Thinking about clothes (disconnected ramble)

How long do heatwaves last? It has to end eventually.

Apparently I had a deficit in summer clothing because I have been having to cut up shirts and sew tank tops, and it still doesn’t feel like enough.

One of the minor annoying things about being trans is clothing, replacing your wardrobe. I thought I was done replacing my wardrobe and was in a good place for the most part, but I’ve been having to make alterations just to avoid heatstroke. I can’t help but think about the process of replacing clothing, about how expensive it can be, and about altering clothing.

I just keep on thinking about how being able to sew and tailor your own clothing is such a useful, maybe even necessary skill for trans people. I think every trans person should learn how to sew, at least basic sewing.

I’m also thinking about what I should make next for this weather, and how lucky I was to get top surgery before this summer. I know a lot of people wearing binders are at an extreme risk of heatstroke, especially considering how most people who bind wear black and thicker fabrics to hide their binders.

Is everyone surviving the heat okay?

Anyone else horrible at getting rid of old clothes?

Doing my regular closet clean and I’ve been struggling getting rid of a few items, mainly items I’ve had for about a decade now. I believe I’ve been struggling as these were the first masculine clothing items I was allowed to buy as a young teenager. They’ve just been occupying space in my wardrobe, untouched for years. Only managed to get rid of a few because I realized I was too broad shouldered now for them to ever fit again.

Anyone else struggle with that?

Man, sometimes people in the community tell on themselves real bad

If you’re noticing an issue where every single trans person you’re interacting with is rightwing and Incel-y and you make a post complaining about it, maybe consider the problem is you.

Maybe, just maybe, the issue is that you literally post in trans Incel spaces and that you have chosen to keep the company of trans incels. If whenever someone googles your username all that pops up is you posting to an infamous transmed subreddit and honesttransgender declaring yourself a true transsexual and complaining that even the FTM transmeds you hang out with are too sensitive and act “too female” the issue is you.

This is about a specific person but it’s something that I keep on seeing. If you’re only on the subreddits for people that have been banned from the normal trans subreddits… you can’t be surprised that they’re shitty people. If you’re on a 4trans/Transmedicalist subreddit, you’re choosing to hang out with people that have conservative values in the trans community.

White privilege really makes white trans guys act like that huh

No trans person has ever been denied gynecological care because this one guy has never encountered it before. Everyone has easy access to the gynecologist and if a gynecologist discriminates against them, they can just easily get a new one!

Zero Days without racist nonsense

A white American trans person makes a post going “Trans genocide is the worst genocide to ever be committed, there has never been a genocide as bad and complete as trans genocide.” Says a bunch of racist shit, says slavery wasn’t that bad, writes that trans people have been erased from every culture on the planet (false) and then tries to explain my own culture to me… while misspelling the name.

Are there any formerly transphobic parents here?

Parents that were formerly transphobic: what made you change? When did you stop being transphobic?

Has your bond been mended between you and your child, or is it still permanently damaged?

Someone who isn’t native decided to make a subreddit using the goddamn racial slur berdache. They are very obviously not native, and have been causing problems in multiple subreddits by using slurs. One visit to their subreddit and you can see how little they know. They are using Indian art… FROM INDIA. That’s the WRONG TYPE OF INDIAN.

They are also espousing new age nonsense which is its own form of playing Indian. I’m so tired. Apparently I am supposed to agree with them because of their new age spirituality, as us natives are so *spiritual.* Okay.

They claimed to be “native physically” and when I asked what tribe they belonged to, they said “I belong to Mother Earth.”
