Under 2 weeks from seeing Hu for the 5th time.

Just bragging. lol I don't love seeing them as the "third," but I will take seeing them whenever we can. This is by far the most I've ever seen a band - I think I have seen Sarah McLachlan 3 times. I go with my sons; 2 of them have seen them at every show with me, but my oldest has "only" been able to go 2 other times with us.

My dream would be to see them at an all acoustic showing, but I will take whenever I can get,

We finished our campaign tonight, and it was amazing.

This is sort of a follow-up to this post, where I do some mild complaining about our game and my players:

https://www.reddit.com/r/daggerheart/comments/1vo89um/comment/p3o35kb/?context=1&screen_view_count=2&ext-referrer=SEO

Anyway, because of schedules and people moving, we had, at most, 2 sessions to finish a game that has been going for a year now and had so much more planned.

Tonight, I led them a little in the direction they could go and set a few hard limits (a player just wanted to frontal-attack the enemy that was way out of their league). They got right back into the over-planning DnD habit. "I can do this, and then you can do that, and then he can do this." "Okay, then I can go roll for this, and then you can go do that." lol

I fonally told them "Stop telling me your plans or I will kill you. I have 13 Fear, and I will use it all to summon every bad guy here." (I wasn't going to, but I needed the threat.) lol

Anyway, one of our players started an amazing scene where they were recruiting allies to fight the BBEG they were there to kill, and everyone else jumped in, and they created a really cool rallying scene.

This led them to send their new allies into battle while they sneaked around to attack the BBEG, bringing all their plans into motion.

We had an epic, massive final battle where I rolled 3 nat 1's spotlighting an enemy; a player took down the BBEG in a blaze of glory, everyone was at 1 HP, maxed stress, out of hope... and they decided to effectively shatter the world they built (we did all world-building together) to end the threat.

It was absolutely epic and memorable, and although the game ended way earlier than we wanted and not everyone could be there at the end, we had one of the all-time great sessions and did everything Daggerheart hopes to do.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention is that I used music this session, which I don't normally do because we have some hearing issues. I had battle music playing for the final fight, though, and as I was giving the final send off to our player who had his character sacrifice themselves, as they stepped into the great hunting grounds beyond and were reunited with their brother, the player said "Let the hunt begin..." And the music ended, completely unscripted but absolutely perfect. We all agreed there was nothing more to say.

My players keep trying to micromanage everything

This is a small, relatively minor rant, but it's annoying.

For context, we play mainly DnD (for decades), but have tried many other systems. Daggerheart was the first one that really grabbed us, and we moved on to it almost immediately after release.

We did really well learning and switching playstyles, but we have had a lot of scheduling issues, so as soon as we get into a groove, we have a break and have to "relearn" the philosophy.

I will try to describe what I mean. In DnD it feels like we need to manage everything about the game... searching a room, travel time, shopping in town... they want a roll, a narrative, a moment where I tell them exactly what is happening, why, and whatever the reactions or outcomes are. I think this is a way the system is played - where every interaction and decision needs to be rolled for and accounted for.

The difference with DH, I think, is that it allows more flexibility so we don't get caught up in the minutiae of every rock and every climb check and every quiver of arrows purchase. They can say, "We return to town and resupply - I want X, Y, and Z..." we can go to the blacksmith because he's my uncle and then back to the inn, because Rosie liked us and she will give us a discount on provisions and then I can say "Make a social roll," or just let them have it for X amount, or add complications, whatever it might be.

I don't know. It's a weird thing, and I don't know if I am describing it properly. They just still want me to lead them way too often, and I look at Daggerheart as being able to move things quickly, and then only zero in when there's something they (or the story) think is a big enough moment to focus on.

I had to cancel a campaign and stealth restart it without a friend and I feel shitty

A little bit of context... This person is a very dear friend who I met in a game like 15 years ago.

Edit: for context, we have soent 15 years accommodating this player with everything we could think of. Everyone was ready to move on. I'm not going to list everything we've done because I'm not trying to be the good guy here, just recognize I feel guilty still.

She joined our game at our house many years ago after getting kicked from the game we had first joined together, that was a 3.5 game.

She's never really taken to the rules and is basically there for the story and make-believe.

I thought Daggerheart would be great for her, where she could be a bit more free. In DnD she would pick one spell or attack and just do that every time because she couldn't think of anything else, or didn't know what to do. From time to time, she would read the title of a spell and decide what she wanted it to do, when that wouldn't work, she would go back to her comfort zone.

With Daggerheart, she had the ability to be more inventive and interpretive things. Setting aside the phone use, the off topic conversations, generally not paying attention, she never learned the rules after a year and really only did 2 things, even late into Tier 2 as a druid.

