The Impossibility Of Debate On The Other Sub

Subject line says it all. Can’t dare say anything negative about the beloved city without tens of downvotes and unhelpful pricks on replies.

In this instance, it’s any suggestion that perhaps more could be done about the current Princes Streef chaos.

That’s there is more nuanced and intelligent discussion under the Minutes post on Instagram is very telling of what an embarrassment that sub is to our city.

Is The Super-N The New Jimny?

Before I get moderated out, this is not a negative post. Let me explain.

When Suzuki started previewing the fourth generation Jimny back in 2018, it was one of those small cars that immediately cut through as being instantly cool.

It was such a clean modern design, a proper 4WD with a ladder chassis, bore more than a passing resemblance to certain other SUVs and had a very attractive entry price made even better with great finance deals.

The UK sold out of its allocation almost immediately, with the result that it became one of those unicorn vehicles with negative depreciation. Even today an unmolested launch model more or less sells for what it sold for new.

I have a really strong feeling that the Honda Super-N can be a car like this here in the UK market. The cool factor is off the scale, the Kei car origins appeal to the Gran Turismo generation (of which I’m an OG member), and for the second vehicle in a city household it seems like a no brainer.

Am I losing my mind? For reference, we were a two car household until recently and main transport is a Volvo XC40. This would be an additional car.

Exit Rows

As a Silver member, I always take the opportunity to snag an exit row seat when I can.

And of course when I do I have to click an acknowledgement on the website or app, and at LHR T5 get rejected by the e-gates so that I can be told this again by the gate agent in person, finally being briefed by an FA on the aircraft itself.

But increasingly I find myself sitting with people who I imagine would struggle to understand that planes even have emergency exits. How does this happen and how do they get as far as the aircraft without being briefed?

Raising this as it’s happened again today. But on another recent occurrence a woman on the window seat had to be moved by the FAs as she refused to let them stow her handbag.

Be interested to know if this is another post COVID thing or if there are just that many idiots among us.

ND Hood Issue

After a long gap, I will soon be in the market for another MX-5, which will be my fifth overall after an NB, NC PRHT, and a couple of early NDs (ND1).

Should I go for a soft top, one concern I have is the fault where the inner lining became detached from the hood.

This was a big enough problem in my second example that it drooped down partially obscuring the rear window.

Was this fault ever fixed with a redesign? For reference I’m not currently searching anything older than 2022 registration date (so late build ND2).

Trams Update From App

And it’s as bad as I’d feared.

Looking like no service beyond West End for at least another week.

Tram Service Restoration?

So, I fully understand why we can’t have through trams; you can’t take several hundred passengers past an unstable building.

But we are now on day three of an essential transport mechanism being out of action across the most densely populated part of the city.

When there has been heavy maintenance they’ve always been able to split the route into two shuttle services either end of it. I appreciate that no vehicles were on the Leith part of the network when the fire was discovered.

But I’d really like to know why they couldn’t have a handful of trams shuttled down here to operate even a curtailed service from Newhaven to Picardy Place.

Thoughts?

Has Film Festival Website Imploded?

Or is it just me?

They must have known demand for the Trainspotting stuff would be off the scale, and clearly their IT isn’t scaled for it…

UK/EU Refurb Sale Now On

Very good deals on some camera bodies and certain lenses that aren’t already in the seasonal sale.

In particular the Z50ii, 12-28PZ and FTZ II (if you don’t already have one) look like conspicuous bargains.

But pretty much the entire Z lens range is in stock.

Experience of Viltrox UK

I’ve used this site to buy some of the cheaper lenses, and it’s worked well, with fast free shipping and near permanent 15% sales that make it cheaper than UK dealers. But as I contemplate more GAS, I was wondering if anyone had experience of them having to remedy faults or take returns.

In particular, I’m wondering just how official this site is; one thing I’ve noticed is that it often takes them quite a while to get the newer ranges after release.

It’s probably one of our many Brexit “bonuses” that direct sales aren’t managed directly from the main global or European site. Do other UK based Redditors shop here?

… please move up the tram.

FFS, instructions couldn’t be any clearer and still they gape and stare. Could have easily had ten more people on the tram I’m on right now from Picardy.

I’d love to see these people cope on the Northern Line in high summer.
