Help reattaching crystal to geode

Hi! I cracked open this amythest geode years ago and a gorgeous crystal was growing right along the split which fell off. I'm finally getting around trying to reattach it. The problems are 1. there is dirt in the area on the main stone. I gently brushed off but not sure if I try gluing it if will be a problem. Should I try to wash it first? I did gently wash the other half and it is ok. 2. It was only attached along the edges and has a huge hole inside the crystal part, also covered w dirt. Should i fill the hole w glue? 3. What type of glue?

The other small crystal on the kleenex goes on top.

I think it will look so cool reattached but dont want to destroy it if this isn't an acceptable thing to do if that makes sense. I plan on keeping it. I will attach pics too. Thanks for help!!

Do you know the Definition of these 2 words?

  1. Maw

  2. Dour

Wondering if these are well known, without looking them up. And not meaning Mother for Maw.

Would be helpful if you could include your age range, like Teens, 20s, 30s, etc. Thank You!

Update: Wow never expected so many replies. Thank you everyone, some very interesting answers from a group of obviously well-read people. I wonder if I had posted this in a general info sub if these would be as well known.

Is Fidelity a better choice for Ira to Roth conversion money held in mostly cds?

Retired funds. Thinking about opening a Fidelity acct for Iras needing transferred out of Discover Bank this month, and other Ira cds at local bank maturing in 26 & 27. May convert 100k to Roths early next year, with more conversions next few years B4 Rmds. Majority will be invested as tiered Cds. May try some Etfs next year. Already have old Roth act and Ira cds at Credit Union but maxed NCUSIF. Also have Merril Edge for cash cds but didn't really like their Ira account for Ira Cds, 1k min, rest of $ in no interest act. Is Fidelity a better choice for Ira to Roth conversion money held in mostly cds? Thank you

Social Security Tax Relief?

Received an email from Social Security

Commissioner stating:

"Just last year, on July 4, 2025, President Trump signed into law the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. This historic legislation included a tax cut that allows Americans 65 and older to keep more of their hard-earned Social Security benefits. Thanks to President Trump, over 35 million American seniors received an average of $7,500 in relief this tax season."

While I applaud this tax cut for seniors, this wording is purposely misleading. Makes it sound like seniors will save $7500. In reality, this is a temporary tax DEDUCTION, averaging 7500, which means if you are in the 12% bracket, you could save $900 in taxes. 22% bracket could save $1650. In reality it's even different because you don't figure the taxes on the average. The deduction is only 6k for singles, 12k for married. And it phases out with higher incomes.

There were many other positive claims in the letter, not sure about their validity.

Just so ridiculous how "facts" by our officials are so twisted.

New Fan (#3!) on my Paph, and still Blooming

Just an update. My first Paphiopedilum, bought April 2025, in bloom. Second fan (pic here) opened in mid March, last week third fan popped up! I love these leaves and how full she is getting! Wondering if I should repot again, I did last summer after first bloom done. She seems pretty happy. 😍

Follow up with my opal & UV light

I just recently purchased a uv light to check out all my rocks and jewelry! Still learning. Here are a few of my pieces I was wondering about. Most people from my last post say the opal is synthetic, I am thinking so now too, will take it to a jeweler to verify and let u know. Thanks for all the help in prior post! Any other info appreciated.

Love opals, just found this sub! Most were acquired in the 80 and 90s. Bottom one estate piece, not sure age, rubies glowing in UV light! Top one lab from 30 years ago, for comparison. EDIT: Fyi, being told bottom one stones are synthetic. THANKS for the award Joan and Lanky!!

7pm update: Doe a Deer! See pic below!!Will add pics below. I do this daily. Have many other wild visitors, usually 3 blue jays, they love their baths! Momma bunny only eats a few seeds then goes back to resting under a bush. She's been hanging around about 3-4 years now. Sometimes 5 a day, usually in the Spring.

Please Say Hello to my New Alexandrite!

I have a BIG birthday coming up so decided to ask for one of my birthstones I didn't have, a gorgeous lab alexandrite! Bought a uv light to test my jewelry and here's what she did! Really difficult to capture her beauty in photos, she changes from blues to bright purple depending upon the lights. The halo is white sapphires. I love her!! 💜

Update on my momma bun

This is my momma bun, came for a visit and a rest from feeding her new babies! She's been hanging around my yard for years, will run toward me when I call her, is not afraid of me. She likes the seed I put out for the birds. Last year she was here daily, sleeping under this bush often. Then she made a nest in our side yard. Unfortunately the babies never made it out of the nest. So shortly after that she disappeared and other bunnies took her place but not quite as friendly. Every once in a while I think she would stop by but pretty hard to tell sometimes. I wasn't sure she was still alive but this week she showed up and spent alot of time under the bush. Yesterday my neighbor told me there were babies 2 houses away. I walked nearby but not too close, called out, and she popped out of the hedges! I talked to her a bit and then a tiny puff ball popped out, it was so adorable! Of course no phone. This morning she was here under her favorite bush, she's been here all day, sleeping, preening her chest, eating seeds. So happy she's back and safe. Praying her babies grow up quickly. I'll try to get a quick pic without being invasive. ♥️

Tried a new recipe and it is delish!! Called for cranberries but I used dried cherries from Costco. Next time I will chop them up smaller I think. Also called for mace but I used Allspice, only half tsp cause I wasn't sure about it but will add a touch more next time. See pics for recipes and yellow post it for my changes to recipe. This loaf came out the best rise of any I've made before. Sweet setting. Let me know if you try it!

Been meaning to post this, bought her last year and she then had some brown spots on leaves from being too wet in spag. Treated her w fungacide, repotted into bark after bloom done, w just some spag, kept her just slightly damp, and she made another plant which sent a bloom out end of January. It kept growing taller and taller and finally popped open the end of March.

This is her today, still glorious! Her stem is 14" tall! Last pic is last years bloom.
