Solicitors

I live off Alamo near buck ave and these soliciting salespersons are genuinely so obnoxious. I never answer the door but they knock and ring the doorbell multiple times. Do they really think that knocking for 30 seconds straight will encourage someone to open the front door??? I had a no soliciting sign at my old house and it was always disregarded so I haven’t put one up at my current house but is there a way I can deter them? I’m about to remove the wiring on my doorbell 🙄

Pregnant

How the fuck are other pregnant or have been pregnant dispatchers dealing with working mandatory OT and night shifts???? I have about a month left until I’m on mat leave and cannot take it anymore. I’m so tired getting off these days that I don’t even remember my drive home. I’m averaging a max of 5 hours of sleep per night and having to constantly miss/reschedule pregnancy related appointments which include me getting infusions for completely depleted iron levels. I feel like shit and haven’t tried to adjust my hours for the sake of my coworkers but omg. I’m starting to get horrible anxiety about the possibility of birth complications. I got forced into a 14 hour shift today and have appointments after work that are going to cause me to get basically no sleep. And I’m expected to be back the next day and do it all over again in my third trimester.

Working mandatory overtime

Im currently 31 weeks and plan on working to 36 weeks as a night shift 911 dispatcher. The problem is we already work mandatory 4 12 hour shifts and get forced overtime on top of that if somebody calls out sick. Tonight I just got a last minute force so I’m now working from 5pm and getting off at 7am. This job is literally sending me over the edge. 12 hour shifts have been hard enough because I’m severely anemic and average 5 hours of sleep during my work week. Now I’m expected to work for 14 hours and go to a dr appt for iron infusions 4 hours after my shift.

Has anyone had shifts adjusted for pregnancy?? I didn’t want to screw my workplace by adjusting my shift a long time ago but it’s getting so difficult especially in the 3rd trimester. I have a month left and I don’t think I can make it. I’ve been so stressed and sleep deprived and I’m although my pregnancy has been overall healthy, I’m getting anxious about having a birth issue due to everything going on. I’m going to mention all of this to my OB next week when I see her but I haven’t spoken to her about it before so I have no idea if she will want me working less hours or say it’s fine.

Sorry in advance if this sounds rambly. I just found out about having to stay over at work and just got off the phone crying to my mom about it. I literally don’t know what to do.

How often is too often

Those with pools, (opinions from those without pools also welcome) how do you handle family members wanting to use the pool all summer?

My husband’s side of the family has been getting pretty comfortable asking to use the pool at the last minute and staying 2-3 hours when they come. They only contact him to ask permission even if I’m the only one home. He is VERY good about asking me before giving them an answer but I feel bad saying no so I usually just tell him it’s fine, but it’s starting to get annoying for a few reasons.

I’m about to have a baby and have been in nesting mode and spend my few days off work doing mini home renovations and deep cleaning. I’ve also been struggling mentally during my pregnancy and haven’t been the most social. I feel bad because I like his family but right now, I don’t have it in me to be an outgoing host. I know that this is a perfect and reasonable excuse to say no but part of me just needs to vent.

This is my last child free summer and the family in question has multiple young kids. They’re loud and can be heard from all parts of the house when they’re swimming. I’m trying to soak up these last few quiet weeks while I still can. And sometimes I wanna use my own damn pool 🤷‍♀️

I also don’t know how to feel about them 1) only asking my husband, 2) giving us short notice of when they want to come and 3) staying for multiple hours. Maybe I’m looking too much into it…? I know this is a privileged problem to have and I feel guilty complaining about it, but I’m also curious on how others have dealt with similar situations.

Other people’s kids in my house

I’m starting to hate having guests with kids over because I feel like I’m the only one monitoring what they’re doing. I don’t like confrontation and would never want to come off like I’m parenting someone else’s kids but it’s getting so out of hand. My SIL brings her kids over often and they act a lot worse at our house than a strangers assuming it’s because they know we’re family. Every time they leave I find something that’s been broken, food on the floor, toys dumped out and not put back.

It’s gotten to the point where when I find out they’re coming, I frantically close certain doors and hide things that they’ve previously messed with. I feel like I can’t relax in my own home when they’re here. I also have cats and they will chase them all throughout the house including into our bedroom which makes me super uncomfortable and is also just stressful for any animal. My SIL usually just laughs it off and shows no urgency in disciplining them.

I’m admittedly very type A but that doesn’t mean I flat out don’t like kids in my house, I just want them to behave reasonably and not have to parent them. I’ve been having my husband relay my expectations (such as leave the cats alone and don’t go in our bedroom) since it’s his family but I need to start standing my ground since it’s my house. Any advice would be appreciated.

Worried about navigating holidays

To preface, I do love my husbands family but ever since we got married this year I’m noticing a huge lack of boundaries with my MIL that the entire family is aware of but does nothing about. When we were dating she was very friendly and generous and still is but now that I live with her son, she kind of just does whatever she wants with no regard to me. For example if she’s coming over and we give her a set time, she will show up 1-2 hours early every time without fail. She either does this unannounced or only lets my husband know, who then fails to let me know. Super fun getting a knock at the door 2 hours before plans when I’m still in pajamas.

Anywho, we’re having our first baby soon and I’m already stressed about how we’re gonna celebrate holidays. I’d love to start our OWN traditions in our own house while still making separate time for our respective families after the fact, but my MIL is so overbearing I’m already anticipating issues. She loves hosting anything and everything and I’m worried my husband is going to invite his whole family to our house on holidays and she will basically take over my house in terms of hosting/cooking, which has already happened previously.

My husband is very aware of her behavior and gripes about it often but can’t seem to put his foot down. It’s almost like the whole family has learned to pick their battles with her. I’m having a hard time understanding the dynamic because both of my parents are good communicators and don’t have boundary issues and would never get offended if I did set boundaries with them. We’re extremely close and they’re both understanding of the fact that I have my own family now which comes first. My husband cannot say the same about his mom and he knows. I think it hurts him when I bring any sort of issue I have with his mom to his attention, even if he acknowledges her poor behavior.

Cockroaches in norcal

I just moved to an old house (northern California) that was sitting empty for awhile before moving in and I’m at my wits end with the roaches. Moved in a month ago and have seen 5 alive and countless dead ones (after setting up traps) inside. Outside is another story. I could walk outside and count at least 20 hanging out by my back doors right now. Where we keep the trash is the same and the outside water meter is full of them. The ones that are dying appear to be oriental cockroaches but the living ones making it inside I think are German. My house passed an infestation inspection but I feel like this cannot be normal. Grew up in the northern Bay Area my whole life and have never lived somewhere with this many roaches. We have indoor cats so it makes sprays/traps difficult but with a baby on the way I need these roaches to be 100% gone by summers end.

Basically trying to determine if this is normal or a legit infestation. Any advice is appreciated especially considering that I don’t want my pets getting sick from pest treatments.

Cockroaches

I just bought a house here and I’m trying to figure out if this city has an overall roach problem or if my house itself is infested. The water meter out on the street is full of huge brown roaches, same with where I keep my trash and I’ve seen about 5 alive in my house within the month. I’ve never lived somewhere where so many roaches are just hanging around outside so idk if this is normal. If I go in my backyard at night I can easily count 20 within 5 feet of my back doors.