I don't want to just dump on her, I do love her as a friend, nearly a family member. But, we had a situation where we haven't played in a couple of months (schedules, no one's fault), age a player dropped because he knew he wasn't going to be free for a while.

Anyway, I decided to restart with the 4 players I have that are really committed and we are not bringing along the player in question.

I feel bad, but even my wife (who is our real life seraph) said it's just going to be easier without her.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I'm just trying to shed some guilt. 😖

TL/DR: We have a player who never caught on and I took an opportunity to move on without them and I feel like crap about it.

What character class is best for a fire -based spellblade?

I've got an idea for a clank fighter-wizard, but I can't nail down a class. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Our older rescue loves pets, but wants you to know he's not ready yet if you pet him.

Soon after we adopted Tiger, he disappeared to our laundry room. We found him sneaking around at night, 2-3 days after "losing" him. This was a few days after we found where he was hiding, and a lot of steady work to get hm to even come out. He hisses at anyone who comes near, but he will never bite or scratch. He comes out for pets, and purrs while he is hissing. We have cleared up his whole little kingdom, but he's starting to come out "just to see."

2-days later follow up:

He's making great progress. Each morning he hears us get up, and we can hear him meowing into the vent, but he hisses when we come down to pet or feed him. Today he came up the stairs enough to see we were there, and then went back to the laundry room to eat. He almost ate at the door, but I went to refill his water, and he came over. He's not hiding in that crevasse at all anymore, though. He still hisses, but that must be his "speech" at this point. I'm hoping in another couple of weeks he will be up with everyone else.

Alternative available on YouTube or Amazon?

I am teaching summer school, and we have a theme of The Great Outdoors. I wanted to watch a season of Alone with them, but most streaming services are blocked, and I am not going to buy a series that they may lose interest in immediately.

Is there an alternative on YouTube or Amazon that you would suggest? It's middle school, and it has to be "no adult language." I can explain and get away with some hunting because of where we are regionally.

Thanks!

If you're looking for a Tombstone deck, here ya go

Remember, TS destroys other locations.

Muse will gain power as soon as a card is destroyed, so if he's in middle with Wolverine and you destroy a card in left with TS, Muse will go up as soon as that happens.

Weapon X can win a lane on his own, I prefer right.

It may not be super original, but I hate destroy so I wanted something different. Good luck .

Some Move Tips

With the coming Moveable season I thought it would be good to provide some tips. Move is my number one most played archetype and I've tried everything. Here are some things I've found successful:

You only have to win 2 lanes. I know this sounds stupid, but I see a lot of people with Move trying to spread out too much power and get massive numbers everywhere.

Heimdall can be a trap. Mary Jane may easily (probably will) change this, but so many people don't have the numbers and then think Heimdall is going to save them.

Play a lot in Proving Grounds, take the losses and play it out. Learn how much power you can put out.

If you haven't moved after turn 3, or aren't set up to move a lot, leave.

Don't bother playing around locations that stop your movement, just Nope out of there.

Move happens first, but you can decide the order they move. You can't play Kraven and have cards move to his location on that same turn to get a power bonus.

Most movement goes left and they will expect you to win the left location.

Hydra Stomper can put up big numbers in one lane, don't put it with your other big move numbers.

Madame Web gets value based on the number the card she moved, not just her 1 power. Having her in a lane with Hydra Stomper is nice.

Move has really opened up, but it's still harder to manage than any other archetype. You have to play a lot to really learn it, know when to retreat, and what your kryptonite is.

Moveable and how these may interact with cards like Arana is still somewhat up in the air. Much of this may change.

To those asking for "my deck," I am not posting any decks because I have multiple Move decks. I don't really play Hydra Stomper in a standard Move deck, but, dome times I do. Lol Also, the BND season is going to change a lot of Move decks.

I would say, don't sleep on Dagger (I don't like Cloak), and Vulture.

Missing rotations in HV feels so punshing

Due to schedules, work, etc. I missed 2 rotations. I was fine with it because it was my choice to not get up an hour early or stay up an hour later, but now I am sitting at 4200 points and can't even get a crappy variant with the shop staying open.

I think the next time they do this, they need to open it up to carrying 5 missions and letting us get the higher value on a reset if we can get an open mission slot by completing at least the easier ones.

Movable should have a number

Instead of Movable Once/Twice, etc, it should say Movable 1/2/etc. A card like Vision wouldn't need a number, it's Movable, not Nightcrawler should read Movable (1).

With this change they don't have to worry about the descriptions getting confusing. They can add cards that are Movable (3) or Cards Here Gain Movable (1).

Move is my favorite and most played deck, but they've never quite gotten the wording and timing right. I don't think the way they have changed it makes it any better or makes it easier to add new cards in the srchetype.

