Does my plan look normal? I have a couple questions.

Hi! I’m new to Runna, new to running in general, and training for a half marathon (17 week plan) in November. I started the plan being only able to run 5k in about 34 mins. Recently I added another day of running and another day of strength to my plan. My concerns are that any mileage increase week to week only really seems to happen on the long run days, and that there are two easy runs a week. Combined with long run day, that basically makes 3/4 of my weekly runs easy. Is this normal?
I guess I feel like there should be more tempo work etc, like, more activity days rather than just taking it easy so often? These things combined makes it feel like very slow progress and that I will only barely be ready by race day, rather than feeling confident.

Let me know your thoughts on these things, and,if this looks normal, and what if anything, can be done. Thanks for your help as always!

Need some help choosing Rogue bands

Hello! I’m considering getting some Rogue monster bands and a door strap, with some handles etc. I guess I just don’t know which size bands to get, comes in regular and shorty.
Looks like the regular size can be bought as two different sets. and idk which would be good to get.

I’m currently interested in doing running-focused strength training, but general full body strength is cool too. I’ve also purchased Rogue’s loop bands, they haven’t arrived yet but I’m looking to expand and diversify!
I guess I’m here
b/c I don’t want to fuck up and get bands that are too short or long, too weak or too heavy. I’m 6’5” and 181lbs.

Any advice on band length and strength (heh a rhyme!) would be helpful, as well as anything I could get to compliment my setup. Thanks for the help!

Is this pace generated by the app?

I’m not sure I ever entered anything as a goal, or if it even works that way. One thing I do know is that my initial goal was a 9:00 pace, so I just want to make sure this number is based on factors of how I’m currently working, because I don’t want to be overdoing it accidentally. Does that make sense? Thank you for your help!

Questions about Current Longesr Run

It hasn’t registered that I’ve done a longer run (yet?), am I supposed to be the one updating it, or will it update automatically? Someone in another post mentioned that for them it was staying 1mi under their true longest distance? I did notice that you can only input whole numbers for it though, so maybe if I run 6mi it will update?

Im not doing a great job describing 😅

Thanks everyone for being so helpful.

The internet can be such a fucked cruel place, so thanks for answering all my dumb questions.

I am so hyped that I got into running.

Can I build a plan based around how fast I’d like to finish a race?

I just signed up for my first half marathon, and when I signed up they asked me my estimated finish time. I just built a test plan, and it predicts that by the end of it I’ll be finishing about half an hour slower than my estimated finish time that I signed up for.

I would love to know how to bring that down if it’s possible! Thanks for your help, and any suggestions!

Forerunner 970 appreciation post!

I am 40 years old, never worn a watch in my life. Never really had any interest in exercising at the gym, but do enjoy biking and hiking when the time comes.
My girlfriend and I decided to do some insane mental toughness challenge called 75 Hard (look it up!) which got me out walking, and now I’m getting into running. I’ve had this watch for 3 weeks now, and it is literally running my life (pun intended) and I couldn’t be happier about it.

At first I bought the new series 11 Apple Watch. I spent two hours in the store, and the whole time the watch kept on locking on me. The person helping me told me that I needed to wear it further up on my wrist, but that was it, they did not bother to mention anything about tattoos having a negative effect on how it reads the data. Shame on them. For fcking shame. I was really only interested only in steps, and something that could link to Strava (75Hard got me addicted to that app!)

Long story longer I returned the watch 2 weeks after I got it because I hated how it kept locking on me!! So annoying. I decided to do some research on my options, after learning about these little epoxy resin stickers you could put over the sensor. I have heard mixed reviews about the accuracy when doing that, (even though I’m not a health data expert I think my data is pretty consistent, and seems to be realistic! ) but figured that data from a working watch that is slightly off would be more useful than a watch that keeps locking on me every two seconds!

I coulda got an oura ring, but those don’t do steps well, and mixed reviews for runners (hands swelling during activity etc). I thought about Whoop but heard the steps aren’t accurate, which is primarily what I was interested in.

At first, I thought the Garmin watch face would be too large, especially considering that I have a small wrists, and the Forerunner 970 only has one size which worried me. I looked at all of the different models and wanted something that could do it all. I know Garmin is a solid fcking company from their chronographs, to Bowhunting rangefinder/sight, to their inreach. I’m a ‘buy nice or buy twice’ kind of a guy, and I like nice things. It’s just like me to get something way over my head.

Long story EVEN LONGER…This watch strikes a very nice balance! Garmin-quality maps with the ability to upload more, lots of amazing health data tracking, analytics and training advice. A lot of it doesn’t apply to me YET as far as being an athlete, (like I don’t yet need to know how long my feet are on the ground in between each stride) but there is some really great info and tells me a lot about my body and training readiness!!! It’s got an accurate step counter, it’s a decent size, not overly bulky and not too huge a watch face, this one is LIGHT! (and it *has* a light!) Sapphire screen for my clumsy self, and it connects to my Spotify… and the nylon band I just got is the icing on the cake. Absolute perfect fit, breathable, and no irritation from silicone rubbing.
this is the lamest thing I’ve ever said but this watch is so incredibly motivating, and has boosted my confidence about being an active person who takes care of myself. It probably has something to do with spending a lot of money on it, sure, and I DO love my gadgets, and a good rabbit hole, but I guess now that rabbit hole is running!?!?
I am currently doing a couch to 5k running program AND signing up for a half marathon in November (yes, like a stupid and insane person). Who the hell IS this guy?!
I am so happy with this purchase. If you’re thinking about getting a Garmin THIS IS YOUR SIGN!

Is doing a couch-to-half marathon by mid November an insane goal?

