Some people mention it's because her songs weren't as catchy and while I do agree that's one of the reasons, I also think it's because her music sounded to grown. And I don't mean in the sense that her music was inappropriate or too sexual. Her music was always family friendly, but it was different compared to the bubble gum pop that the other Disney artists were singing. Her last studio album was mostly R&B, and the theme of her songs were about rejecting relationships, working a 9-to-5 job and seeing who your friends are. Other Disney artists were singing about relationships, friendships, make ups, break ups, hating school, wanting to be famous, going to the mall, and being on top of the world. Not to mention that Hollywood Records has had a horrible track record of promoting women of color such as Chyna and Coco Jones.
Here are my top three picks for each group.
Jem and the Holograms: Running Like the Wind
The Misfits: Designing Woman
The Stingers: Destiny
