My sister-in-law is suing me for defamation and claiming I made fake Instagram accounts about her — but she has no evidence

Location - Los angeles

My sister-in-law is now suing me for defamation, and one of her main claims is that I supposedly created fake Instagram accounts to make her look bad.

I never did that.

She has accused me of making fake accounts, attacking her, and trying to ruin her reputation, but as far as I know, she has no actual evidence showing that I created or controlled any of these accounts.

What makes this even crazier is that before all of this, she posted my mugshot online and made accusations about me publicly.

Because of everything that was happening, I filed for a restraining order against her. The restraining order was not ultimately granted, but she is now trying to claim that I only filed it to make her look bad. That is not why I filed it.

During the court proceedings, the judge even made a comment that if I were to sue her civilly, I could potentially win based on what had happened.

Now she has turned around and filed a defamation lawsuit against me, claiming I created fake Instagram accounts to damage her reputation. I honestly don’t understand how she plans to prove something I never did.

I’m keeping copies of everything I have, including court documents, screenshots, social media posts, messages, and anything else connected to the situation.

Has anyone dealt with a defamation lawsuit where the person suing was accusing you of running anonymous or fake social media accounts with little or no evidence? What kind of proof would they actually need to connect those accounts to a specific person?

Leaving out identifying details because this is an active legal case.

Life

Does anyone else feel like life just doesn’t feel the same as it did five years ago?

I can’t fully explain it, but something feels different. The way we connect with people, the way time passes, the way we experience everyday life—it all feels like it changed somehow.

What do you think changed? And please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Is this normal?

My husband frequently raises his voice at me and often seems unable to have a calm, normal conversation without yelling. His yelling can become extremely loud, prolonged, and aggressive—sometimes directly next to my ear—to the point that my ears and head physically hurt. I am not exaggerating when I say it feels unbearable. Even when I ask him to lower his voice or stop, the yelling and name-calling continue.

During the most recent incident, we were inside the car with our dog, so I felt trapped in a confined space with nowhere to step away and calm down. He continued screaming, degrading me, and calling me offensive names. I became overwhelmed, angry, and emotionally reactive, and I hit him. I understand that hitting him was wrong, and I am not trying to excuse or justify that behavior. I take responsibility for losing control. At the same time, I want it documented that this happened after sustained yelling and verbal abuse while I felt cornered and unable to remove myself from the situation.

Afterward, I left the house because I believed separating from him was the safest way to prevent the argument from escalating further. Once I left, he repeatedly called and sent me a series of abusive and intimidating text messages. He called me degrading names, used slurs, insulted my weight and intelligence, demanded that I answer the phone immediately, and sent messages such as “piece by piece,” which I found disturbing and threatening. The messages were not an attempt to calmly resolve the situation; they continued the same pattern of humiliation, intimidation, pressure, and verbal abuse after I had already removed myself.

California defamation default—plaintiff asking for $2.5M

A family member sued me for defamation, false light, and emotional distress. I did not respond, so they requested default judgment for about $2.5 million.

The court later scheduled an OSC because they did not properly submit the default-judgment paperwork. They also dismissed only the Doe defendants, not me.

Does asking for $2.5 million mean they are likely to receive it? Can the judge deny or greatly reduce the amount if there is little proof of actual damages?

Opinions appreciated

I am looking for honest outside opinions because I genuinely do not know if I am seeing this situation clearly anymore.

A few years ago, I started dating my boyfriend, who is now my husband. At the time, I had only met his parents a handful of times—probably no more than five times total. They barely knew me.

Very early on, they decided they did not like me. Instead of getting to know me as a person, they started digging deeply into my background and personal history. They focused heavily on mistakes from my past and a criminal case that involved multiple felony allegations.

For context, that case was ultimately dismissed and I was not found guilty. Despite that, they treated the allegations as if they were proven facts and used them to define me.

Things became much worse when other family members got involved. My husband's sister publicly attacked me and my business. She posted my mugshot in multiple places and referred to me as a criminal. It was humiliating and damaging both personally and professionally.

The situation became so severe that I filed for a restraining order against her. I did not win the restraining order, but that does not change the fact that this entire ordeal had a massive impact on my life and reputation.

The part that hurts me most is what happened to my husband.

At the time, he worked for the family business. It was the only career he had ever known. He dedicated years of his life to that company and to helping his family.

After I came into the picture, he was pushed out of the family business. His brothers cut ties with him. Family relationships that had existed his entire life suddenly disappeared. It felt like the entire family turned against him because of their feelings about me.

What I struggle with is that these decisions were made by people who barely knew me. Rather than judge me based on their own experiences with me, they relied on old allegations, internet searches, and information from my past.

Fast forward to today: my husband and I are married. We have built a life together despite everything that happened.

What I cannot understand is this: it has now been over two years, and his parents still have not reached out to their own son. No phone call. No text. No attempt to reconcile. Nothing.

Regardless of how they feel about me, I cannot imagine completely cutting off my own child for years. Even if they disliked the person their child married, I would think the relationship with their son would matter more.

I am not claiming to be perfect. I have made mistakes in my life, and I take responsibility for them. But I also believe people deserve the opportunity to move forward and be judged by who they are today.

So I am asking for honest opinions:

- If you were a parent, would you cut off your child for over two years because of who they married?

- Do you think it is reasonable to judge someone primarily based on allegations from their past?

- At what point do you stop hoping for reconciliation and accept that the relationship is probably over?

- If you were in my husband's position, how would you handle losing your parents, siblings, and family business all at once?

Please be honest. I am looking for outside perspectives because this situation has affected both of our lives in ways I never imagined.

Charles not wishing Alexandra a happy birthday? Do you find this strange or am I reading too much into it? I mean it's his first year celebrating his wife's birthday? Yes no?

CHARLES AND ALEX

Am I the only one who doesn't really see the love between Charles and Alexandra? He's constantly surrounded by attention and temptation, so I've always wondered what makes their relationship work and how they've managed to stay together.
