Standing vs sitting

Has anyone noticed a difference between the two? I don't mean in terms of balance, but does something like shoulder presses feel easier to do if you're sitting?

By the way, after a week of consistent workouts, I'm just about at the point of graduating up from the green band (25-65lb) to the blue band (35-85lb.)

Is there any person/youtubers out there that have purely built muscle using resistance bands?

Last night, I came across a video by ATHLEAN-X where there was a clip of Sylvester Stallone saying that, due to his long-term work with weights, his joints had started causing him problems. Because of that, he now trains with resistance bands, and he says they can be just as tough as weightlifting.

I am not old as Stallone is but often times I feel my joints and muscles ache and the gym near me is relocating. I have been thinking about if I should switch to resistance bands for building muscle now.

I am lean, been weightlifting for about 2-3 years. Mid 30s. Do mostly free weights as machines in my gym don't work or the machines for the exercise I want to do is not there.

PS. I want to the see the progress if it is actually possible or not. And does training with the bands may introduce muscle imbalance?

Left: June 30 2024 135lbs | Right: May 19 2026 155lbs | Band training exclusively. 40 years old.

There’s still a long ways to go with dialing in diet. Thank you to everyone who’s provided helpful advice and suggestions.

Advice Needed!!!

I'm a 17 year old teenager getting into resistance band workout. I workout 1 hour 30 mins DAILY. 30 minutes is spent on breaks and 1 hour is the actual workout. My question is that I always go in a random order with my workouts. I don't have a specific amount of sets or reps I do. I do each and every workout till failure to the point my body just can't do more. Pretty much I train each muscle in a random order till failure. Like I'll train biceps then go to chest exercises then shoulder then maybe back to biceps, later to triceps etc etc. Then i take a short 3-5 mins break to cooldown and hydrate. Then rinse and repeat. Currently i'm only working on my upper body and nothing on my lower body as I want to grow my chests, shoulders, biceps, triceps, back, core and forearms mainly. Point is I want to ask if this is effective to gain muscle fairly quickly and safely. Should I follow a specific order or should I keep going as Im going right now. It's been 4 days since I started and I only got really sore on the second day of workout, after that it has been fine. (I have not been getting sore even though i've been pushing myself to my limits). I would appreciate if someone could give me valuable advice that I will try my best to follow if Im doing something wrong. That's pretty much all.

Thanks in advance!

One week anniversary

To celebrate my first week of being consistent, I decided to work out until muscle failure.

I'm typing with my nose right now.... 😉

Tribe lifting bands

Can anyone comment on this brand?

I saw them on Amazon at a good price.

They're supposedly made of layered latex and the strongest band in the kit goes up to 170lbs of resistance.

The bundle with bar looks like a good deal too. But I haven't seen them mentioned anywhere so far.

Any review?

Favorite programs?

In the summer I only use resistance bands and bodyweight to workout. Last two summers I did my own thing, but I'd like to follow a program this summer for the fun of it.

Athleanx has his Elast-X program, but his stuff is often a bit overcomplicated (but novel at least) and expensive ($90). I have some of his other programs, but I'm not sure I'm interested in this one from him.

Not sure who else out there has a good program.

ALTERNATIVELY
If there's an excel sheet or website or something with a database of different band exercises I'll take it. Really I just need some new ideas and inspiration.

Free Resistance Band Workout App (Feedback Welcome)

BandTether

Hi guys,

Not trying to promote anything as its a free tool and hope people would find it useful

I’ve been doing resistance band training for over a year now and decided to create my own app to track my workouts. I thought others might find it useful too, so I added some extra features and wanted to share it here.

It’s completely free, and I’d really appreciate any feedback.

The third time I slapped a band in my face was when… 😂

…I did band assisted front levers and my foot got stuck in the band trying to exit. I thought it had enough slack and jerked out the foot. Hit me right next to the eye. Close call.

At this point there’s really no hope for me anymore.

Be safe guys.

