Today’s workout. Chest. Breakdown of exercises in body text

  1. Side Press. Amazing band exercise , you can feel those horizontal chest fibres being recruited as you progress through the range of motion. Starting with the outer chest and culminating in the middle part of the chest with a deep contraction. Great for mind muscle connection. You can’t replicate these with a dumbbell.
  2. Reverse flyes . Simple exercise following a pyramid path of motion. Electric upper chest contraction at the end of the movement which generates a heap of tension that tries to yank your arms to the ground. Used by bodybuilders to drive blood to their chest pre show. When used with a heavy band with a slow tempo it’s a fully fledged hypertrophy exercise. The feeling of these top two exercises alone will convert you to bands if you’re not convinced.
  3. Anchored lower chest press single arm - great lower chest contraction. I like pressing across the midline to recruit more of the diagonal / horizontal muscle fibres.
  4. Banded push-up. I’ve said this before . A staple of chest workouts. Combines the best attributes of a bodyweight exercise with the added tension of the top with a band. I do these in a slow tempo to prolong time under tension.

I stand corrected

Bicep curls on the bandbox -with a bar & zero issues with band wander 👌🏼

Also have to admit my head couldn’t understand how this wouldn’t be a doubled band - the feel of it confirmed it isn’t - 2-0 to Pascal 😂😂🤷‍♂️

There’s def a difference between the free spinning stainless steel rollers on this & the dampened sleeves on Cyberplate - odd thing is each time I use them i get to thinking that’s what I prefer - def think that the sealed stainless steel will be less likely to be affected by the dust & dog hair a home gym can generate long term - thoughts ?

DIY X3 roller retrofit

I've owned the X3 setup for almost two years as a 61-YO just looking to stay in shape without injuries. The only thing I didn't like was the shredding of the bands, so I took a risk with around $20 and a day and retrofitted what you see in the pic. 3/4" UHMW rod, some scrap steel I welded into brackets, and some hardware did the trick so far. Very smooth, maybe a few extra reps as I'm stretching the whole band now. Hope this helps someone thinking they'd want to do a similar mod.

I’m going to add some adjustable dumbbells to my collection of resistance bands and tubes soon 😜😜

Help with Loop Band Length

Hello,

I'm a beginner with loop bands and haven't exercised in a long time. I have done some research on here but am still stuck on making a decision.

For Serious Steel would I be better off getting 37" or 41" bands? I'm only planning on starting with a #0, #1, and #2 for now. I'm 5' 7".

Serious Steel told me to use an anchor I should probably go with 41" but if I'm eventually going to move onto a footplate / bar to get 37".

I'm not sure about a footplate and bar at the moment. I think I would like to do it at some point.

Starting out would it be more beneficial to get 41" bands and use anchor points? Is it difficult for someone that is 5' 7" to do exercises with just using my body as an anchor with a 41" band? Or am I better off to just go 37" from the start?

Thank you

What are some band exercises that I can do when I'm at work?

  • I work in a retail office setting, and there are plenty stretches where I won't see a customer, and I would like to use the downtime more productively.
  • I would like exercises that can strengthen the muscles used for push ups and sit ups, so basically chest, triceps, anterior shoulders, and abs

What exercises can I do with resistance bands to help meet my fitness goals?

  • I just want to preface this by saying that I know I am in terrible shape and am looking to make some serious changes. Aside from taking walks every day, I don't do any kind of exercise.
  • I am 6ft tall and currently weigh 230 pounds. I started taking Tirzepatide injections once a week last month, and I’ve lost 8 pounds so far.
  • I’m interested in applying for a position for my county’s Sheriff’s Department, but I need to meet the fitness requirements to attend the academy. I tried a practice test on my own and found I couldn't meet most of the requirements.
  • Specifically, I'm struggling with:
    1. Doing 30 sit-ups in a minute. I can only do 10
    2. Doing 23 push-ups. I can't do any
    3. Running 1.5 Miles in 17 minutes or less. I can't even run one full lap around the 400-meter track near where I live without feeling pain in both my knees and ankles.

Battle Rope replacement?

My gym got rid off the battle rope and filled the space with other stuffs that I don't use (I have hip dysplasia).

I have a set of resistance bands and a doorway pull-up bar in my tiny tiny apartment. But I don't have enough space to put a rope and swing it.

Is there any exercise similar to the battle rope, in term of movement and stress relief, but using resistance band(s)?

Thank you for any suggestions/ideas.

Need some help choosing Rogue bands

Hello! I’m considering getting some Rogue monster bands and a door strap, with some handles etc. I guess I just don’t know which size bands to get, comes in regular and shorty.
Looks like the regular size can be bought as two different sets. and idk which would be good to get.

