How good is this game in terms of “soulslike” qualities? (Explained below)

Weird title, but I didn’t know how else to ask this or what it’s called lol. Basically I love games with fully skill based combat and high build diversity, like in the souls games, you can fight the final boss at level one because you have dodge I frames. You don’t need to kite enemies, cheese, min max, or do any other things, it’s just raw skill. Is this game like that in that you don’t need specific abilities or to be a certain level to fight without cheesing? (Like in Skyrim, how technically you can fight at any level but you need to kite enemies and hide behind jank and stuff.)

Second, how “specialized” can you make builds? Often I like to make very specific types of builds, like a fire only mage who specs into damage amplifiers, a regeneration tank, status affliction build etc. Can you specialize and mix and match, or is it more like “You’re a mage, but can restrict yourself to fire only, though it provides no benefit.” Type of thing? I really don’t mind if it’s not op, as long as it’s not nuclear bomb vs wet paper towel kinda differences, I just find the build diversity and different fantasies fun.

Sorry if these are weirdly specific things to ask lol, I have weirdly specific tastes and I feel like this game is bordering on being very fun or very boring for me based off what I’ve seen!

How many choices and roleplay potential do PoE 1+2 have?

Okay so honestly I’ve played both these games before, but so many years ago that I don’t really remember much of anything about it. I’ve gotten way into roleplay games that allow me to play as vastly different characters with different choices, dialogue, endings, and story choices that actually affect future events (or atleast reference).

I honestly don’t care much for the combat, but I don’t mind just going easy mode and skipping through (did the same for the pathfinder games lol), but I love games with many paths. So outside of just the ending slides that technically have tons of combinations, how diverse can each playthrough be?

(Also, can you be full on evil? I usually play my first run as a good guy but since this technically would be my second I might as well try the opposite path lol.)

How does memory work?

Okay so the memory feature is really annoying me right now, and asking the ai itself or searching it up is giving me nothing.

With ChatGpt, I mostly use it for brainstorming and OC character creation, meaning I have multiple chats open about my OC’s. I’ve generally had memory off because I’ve had the issue of the ai mixing up an old oc with a new. At some point recently apparently it got turned back on, as when in a single chat I gave it the info on each of my characters to discuss relationships and dynamics, and suddenly it pulled out not just character I gave in this chat, but old characters I haven’t used in like a year. So I turned off memory again, and now it can’t remember any character in that chat beyond literally just the last one I gave it?? Upon asking it why it can’t remember the characters I’ve discussed in the same chat, it says they aren’t included in the context.

So I’m wondering, how does memory work? Can the ai just not remember beyond the last message you give unless memory is on? What’s the point?

A quirk based off a DnD bard!

I’ve been having fun recently converting my DnD OC’s into BNHA, one of the main things being converting their classes and fighting style into a single clean quirk, that can do what their character usually does, without being too crazy op. Today, I’ve done so for my bard oc who uses illusions and enchantments, and I’m curious on anyone’s opinions on it! (I admittedly don’t have a name yet lol.)

Her quirk allows her to create various effects based off her singing, having two main categories, the tempo beat and tone do mental effects (enchantment from dnd) and the lyrics do illusions (illusions from dnd). Singing upbeat song bolsters allies, a somber song de-energizes enemies. What the lyrics talk about can create non-tangible illusions.

For the mechanics, when she starts singing, the effects are very weak, only able to mildly affect enemies or summon a tiny illusion. As the song goes on, the effects grow stronger, without a particular cap. (This will be balanced by some things I’ll talk about in the drawbacks section.) If she stops singing for even a moment, the effects are reset, back to their weakest form and lose all momentum, so she cannot instantly swap between effects, however if she’s clever, she can smoothly transition between effects, this however breaks the precious effect, and takes a little time, as she can’t just suddenly change the entire tone, it has to “make sense”.

For drawbacks: For one, if she stops for even a second, the effects stop fully and have to be reset. An enemy can use a silencing effect (either a quirk or even just tape on the mouth), or just punch her so she breaks her momentum. (Or potentially a foe could just block their ears lol.) It’s also quite hard to do mid combat, singing while fighting and making up lyrics and different needed effects while finding bridges between them without breaking any of them. Finally as an actual bodily result (since most quirks seem to have one) using her quirk leads to vocal strain, or even losing her voice if overused. (Meaning temporarily having no quirk.)

