How to set a Hamilton 902B Railway Special 21J

How to set a Hamilton 902B Railway Special 21J

I bought this and it’s beautiful. I wound it and it ticks like magic. I try to pull out the crown to set it and I can’t. Can wind it just fine. Cannot set it.

This is my first nice pocket watch. Do I set it by pulling the crown? Or is there something else I’m supposed to do?

Searching for an intuitive alternative to Ancestry on the Web AND a Desktop solution

Ancestry.com is helpful. It keeps finding family going back generations to Hungary and elsewhere. I'm torn. They found a yearbook picture of my Mom. I know their system did that, but it got me. She died in April, and there she was, a high school junior, involved in a bunch of activities.

I have an Ancestry subscription I want to cancel. But they are helpful.

Years ago, pre-Internet, I made my first family tree using CDs I bought from Sam's Club. Uploaded the GEDCOM to a site that helped me and was "free." I must have clicked Terms. Later, I found out that my family tree on Ancestry, which I now had to pay to view, included specific language I had used. It was my work.

Switching PCs through the years, I long ago lost the GEDCOM I uploaded to that site. I'm glad that the software exported all those records in HTML format. Those names live online, but it's a lot for me to duplicate in another GEDCOM.

It also finds news articles, but that's a separate subscription to Newspaper.com. I guess they're in bed with them too.

I don't like that Blackstone owns Ancestry. I want to get out of it as soon as I can. However, Ancestry keeps finding these ancestors for me.

I see threads like this have gone out before. Most of them are dated now. What about now?

Is there an online solution less expensive than Ancestry that has a similarly intuitive algorithm? What desktop solution would the group recommend now?

Moderately priced first pocket watch recommendations

I have a fascination with mechanical pocket watches, although I’ve never owned one. I would like some recommendations on a watch or watches I can purchase and hand on to my son and grandson when I’m gone. Now, I’m not planning on moving on soon. I’m only 63, but, as my mother died in mid-April, I’m considering my legacy. I am not looking for anything incredibly expensive. Just a solid timepiece that will keep ticking long after I’ve stopped.

M51 with Seestar S30 Pro

This was last night at the Conwayt Observatory in Lowell, IN, with my new Seestar S30 Pro. Little thing. This was a 15-minute exposure. I'm out to photograph the sun now. The device has a sun filter. Will also do a video of the sun and then learn the beginnings of "stacking." Tips on inexpensive or free software?

The Seestar S30 Pro stacks deep-space photos but not Solar System planets, the Sun, or the Moon. That Seestar scope tracked, captured, and stacked these images over 15 minutes.

Is this a real Casio? WVQ-M410-7AJF Solar Atomic Radio-Controlled

I received this today from an eBay seller. However, after buying and returning a Seiko Mod watch without knowing what Mod meant, I have to ask about this. I cannot find the model number on Casio’s website, USA or Japan sites.

The box and everything inside says Casio.

Cannot set day of week or month on Calendrier BU0054-52L

First, I bought the watch because it’s stunning. However, following the directions, pulling the crown out to spot 2, the only thing I can adjust is the time. I was able to change the date and moon phase. However, hitting the month button does nothing. The watch is only supposed to allow for setting the time if you pull the crown out to position 2 when the second hand is on zero. Doesn’t matter where the second hand is. Can only set the time.

Any tips?

Came new in the box with the tag still on and the band still wrapped in unbroken cellophane from Jomashop.

Such a pretty watch should be radio controlled

After seeing $6 atomic watches at Walmart (I know this is not apples to apples), I’m convinced that Citizen should make all of their watches radio controlled. This one, model BU0082-06P, a Calendrier, is absolutely stunning. I’m simply spoiled, and holding back because I have to set it myself. I know that’s ridiculous. But, what a bigger edge Citizen would have if the company dropped radio control technology into all of their watches moving forward. They already have a genius power solution in Eco-Drive. I’d love to see it all there.

My first Citizen!

Arrived today, purchased from Amazon. Ditching my Apple watch for this. Wobbly hands took took the pic.