I’m currently interested in doing running-focused strength training, but general full body strength is cool too. I’ve also purchased Rogue’s loop bands, they haven’t arrived yet but I’m looking to expand and diversify!
I guess I’m here
b/c I don’t want to fuck up and get bands that are too short or long, too weak or too heavy. I’m 6’5” and 181lbs.

Any advice on band length and strength (heh a rhyme!) would be helpful, as well as anything I could get to compliment my setup. Thanks for the help!

New to using bands

Hey! I’m looking to start a fitness journey, and I’m opting to solely use bands since I can use them at home, as I can’t afford a gym membership and I don’t have access to weights (other than 1,2 and 3kg dumbells)!

I’ve seen a set of 5 bands on Amazon which have varying degrees of resistance that I’m hoping I can build up to, and it has a lot of good reviews so I’m hopeful. And I feel like by spending money on new equipment I’ll make myself accountable to use it. I just don’t really know where to start with it all and what exercises I should be looking at.

For context, I’m a 21 year old woman, bmi 19, 50kg-ish and I worked out that I have a body fat percentage of 17.5%, so pretty much perfectly healthy/average. I work in retail and I usually walk to work so I usually get a high step count. I also enjoy doing yoga sometimes in my spare time, but I’m not currently as consistent with it as I’d like to be. I’m not looking to get super bulky or be any kind of bodybuilder, I just want to improve my strength and look noticeably more toned. Right now I feel like I just have a basic body, and I’d like to achieve a fitter, more toned version of it.

I’ve seen a few different workout ideas on TikTok targeting different areas. Is it better as a beginner to focus on individual muscle groups each day, or go for full body routines every time? How often should I be using the bands? Also, I’m going to Portugal in 4 weeks, realistically how much can I achieve by then (that’s not my motivation for starting, it’s just a timeline point!)?

Which band or attachment became more useful than you expected?

I’ve been comparing resistance-band setups based on repeated use rather than the number of pieces in a kit. A certain resistance level, handle, anchor, or small attachment can end up being the thing that gets used every week. I’d be interested to hear what you originally thought was optional but now use regularly

Band Resistance Calculator - With Smart Import

Anyone who trains with loop bands has hit this: you need something between your red and your black, so you stack, and then you have no idea what you are actually pulling.

I built a small web calculator for it. No sign-up, no app install, works fine on a phone.

What it does:

  • Tick up to 4 bands and it gives you the combined resistance, in lbs or kg.
  • Type in a resistance you are aiming for and it ranks the three closest combinations you can make from your set.
  • Loads presets for common sets (Serious Steel, Clench, X3, Undersun, Harambe, Bodylastics tubes), or you can type a brand name or paste a product URL and it will go look up the specs.
  • Whatever set you end up with gets saved in your browser so you are not re-entering numbers every time. You can bookmark it and use it as a reference guide.
  • Handles tube bands with handles too, which carry one printed rating instead of a range. Although the math with tubes is much more straightforward.

Note: stacking is only clean arithmetic when the bands are the same length. So if you stack a 41 inch band with a 34 inch one they are at different percentages of their length and the real total lands somewhere inside the range rather than at the top of it. Same length bands stack predictably. Mismatched ones give you a ballpark, not a number.

Link: https://rubberbands.app/calculators/band-resistance

Disclosure so nobody has to dig: I make a resistance band training app, and this is on that site. The calculator is free, and there is no account or email gate on it. There are a few others on there as well (1RM, TDEE, body fat by the Navy tape method) but the band one is the one I really wanted to make.

The part I would like feedback on is the band library. If your set is not in the presets and the lookup gets your numbers wrong, tell me the brand and length and I will get it in there and fix it. I think it's a pretty cool tool.

Long Haul Flight? No problem!

I fly a long haul cargo plane for a living. We can stay in the air for up to 18 hours, and it’s not abnormal for us to have a fuel stop that extends a Pacific crossing to 24+ hours.

That used to mean 24+ hours of sitting, sleeping, and eating. (4 pilot crew; 2 pilots stay on watch while 2 go to rest)

Not anymore! I bought resistance bands specifically to turn crew rest into gains. I’m definitely looking for ways to optimize this, but today was a great start on our 15 hour trans Pacific leg! Felt great working up a bit of a sweat when I’d otherwise just be laying there doing nothing.

The other crew members looked at me like I was either insane, or a genius!

Is the setup ideal? Not even close. Is it way better than lying there waiting for deep vein thrombosis? You bet!

Edit for clarity: I checked all regulations and company procedures before doing this. I did not do this in a way that disturbed anyone else’s rest period. We have a very large upper deck (747-400 freight conversion) with a shocking amount of empty space in which to stay active that usually goes to waste.