That’s the jist of it! Thoughts?

(Extra notes: Just for anyone curious about other ideas/anyone who wants to discuss, I was also thinking of giving her a rapier as a hero support item, but idk if that would be allowed lol. Her quirk doesn’t technically need it like Stain or Snipe do, but her og dnd character was a college of swords bard so I’d like to keep it lol. She is loosely based around a jackalope too, so I was thinking of connecting her quirk/music to be connected to antlers she has, that she could also snap off to “magically” shape into a rapier, but that kinda just felt like too many effects on an already varied quirk lol.)

What can breathing styles actually do?

Okay so just for fun I’m trying to design some breathing styles for my OC’s, so I’m trying to figure out how they work and what’s possible, and honestly… I’m left deeply confused. I know that, at base, it’s basically just breathing a special way that makes you fast and stronger, basically a body boost, and none of the “magic” visual effects are real, but then I’m confused by some of the anime stuff.

Like some make sense within that context, like Zenitsu just moving really fast or Tanjiro just sorta doing fast circles around a foe with water breathing, Rengoku just hitting really hard with some etc. Those make sense within the context of just being faster and stronger.

But then we see Sanemi just summon a whirlwind while he’s on the ground. Obanai shoots out a snake from his blade that takes out enemies from a longer range while he’s still in the same place. In the infinity castle Giyu is falling straight down, and somehow just changes directions to the left and defies all gravity. There’s obviously the bullshit of Muichiro’s mist that apparently isn’t actually there yet Gyokko can’t see through it to him. I’m sure there more, but off the top of my head those already don’t seem to make sense.

So can someone help me understand what exactly is possible with breathing styles? What is and isn’t real? Or are those supposed to just be fancy visuals too for the viewer and in their world they’re actually just moving around. (Though that still wouldn’t explain Muichiro…) What’s the extent of the magic bullshit?

What am I missing about the mod “DnD 5.5 AIO Beyond”?

So I’m looking through mods to add to my console list, and quickly I found this one, after looking up reviews about it… it seems to be mostly disliked? (Always judging by the reddit comments I’ve seen.) It seems like people dislike some of the changes made to rules, but always the onesie I’ve seen on its main wiki, just don’t seem that big of a deal?

The main big changes seem like one spell slot per turn, heavy armor requirement, and prone. I tried looking through update history and it just seemed to be full of bug fixes. Idk if I’m just missing a big section, but I don’t really seem to see any particular changes that would make this mod harder or annoying.

So can anyone explain what big deal changes I might’ve missed? Bc this mod seems absolutely amazing otherwise, so many new features, classes, spells and feats, new mechanics, all roled into a single mod. (Which is great as a console player with a limit.) But I also don’t want to accidentally play a mod that may ruin a bunch of stuff as people seem to be pointing towards?

Need help with some level 20 build planning:

Alright, I’m doing a level 20 modded build (other mods will add ons and cosmetic, like mystra or amp, no class mods) and im kinda struggling to figure out some good builds for my party members, since I’ve already done a lot of the popular builds. I have some ideas for each one them.

First, my main character will be a surge with 2 GOO warlock, 6 lore bard, and 12 wild magic sorc (heavily flavor) and she is a control caster themed with chaos or ‘depraved’ magic. I don’t need help planning her, I’m just explaining so we don’t have any overlap.

For my party, I’ll use Astarion, Shadowheart and Karlach. I have ideas for each:

Shadowheart, idk why but I really enjoy the idea of having her be melee for once, so I’m thinking a shadow monk, with potential things/checkpointa from different classes being:

Monk:
1: Unarmored defense
5: Extra attack
6: Shadow step
11: Shadow strike

Warlock:
1: Booming blade, fiend health
2: Devil sight (for shadow hiding) (armor of shadow if unarmored?)
3: Pact of blade
5: Pact of blade extra attack
12: Life drinker

Paladin:
2: Smite, Fighting style
5: Extra attack
7: Aura of hate

Rogue:
2: Cunning action
3: Thief fast hands

Astarion, I’m thinking either a Necromancer type thing or arcane trickster themed build (so a sneaky mage, daggers + buffs as my support), with a few useful checkpoints depending on which path being:

“Arcane Trickster path” (Sneak + Party buffs)
Rogue:
2: Cunning actions
3: Rakish attacks
4: Dirty tricks
11: Reliable talent?
1-11: Sneak die

Bard (Sword):
3: College of Swords Flourishes
6: Extra attack
1-11: Useful buffs spells

Warlock (Hexblade):
1: Bind weapon (Wrathful smite also?)