Just under 1 year transformation

Feels good to be back

First photo with blue shorts is from almost a year ago at 190lbs, most people would say it’s not a terrible shape but for my standards it was.

I was eating whatever, drinking a bit, sleeping like crap, minimal time outside, half assed training.

But the training did not feel good because my recovery sucked I was inflamed, I sort of lost my positive relationship with exercise for a bit.

As a busy parent, it’s easy to fall into this routine and sort of accept it.

Then I woke up, cut out alcohol, locked in my diet, consistent sleep, started moving more, spending more time outside, training more frequently and with intensity.

Now I feel great, I have no desire to have even one drink, or eat processed food, because I have built that association with the things that make my body and mind operate more optimally.

Now about 174lbs

Looking for a solid 4 week resistance band workout plan

Hey everyone 😄

I’m kinda motivated to finally start training properly at home with resistance bands and I’m looking for a solid 4 week program. Not just random YouTube exercises, but something actually structured with proper workout days and some progression over the weeks.

Main goal is getting fitter, building some muscle, and staying consistent. Focus on upper body, back, arms and core would be great. Leg exercises should be somewhat knee friendly 😅

Also one more thing: do you really need one of those workout floor plates/mats for resistance band training, or is normal floor/carpet totally fine? If anyone has a cheap recommendation, feel free to share :)

Thanks Toby

Serious steel Vs harambre

It’s time to buy a new set of bands, but I’m not sure which manufacturer to choose. I primarily train with a bar-and-hook system and a DIY roller platform, so I am looking for high-tension resistance bands.

I am torn between Harambee and Serious Steel 37-inch bands. Being UK-based, Harambee is almost twice the price of Serious Steel. I hear great things about their bands, but are they actually worth the extra cost.

I am hesitant to buy without feedback because I recently purchased Heavy Duty Bar Bands and was a little disappointed. While they generally receive favorable reviews, I ended up returning them because I didn't like the linear resistance profile. I found them too "stretchy" and weaker than advertised (which I verified using a digital scale). To me, they felt like a cable machine, which might be what some people are looking for, but I actually felt like they needed more stiffness and top end variance.

Given that Harambee also emphasizes the linear force curve their bands produce, I’m doubting whether I should just go with Serious Steel instead.

I would love to hear any insights before I make a purchase, particularly from anyone who has used both brands

Working out is definitely a work in progress...

I've only just begun but for the past couple of days, I feel like a whale that's beached itself what with all the flopping and flailing around.

I learned today that floor exercises; aka sitting on the ground to do rows or crunches, just ain't gonna happen until I drop some of the tonnage. I was stranded until I could get my dad's attention to help me up.

Fortunately, the upper body exercises (arms, chest, shoulders) are doable thanks to the resistance bands I've got.

The photo is proof of why floor exercises ain't gonna happen for a while. I did find a candidate for getting an abdominal workout using my couch or chair so we'll see how well that goes.

Flight with Resistance bands - new style scanners

I enjoy using a big resistance band when I'm travelling: it's compact, I can get some deadlift type movements and stretching - perfect for travel time.

However, it seems to get flagged up on the new style airport security scanners in Heathrow - something about the density maybe - I think the band is natural rubber. Maybe it's the way I've got it all bundled up?

Does anyone regularly fly with workout bands, and go though the new style CT without trouble? What bands are you using?

Curls with Harambe Light Green

In this video I’m using Harambe’s arm bar (11lbs) with the light green band. There’s a 4.5” distance from the band to bar. I have curled 45lb bars before in the gym and I can confidently say this combination feels around that weight or slightly heavier at the bottom of the rep. This is my 2nd highest rep set that I’ve gotten with this combination.

Back to bands - any suggestions?

I trained exclusively bodyweight and bands over the pandemic and was in the best shape of my life. Went back to heavy weights for a while and now getting back into bands.

I have an old Xband bar and footplate, but I always found it a bit small and restrictive.

What are you guys using or what do you recommend other than just using bands on their own.

ALSO - what set of bands do you recommend

Thanks in advance.
