I just learned that mycelium creates heat as its colonizing grain. I made a few too many spawn bags and keep them in my martha tent(which is inside a closet)
I opened the closet and was hit with a wave of heat. I knew they made heat but i had no idea it was so dramatic!
Is it okay to keep my unicorn spawn bags out in the open air? I want to only keep my monotubs in the martha tent if possible and leave my unicorn bags out in my storage room, although I’m worried they’d be more likely to contam. Im aware the filter patch is to filter the air going into the bag to prevent contam, although it feels much safer to leave them in the tent.
On one hand if i leave them in the martha tent setup, they’d get too hot and go bad, so id need to “burp” my closet a few times a day.
On the other hand im worried to leave my spawn bags out in open air with a room full of random tools and BS that could contaminate them.
Has anyone had a similar issue or know if it’s okay to leave my bags out?
Ive read hundreds of opinions and i know it all boils down to preference.
Im simply wondering others opinions who have tried both.
Do they yield the same?
Does one tend to have more flushes than the other?
Are they both the same resistance to contam?
Is one simply just more fun than the other?
If anyone has opinions or facts to share please do! Mush appreciated all!
Tried making my own brow rice spawn bags, the others look amazing!
Although this one has this weird web climbing up the side. Is this just mycelium or maybe some kind of cobweb mold? Pictures aren’t great I’m aware its hard to get a good picture through the bag
PE#6
Ran out of substrate on my last bin but the bag was already open, i said screw it and tried unpasteurized substrate.
Some people say the myc can eat the trich but some say to cut all losses. Any advice?
The first one is 100% ready to go to substrate, the others I’m worried about just yet, when i shake them theres one or two loose grains at the top of the bag that shake around, does that mean they aren’t colonized yet? Or maybe they are, just not connected to the cake. The entire cake feels firm and ready to go(other than one or two of them in these photos)
They’re APE and PE#6 and were initially colonizing very slowly. I did a break and shake a week and a half ago and colonization sped up rapidly after that.
Essentially I’m wondering if the rest of them need to look like the first picture, or if they’re ready. looking for an experienced growers opinion on wether i move to substrate tomorrow or wait a couple days
Much appreciated!
Casually drinking a busch light tallboy tonight, took one of my last sips and this was in my mouth. Is this a piece of corn or grain that got through the filters? Sorry if this isn’t the right sub i wasn’t sure where to post it