Alternate Arcane Trickster”:
Bladesinger:
2: Bladesong
6: Extra attack
10: Song of defense
1-11: Useful buffs spells

Rogue Arcane Trickster:
2: Cunning actions
9: Magical Ambush (For occasional cc? Idk, felt worth mentioning.)
11: Reliable talent?
1-11: Sneak Die

For a Necromancer, I’m honestly not really sure what some good ones could be other than like… pure wizard Necromancer or pure death cleric lol.

And Karlach? … I honestly have no idea for her. I don’t want to play her as a barbarian because I’ve played her as that several times by now, but I’m also not really sure what. I was thinking maybe a 4E monk + giant barb for a fire melee thing? Or maybe her as a fire sorcerer? Or even maybe just her as a Druid since I can see it vaguely fitting. I’m honestly open to anything or nothing with her, sorry that this is less in depth than others.

So yeah, ideas? What do you guys think would be the best optimization of these? Any alternate suggestions? (That keep the spirit of each I was going for, not just suggesting a different approach entirely lol.)

*Fun* ideas for level 20 builds?

So I’m planning out my next playthrough while I figure out what mods to use since it’s been awhile, and I’m trying to figure out what builds my companions should be. I’m using a level 20 mod because I really enjoy the flexibility it gives in build planning. (Though I will be using some difficulty mods to keep it fair.)

I’ve already tried most types of normal builds, so I’m curious what are some more creative ones level 20 allows? Not necessarily what are the *best* builds, just what are some fun, creative and unique ones.

My main characters is a GOO Warlock/Lore Bard/Wild Magic Sorcerer as a control caster (heavy on flavor). If it matters, I’ll be using Astarion, Shadowheart and Karlach, but obviously I can just respec them into whatever.

Help with a debuffer/status/curse mage?

I’m trying to do a new playthrough with a character heavily themed for madness, chaos and general ‘foul’ stuff (like poison, rot or just anything kinda gross or disturbing), where her main combat goal is inflicting statuses and being a nuisance to enemies. So far I have two main, solid things I want to keep (a lot for flavor) I want to be a GOO warlock (provides an Eldritch flavor, + gives solid Eldritch blast damage and mental inflictions from the basic attack crit, so two levels here) and wild magic sorcerer, (atleast one level, just for the chances of random affects for added chaos.)

But other than those basic levels, I’m not sure what a good build may be, especially since I plan to go level 20 with a mod (hence the mod tag lol) so that’s a lot of extra levels to play with. My first thought is of course just going full sorcerer for max spell slots and max spells while still having a solid basic attack in Eldritch blast, but idk if that would be ideal since it’s been awhile since I played tbh.

My only *solid* rules are I definitely want to keep those levels of warlock and sorc (so level 3 minimum) but other than that, I’m flexible for what you guys think may fit, as I’ve never really seen any builds like this. And I want to be ranged, no melee.

(And I’m open to mod ideas, I’ll already have several things that add new spells and gear.)

Should I use AMP or FED? (Or would both work/be good?)

(Console!)

Okay I’ve seen this question asked a few times, but answers seem to vary, and most are kinda outdated, and I’ve hard atleast AMP has been updated often. I want more loot, but idk if Ancient Mega Pack or Fade’s Equipment would fit what I’m looking for better. Usually I’d try and test them, but I don’t think I could get a real feel for the lot in my usual prologue run through.

Some background for me and my style: So I’ve played Baldurs Gate 3 NUMEROUS times before, solo, with friends, vanilla, modded, in almost every way. When I played more, I knew this game like the back of my hand and loot got kinda boring, but it’s been like close to a year. (Idk how much I remember. I’m sure I’ll remember a lot still.) I almost always play with mods, (in most games tbh) and notably, I hate any op mode or goofy mods, but I also like feeling op, if that makes sense. So easiest to address first, I don’t like goofy mods that break immersion or feel like they don’t fit. I also don’t like op mods that make the game easy and a steamroll. I’m not exactly a hardcore masochist gamer, but I enjoy having to plan encounters, resources and positioning instead of just basic attacking everything to death in their face or having a modded spell that’s a “I win” button. But I also do like feeling powerful. I don’t want to feel like I’m some random dude who struggles to kill a single goblin. (I think the best way to explain it is like this: I don’t like difficulty mods that make it so every random goblin has a million hp or makes me weak. I’d like one that adds more goblins, either just a tons of goblins so it feels like my character is struggling not because the goblin is stronger, but because there’s just so many and they have to be unfair to win, or similarly a mod that adds more types of goblins with strategies that help eachother, so it feels like I’m still powerful and flashy, you know?)

