money for food. Right now, I don’t even have enough for groceries, and I’m genuinely hungry.

I’ve been trying my best not to ask anyone for help. I’ve been using money-making apps like AttaPoll, Surveyon, Prime Opinion, and JustPlay to earn something on my own, but I keep getting disqualified from surveys, so I haven’t been able to make enough to buy food or groceries.

Problem/Goal:
I’m looking for advice on how to cope with this situation and what practical steps I should take while I’m still financially dependent on my father.

Context:
I’m 21F and about to enter my 4th year of college. My mom passed away years ago. My father (39M) is a tricycle driver, and my stepmother (40sF) works abroad.

I recently discovered that my father is having an affair with a married woman (40sF) who lives in our compound. I accidentally saw their Messenger conversations.

The woman has been asking my father for money because her child supposedly needs surgery, and she’s encouraging him to borrow money from other people so he can give it to her. My father seems willing to do it.
What hurts is that when my siblings or I ask him for money for school or basic necessities, he gets angry, curses at us, and tells us we ask for too much. But when it comes to this woman, he’s willing to go into debt.

I’m still in college and financially dependent on him, so I feel trapped. This has been affecting my mental health, and I don’t know how to navigate living in the same house while knowing all of this.

Previous Attempts:
I haven’t confronted my father because he usually reacts with anger. I’ve been keeping this to myself while trying to focus on school, but it’s becoming emotionally exhausting.

Question:
For anyone who has experienced a parent having an affair or growing up in a similar household, how did you protect your own mental health and finances while you were still dependent on that parent? What practical steps helped you get through it without making your own situation worse?
