Do y'all prefer free or paid alternatives?

I know normally the answer would be obvious but since TV Time died cause of a lack in its ability to be monetized I personally only want paid options. I'd also look into FOSS options with an active development community that's been active for at least a year. Though just free, no ads and closed source? Wouldn't consider it unless they had a lot of donations.

How I see it is there's no incentive to stay open. It's a hobby and if they get busy or bored they'll drop it. At least if it's paying their bills the likelihood of that happening is lower.

We all know how hard it is to switch apps that's why I'm committing to one early that I think will be around for the long haul since I do not want to risk this happening again for a long while. Though I'm curious on what yall think. I know a lot of people expect free cause that's what TVTime was. Am I in the minority here?

Has anyone ever damaged their door frame using door anchors?

I have wooden doors in my apartment I'm pretty sure are the hollow frame ones. So not metal or solid wood. I'm worried it'd break though looking it up I haven't yet seen anyone who's personally broken a door though perhaps it just wasn't posted. Does anyone using a door anchor on cheap doors have any experiences to share about using them? Have they given you any problems?

Discussions should be brought back

As another refugee from TVTime, something I'll miss is the casual discussions that aren't structured as reviews. Theories, jokes, memes and the like is fun. I saw this was a section before separate from reviews which is great so you can have serious reviews of the show and if you like, casual discussions as well.

This should be brought back. With the possibility of adding images in the future if it wouldn't cause issues with storage or the speed of the app. I think this is best of both worlds. People who like the Letterboxd feel never have to go into Discussions if they don't want. There'd also be an outlet for people who post jokes and episode quotes as reviews so perhaps that will be less common in reviews and make the Letterboxd people happy.

Then TVTime people have an outlet for our non-review discussions of the show. I've heard it wasn't super popular before. Given time with the migration, I think that might change. Especially for new shows where there can be discussion early on. I think it can also help prevent any big changes to reviews with people using it for non-review comments and annoying those who go there for reviews.

What's more useful as a current undergrad: coursework on diverse topics or a minor in GIS?

I'm a co-op student and I'd like to do ecological research, preferably with the Canadian government, in the future. I enjoy GIS, but ideally don't want to take positions that are only GIS.

I'm planning my courses right now and the choices are between several GIS courses so I can get my minor in GIS or a diverse selection of courses I'll be min-maxing to get experience in things that jobs have been asking for but I have no experience in. This includes remediation, policy, impact assessments and environmental planning. These courses all have useful projects I can put on my resume for student jobs. The past two jobs I got I was hired based off of my projects that I put on my resume. So I know that student jobs, where I am at least, do care about this. I'm aware they won't matter after I graduate.

I currently have a lot of GIS experience. The job I've been working the past year has had me using a lot of ArcGIS and doing spatial analysis. I also have several GIS projects I can put on my resume. Regardless of what I choose I will be taking an upper level GIS course that will teach more advanced spatial analysis.

Basically the question is how important a GIS minor is in the grand scheme of things. If I do these other courses I have a better shot than I currently do of getting interviews for positions in things I currently don't have skills for. Though it's of course not a guarantee. If a GIS minor isn't that important after I graduate then this is a worthy risk IMO. But if a GIS minor is very important than I'd prefer not to take this risk.

What do you prefer more for book covers?

I wanna know if as an author people care about how covers are made.

For authors with little artistic skill, their options are AI, poor photoshop and bad drawings since most for inkitt aren't gonna spend money on commissioning an artist.

Trackers with French and English Dual Audio stuff with subtitles?

I'm looking to learn French. Most Big Netflix shows have multiple audio languages but usually rippers will only download the native language and English.

Are there any French trackers that have both the French version and English version? Preferably with subtitles? Or trackers that include all audio tracks?

Heads up for Canadians: The price for the controller does include tax but not Import fees

Just so you can budget for it. I didn't expect it to include tax so the controller was actually cheaper than I expected. I'm very pleasantly surprised about this. Wish they had factories in Canada though to avoid the fees.

Anyone know if refunding the steam controller takes you off of the waiting list?

Just purchased my controller, but the PayPal purchase was automatic so pulled from the wrong account. I wanted to put this on my credit card so I can pay for it after I get paid. I don't know whether refunding will remove me from the wait list though. I'd like to refund them immediately purchase again with the correct payment method. Has anyone tried this?

Who do you think is included in the vote and what di you usually vote for?

One thing that seems to separate the camps and even change people's responses is who exactly is a part of the vote. I've seen more blue voters lean towards every single person including babies while red voters leaning towards rational actors or people who can make a choice. I've seen 3 camps:

  1. Every single person presses the button regardless of their ability to understand the question. This includes babies and severely intellectually disabled people.

  2. Every person capable of understanding the question presses the button. This includes young children and intellectually disabled people with the capacity to understand what the question means and what would happen if each button is pushed.

  3. Only rational actors are pushing the button. This excludes children and many intellectually disabled people. Only people capable of making consistent rational decisions are included.

I hope I represented all sides correctly.

People getting upset at a sample size for being too small when it's statistically large enough for the population it's studying

Specifically the people who l know nothing about statistics or how a sample size works. You don't need to sample the entire population to get accurate results. Yes that 800 sample size population can represent a population of around 3 million with a 3% margin of error.

There are valid reasons to criticize methodology, but in most cases I see the sample size is not it.

Which of these WYR permanently remove from existence?

Whichever you select, any physical or digital manifestations of it are removed from existence and they cannot be intentionally created, experienced or performed again. Everyone still remembers them however.

For competitive sports that means no more professional leagues, local casual games, or athletic competitions of any kind. You can still run to get places but would be physically incapable of racing someone intentionally for example.

For books, only books written for the sole purpose of divulging information with entertainment value not being a large factor stay. So non-fiction books like The Selfish Gene would also disappear as would textbooks where a lot of thought and effort was put into the reader enjoying reading the book.

Entertaining Videos include any video whose purpose is to entertain. So most YouTube videos, TikToks, Reddit videos etc. Purely informational videos like dry lectures and tutorials would stay.

For example, visual art and music, people can no longer sing, all paintings, sculptures, CDs, instruments, etc. disappear

Tabletop games includes card games, TTRPGs, board games and war games.

WYR have your perfect life in all the areas money can't buy or $10 billion USD tax free that everyone knows you have?

If you choose the perfect life, everything possible you want to happen in ways that couldn't be gotten with money will happen to you. For example relationships. You'll find the perfect person for you and they'll stay with you forever. Your family members you love will remain in perfect health and live to an old age. You have a solid group of friends that has time for you and have similar interests. If your dream job is one that couldn't be gotten through bribery and nepotism you get it. You will never have any health issues and live a long life. If you find your dream job you won't be fired from it. You no longer doubt yourself and are perfectly confident.

These are all examples and may not apply to you depending on what constitutes your perfect life.

Essentially if there's something that money cannot 100% buy related to you or the circle of people you know then you can get it. Yes world class healthcare can extend life but it can't guarantee health so that counts. But enough money can buy you plastic surgery to make you attractive so that wouldn't fall under something money can't buy.

The $10 billion is a lump sum given now and is tax free. You won it in a lottery that was announced nationally and has become international news.