My main draw in this game is roleplay, and I like making builds that fit them. I come up with a theme or character, make a build that fits that, and then try and make that niche build as good as possible. I’m willing to sacrifice some power for flavor and roleplay, but I’ll prefer to be strong and min/max. I like seeing my character progress and come into themselves.

I enjoy the idea of AMP, it sounds fun not having to make notes of what exact items I’ll need and making sure to collect them throughout the game, and it sounds fun being able to just see how mu build evolves and progresses as I find random items that work. But I’m also worried it may become op, I don’t really want to like get a legendary sword at level 2 and one shot everything or have 30 ac immediately. I also do want to have a general build outline, instead of being completely at the mercy of RNG and just potentially being unable to do, say, an ice mage if I wanted to be specific.

And finally, is it possible to use both without weird methods like having to restart each in a certain order every time I load the game? I heard you used to have to do that to use both, idk if that’s been fixed since I’m on Xbox. Do they work well together? Still random?

Best console mods 2026?

So it’s been like a year since I last played a run of this, and I’m looking to start a fresh one! It’s been awhile, so there are *tons* of new mods in console, and I’m curious what you all think are some of the best for the 100 limit? I used to be able to just go through each page 1 by 1, but there’s now like 300+ pages, so…

I’m pretty much looking for overall gameplay mods with diversity. I don’t want to be op so no really easy or op mods, I’m not really looking for any new classes either as I have a build in mind. Other than that I’m open to whatever you all think are good mods, gameplay improvements, new encounters, new clothes, the best customization and face mods etc.

Help deciding next playthrough? (Between two choices)

Hey, so I completed this game like last year, and I’m looking to give it another playthrough! My main issue is I find the combat *really* boring, so I’m trying to figure out what story path would be the most diverse and different from my last play thought (between two main paths I have in mind.)

First, my first run was as a neutral good golden dragon, basically the classic good guy hero, doing what’s right, but pretty prideful.

So I have two characters in mind, either a full blown evil demon, go full genocidal maniac (I would go the swarm for full murderhobo, but I wanna try romancing Wenduag lol.), and just be as evil as possible. Or a more chaotic neutral trickster, playing a whimsical, curious and fun driven wizard who’s just looking for knowledge and chaos.

I’m wondering, in your guys opinion, which is these sound most fun? (And to explain why only those two, I mostly play games as my OC’s, so I like to make sure my paths in game fit the oc and are based around them, instead of choosing a path and then creating a character around them.)

What class would a fae (most likely) be?

So weird question, but I’m creating a character based off a fae. Long story short, she was once a fae who abandoned her power (and memories) to become a mortal and live in the material realm. (Feel free to ask questions if needed, this is a very rough draft of just the barebones.)

I of course will have her be a magical caster, and naturally inclined towards more ‘fae like’ magic (like illusion and enchantment) but I’m unsure on which exact class she should be, mostly between sorcerer and bard.

I have two main arguments for each. Sorcerers are born with their magic, it’s part of them, just like how fae are naturally magical creatures. (So I can just say she has traces of her old magic. Not making her op, but just explaining her power.) But bards are musical and whimsical, fae are often expressive and associated with music and performance, like a bard.

So yeah, what class do you guys think a fae would be, / which best fits a fae?

How to write an ‘insane’ character?

(First off to be clear, I’m not trying to misunderstand or generalize words, I’m gonna use words like ‘insane’ just to get my point across using the more sensationalized media versions. This won’t be based off any specific real mental illness or disorder. I just need help figuring out how to write a personality like that during her ‘breaks’ and ideas.)

