I'm not enjoying my life due to constant stress

Im a 29 year old MLE (Machine learning engineer) at Meta and my life has been quite dark for the past 18 months. I work on developing AI models daily and i see where this going which is removing the need for human labor and i see how successful it is. Im living in a zombie state where I don't know what to do with my life as there is no plan b and i feel so guilty to do anything remotely costly such as vacation, some nice dinner, upgrading my car because I don't know when i will be out of job and if i can get a new job. My experience in this industry and how the tech giants spending their money is telling me any intellectual job will be replaced even with the current ai models or at best we will see a drastic reduction in human labor. I know every person will try to justify that their job involves things that can't be automated or making up excuses as how AI sucks because it made a mistake in one task. We all are coping. People between 25-35 where still haven't fully financially established themselves and have a long way to retirement, how are u dealing with this inevitable death of need for human intellect? Want to know if people have ways to combat this feeling other than " you can't control it so let it go" answer. Yes i can't control it but its my life and youth that is being taken from me.

Driver license stolen in San Francisco

Im currently on a trip in California and unfortunately my wallet got stolen in San Francisco and i have to drive to Vancouver as I drove down. I have a police report and a picture of my driver license and my insurance. I know you have to have the physical drive license but I don't have much flexibility there. What are the chances of an officer letting me go and not impound my car in case i get pulled over. It's not a great thing to do but I honestly have no other option here

PPI for a 2025 M4

I’m shopping for a G80 M4 and wanted to sanity-check something: is it reasonable to ask a dealer if I can take the car to an independent mechanic within a 4–5 mile radius for a pre-purchase inspection? The ones I’m looking at are 2025 models, 8–13k miles, around $80k.

Would it be a red flag if a dealer refuses? I get that it’s a lot of money on their end too, so they might be hesitant, but it’s a lot of money for me as well, and I won’t feel comfortable buying without an independent mechanic signing off first. Would appreciate any data points from people who’ve done this

Am i missing something with second hand prices?

Im in the market for a g87 m2 and looking on autoTrader all i can see is in mid 70s. Im looking for a below 15k miles and carbon fiber roof and buckets and auto transmission. When i built on w website it would be 78500 and the dealer mentioned i can get my car by late November. Im just wondering why a car that is 2 years old and has less options is similar in price with a car that i can easily buy from a dealer for couple months of wait ? Are people that desperate that cant wait 4-5 months and are willing to pay such a premium for a second hand car ?

Insurance for a Canadian car

I have a fairly expensive car that I bought last year in cash in Vancouver and I really can't sell it as i will lose alot of money. I have gone through many posts and it seems like state farm and geico do insure Canadian registered cars. Could someone please let me know how this works? Does it mean i don't have to have an insurance with ICBC ? Or i have to keep both and do i have to get a in-state driver license or will my Canadian license be enough?

Has anyone gotten their PERM approved?

I was wondering if there any Canadians on TN who have gotten their PERM approved working in tech. I have heard that perm approval has been in single digit percentage for tech people and i wanted to see if anyone here has been on tn and gotten it without h1-b.

If you share your experience that would be amazing.

What do you guys think about the birthright citizenship?

Given that we’re all on temporary visas, it means none of our kids born in the States will be American citizens. I believe the ruling will come down on Monday, and I wanted to see what you guys think the outcome will be and how you feel about it.
As a Canadian, I genuinely see why so many people are against it, since this happens pretty frequently in Canada too. My wife is a nurse, and she has told me many times about people on tourist visas, or who have come here illegally through the States, who give birth at home and face complications. In one case, someone even died, just so they could have their baby in Canada.

I just wish the ruling were that if you’re in the States in any form as a legal resident and you pay taxes, not just on a tourist visa, then your baby should be considered a US citizen. But the law is also pretty crystal clear that babies born in the country are citizens regardless of their parents’ status.

I have a new offer but a big vest coming up

I recently got a new position at another company and they want me to start early July. The issue is that I have a really big vest coming up mid august and the new position is in another city while im located 5 hours away. Do you guys think its possible for me to work at both for a month and tap into my J1 office in the new city for this 1 month period ? I have 2 weeks of PTO which i can take early august to make it easier on myself but i want to get some feedback by people who have had faced this dilemma and what they have done.

Please dont say to ask my new company to start after August as I have done it and they really want me to start early July so that is out of question.

Tn approval with a computer science degree

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share some good news that i got my TN today with engineer category with bachelor of computer science and born in one of 19 banned countries at peace arch.

The experience was really smooth, officer asked about my role and i told them it machine learning engineer which is a sub speciality of software engineering and i work on infrastructure and model development. They first ask if i have an engineering degree and i mentioned no but once they found out its for machine learning/swe they were like yeah computer science makes sense. They stamped my passport and wrote software engineer at my company for 3 years. They whole thing took 20 min

I got my bachelor from UBC and this is my second tn