Can't upgrade members to YouTube premium

We upgraded to the premium unlimited plan, which should give all members 6 months of YT premium. My wife got it no problem, but when my kids try (over 16) they don't have the same option, it just keeps sending them back to the help screen.

Any suggestions?

Black Bean Chalupa, Fresco

Fresco black bean chalupa, add red strips and onions. I opened it up to... this nonsense. lol I went back to the counter, asked if I could have some lettuce, and they had to pull up my order. Close to 5 minutes later, I finally got a fiesta potato bowl filled with lettuce. There were at least 4 people working, and we were the only people in the restaurant. It was spectacularly comical. Like... why am I lying about getting a bit of lettuce? lol

Basic QoL Things the Game Should Already Have

  1. Every keyword in the filter list - how do we still not have Afflict, Activate, or Objective?

  2. Different variants per deck. Maybe more complicated, (too complicated), but I want my Move deck to have X border and my X-Men to have Y border.

  3. A claim all button!

  4. A counter for how much energy the opponent has or will be getting.

  5. Revealed cards to stay revealed.

  6. A completely revamped Conquest mode. There are too many screens and too many "winning" screens. Make PG be 3 life; max 2 per round, Silver 5 life, and then up to 7.

  7. Trainer/Bot matches to test decks against. Sometimes I just want to know if a combo will work. I really don't want to risk cubes or mess around with CQ just to see if one janky interaction works like I think it will.

  8. Merge Cards should either take on the graphic or the card that started the merge (Phoenix), or we should have a choice.

  9. More deck slots. I don't really need it, but I know people want it and it literally requires no real space to worry about. Just add 4-6 slots.

  10. Mute all. I know this has been talked about ad nauseum, but I think it still deserves to be there.

What did I miss? I know people have ideas about variant rotation, but I never buy variants, so I'll leave that to others. lol

Tasting Menus Are Boring

I thought Bridget Christie was funny, but after a while it felt mean spirited. Fern and Phil were both awful. I thought they were barely interesting and very unfunny. I couldn't even get through them, they were so boring.

I get why they held on to Phil's so long, and I really hope it's a long time until we see more.

This is more of a "Mildly Infuriating" instead of a full on nightmare.

This is also not 5e.

Anyway, we have a person who is cursorily part of our group. He left a long time ago because he's an asshole and he cheats. He also minmaxxes to a degree none of us do. When he plays it's always the same character. It's a sorcerer or spellblade type of character, he doesn't play with the group, is always invisible, and doesn't participate in any roleplay or most combat. It's really hard to explain, but he's the problem player we all know about.

Anyway, he hadn't played with us for a few years, when we all got sick of him and the group "broke up." We restarted without him. The DM, for whatever reason, feels bad for him and likes him.

After a while, the DM said he heard we were playing and wanted to try again because no one else will play with him. We said no.

Fast forward a few months, and one of our players is moving away so we need a replacement. I request to have my son join. I get that approved, but only if the problem player joined, too

It went as well as expected, he lasted a few sessions, everyone is annoyed. He cheated, never played with us, barely talked, invisible -through-the-dungeon to aggro everything. The whole time, the DM never said anything about the rolls that were twice a high as everyone the unlimited spellt slots, the massive bonuses to every skill...

Yet, I get asked for multiple copies of my characters, and my son keeps getting called out for "math that doesn't add up" for his character, and we are told that our characters always break the rules and character guidelines.

It's not a gamebreaker, but it's freaking annoying.

Realistically, I would only use one. I like the art and idea of Incredible Creatures, but the environments in Archibald's could be useful.

I will probably end up with both, but... If you would recommend one, which would it be?

reddit.com
u/Feefait — 4 months ago

I got it a month or two ago, and then didn't use it for a while. Unfortunately, the battery died. I plugged it in, but nothing happened. I finally got it to reset and charge, soI plugged it in and it said charging, so I left it alone to charge all the way

Last night, I double checked it was charged, it struggled to turn on, but finally did. I read a bit and turned it off... But now, again, it won't even turn on. I can't reset it by holding in the power button while plugged in, either.

I only ever use the included charger.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong, or if I'm just screwed?

I've always been a fan of Roll20, but we have been playing Pathfinder through Discord basically since Covid.

My DM is only not good with tech, he's also (or because he's) a textbook luddite.

We won't use character sheets, maps or tokens (or anything).

With the "age verification" things with Discord we almost stopped completely. Luckily, it didn't go through yet, but also our dice bots have not been acting nice. Most of us are really tired of just seeing our rolls come up in a text line.

So... He won't be willing to download anything. He also (probably) won't create an account because of privacy concerns.

It would be a really tough sell to get him on anything, but I'm hoping there's something I missed that really just has virtual dice and voice chat. I'm not sure if he will be willing to run 2 programs (so dice in one and Discord the chat).

I know this is a tough ask, and I appreciate any help. Thanks!!