Currently midweek # four of C25K, and got invited by my friend to join him to do a half marathon in November. should I take him up on it, or is this a dumb/risky goal. As a new “athlete” I don’t really have a good gauge for how long these things tend to take, so let me know what you guys think of this goal!

New Runna subscriber already on Week 4 of a C25K plan—where should I start?

Hello!
First, I’d like to apologize if the answer to this is painfully obvious!
I’m a fairly new runner and have been following a C25K plan for the past 3 weeks (about to start Week 4), and I recently decided to take the plunge into the world of Runna!
I’m also new to navigating the app, and I’d ideally like to avoid starting from Day 1 of the “New to Running” plan since I’m already partway through another beginner program.
Is there a way to start somewhere in the middle of the plan without getting the dates all screwed up?? How do I do that? I’d like the workout schedule/dates to line up with where I am now rather than starting from the beginning.
LOL am I even making sense? I don’t want to overestimate my fitness, but I also don’t want to undertrain by restarting from the beginning.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. As always, thank you for your help!

Day 75 LETS GOOOOO!

Let’s see, it’s 8 AM: I’ve already got one run out of the way, at least 10 pages, progress pic, and 2 quarts. It’s in the bag, this day ain’t ready for me.

I am living breathing proof that this is achievable. Trust me when I say that if I can do it, then you can too. I was (and in some ways still am) a sloth POS who loves his indulgences, but now I wake up at 5:30 or earlier every morning and go for a walk or run, and use my lunch break at work for the same, despite being on my feet all day. Definitely adopting the early rise after this is over, it’s the quietest part of my day and I absolutely love my solo time. Now if I could just get to bed on time 😅

I’ll be doing this again with new goals and guidelines. Definitely feeling more disciplined, and generally healthier., maybe it will be next year, but for now ya boy wants some Ben & Jerry’s, tomorrow can’t come fast enough!

Am I the only one who can’t figure out how to launch ECG App for the first time? (FR970)

It’s like it never activates. There’s a big button in the Garmin connect app that says to launch the ECG app. I do it. The watch tells me to I put my fingers on the metal ring, which I think I’m doing. Nothing happens. Eventually it times out, and I get an unable to connect notification on the phone which asks if I want to retry. 😭

Books like You Can’t Win by Jack Black

It’s my favorite book of all time, I fear that I’m at a loss and that there’s nothing else that can come close to it, so prove me wrong!

I love the amount of adventure, I’m obsessed with hobo culture and life in the rails. I love the amount of shenanigans they get into, from the heist to BNE to the jailbreaks, etc., The trials and tribulations of it all, life on the rails, and the fact that it’s all true makes it that much more Rich of an adventure.

Coming from being a trash human, How am I doing? W3D1

It should be noted the very last interval is so long b/c i needed to keep the timer going, after the run I had 15 min more exercise to do on my daily 75 Hard workout.
Day 72 of that btw 😏

how am I stacking up? Looking for honest critiques. Please destroy my confidence if need be, I can take it. (Did I even post the right info? 🤔😅)

My main goal is to finish a 5k without injury.

Where do I get high quality watch bands?

I’m absolutely obsessed with my FR970, wondering if there is such thing as an upgrade for the watch band!! Lmk whatcha got, how you like it, and where I can get mine :) just qualified for free shipping on amazon, so bonus pts for that option, but I **hate** that I use amazon, for the record!!

Noob here: quick questions (Forerunner 970)

This is gonna be lame, so forgive me:

Does this watch have a sleep mode that is accessible from somewhere like the control panel via holding the light button, or some similar quick access? On the control panel I can see “focus modes”, and one of the default is ‘sleep’ but is there another way to put it into sleep mode without having to go into another menu like that to put it into sleep mode?

Also on kinda that same note, I can’t figure out how to get my watch to display the monochrome face that is used for such modes as ‘sleep’ etc.
I remember getting it to display like that a couple days ago but I can’t figure out how to get it to display like like that now. Halp!

silly question, forgive me! What’s the difference between heart rate zones ratio and heart rate gauge ?(fr970)

Both have the colored zone indicator, and the number with the heart. To me, they look basically identical when choosing data fields

I don’t normally wear watches, does this look too big for my wrist size? Does it sit too far up my arm?

I have questions about this plan

https://youtu.be/oLjatOYru1k?is=5zFc-gHqOByEmnKX I hope this link works?

I found this seemingly pretty sweet C25K plan on YouTube, I like it because it’s supposed to turn you into a better runner than that of a run-of-the-mill C25K plan.

Has anyone else done this one?
I was hoping to get some stuff cleared up, so, sorry in advance if this gets lengthy.

From someone who does not exercise, do any of the strength exercises here require weights? I feel like the Turkish getups may want a kettlebell, and maybe the Cossack squats could use a medicine ball? I’m just going to use some diy equipment if so…

The Saturday workout is where I’m the most confused: it consists of a hike/fast walk plus a very slow continuous jog at the end.
The chart says “Total Time” starts at 25 minutes and increases by 2.5 minutes each week. It also says to increase the slow jog portion by 2 minutes each week.
My confusion is: does the listed “Total Time” include the slow jog, or is the slow jog added on top of the listed total time?
For example, if Week 1 is 25 minutes total and I can currently do a 10-minute slow jog, is that:
A) 15 minutes walk + 10 minutes jog = 25 minutes total
or
B) 25 minutes walk + 10 minutes jog = 35 minutes total?
How would you interpret this?

If anyone is still reading, TYSM!!!

Quick question

I am trying to set up the ECG and it asks me to make sure that I’m wearing my watch on the wrist I selected from setup, but I don’t think I ever did…can someone direct me how to do this?