Okay so I’m making a character with heavy themes and based off the whole Eldritch god, mostly the madness thing. The rough summary of her character: An Eldritch god linked itself to her at birth due to her having a strong mind that won’t break like most. Due to this early link, she (as an adult) is skittish, frantic, anxious and paranoid, hearing voices and visions and seeing things from other layers of reality. In return for her link, she can access her patrons powers, which manifest through her own mind as inflicting madness and chaos on others, and making her highly observant, with frequent ‘hunches’ about what to do.

But a fun trope I wanna do for her is kindve the ‘split personality thing’ (and to be clear I know this isn’t how split personality works, I’m using the term in the more unrealistic movie version and just to get what I mean across.) for her because I would like to have her character have a struggle with sanity, as a way to add stakes and risks, as I’d like to make it so when she’s ‘snapped’ she has more powerful magic, giving her a risky last resort.

I don’t necessarily need it to be 100% realistic, and I will be very clear that it isn’t supposed to be a realistic telling or representation, which is why I’m making it its own thing. More of a fantasy or magical version. (Like how the Joker I’ve heard is an extremely inaccurate representation of insanity, yet people still love him.)

I have researched somewhat into some related mental illnesses and actual insanity, but it’s such a broad subject, and there are various made up stories with fictional versions I could base off instead, and since this is supposed to be more of a personal writing thing over a serious psychological documentary, I feel like it would be better to just ask other writers how you write it and avoid any potential harmful stereotypes.

So my main actual question is, how can I write her when she’s in her ‘insane’ state, how should I depict her ‘switching personalities’, and how can I avoid making her just a stereotyped cringy crazy person.

My complaints about the second movie.

Just watched the second one (so obviously spoilers) and I’m curious about how others feel about a few things.

First off, what happened to Cole. I never liked him, and I heard most don’t like him, but damn, felt like the writers just wanted him gone. He was barely mentioned, barely had screen time, and then died. Even after he died, he’s mentioned like once, and everyone moved on. It was funny, but they coulda made him a little more plot significant, especially after they said he was their “best fighter” XD

Second, idk if this is just me, but Shao Kahn felt kinda weak. Like every fight was pretty even, he never felt like a real, scary big bad threat. I know he’s not exactly supposed to be good defensively, but I feel like it could have been handled better. Like if it felt like he was constantly getting hit on purpose so he can attack more it would be cool, but it just felt like he was getting injured just because he was a bad fighter. The scene where he’s stabbed in the hand and he uses it as leverage was badass, and I wish they did it more, or atleast he had more fights where he dominated and felt like a real threat, instead of an even fight. Idk, I just never felt too threatened by him.

Finally, and this one could just be me missing something so I’m less concerned, but the final round felt weird. Like they were allowed to two on one Shao Kahn during an official match? And then Kitana was just allowed to swap sides, and Shao Kahn doesn’t get a replacement? Essentially becomes a 6v4.

But overall I liked it, fights were cool, gore was great, and I don’t think it’s supposed to be taken too seriously, but I’m curious how others feel about these things.

How to make a shy, meek and ‘submissive’ main character?

I’m writing a new plot, the story is still in very early stages and rough draft, but the general idea is it will follow a meek and anxious girl who’s haunted by some greater being (think a DnD warlock), she will be tormented and haunted by visions and tricks this being gives her (either indirectly or on purpose), which causes her to be very anxious, worried, and as said, meek. The general plot will follow her and this being and her trying to rid herself of it.

But my main struggle is idk really how to write her for this. I enjoy the idea of writing a character with this personality since I like making diverse characters different from my last, and I’ve yet to make one like this, but she’ll also need to go on some form of quest and face hardship and battle (I like writing action lol), so idk how to write for both.

(Also if it’s relevant, her own magic will come from her ‘patron’, probably a lot of mental or madness themed attacks, with the idea of her inflicting others with her own turmoil and such.)

I have tried researching other main characters, but none really seemed to match what I’m looking for, either being just not a combatant at all, or relying more on power of friendship to gain bravery.

TLDR, how can I write someone who is shy and meek, yet also able to face hardship and fight for her goal? This entire thing is in very early stages still, so I’m mostly just looking for ideas and brainstorming, and if anyone else has done similar.

Edit: Also to be clear, this is still very early stages and unspecific, I generally want her to be more anxious and meek, but I’m open to ideas and I’m still heavily working on her character. I don’t necessarily mean she’s submissive in that she just bends over backwards at anything.
