All-Star Superman The Deluxe Edition by shion93

Hello There!

When All-Star Superman was published, it became clear that Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely had created one of the Man of Steel's greatest masterpieces. After decades of writers trying to "modernize" the hero, either by nerfing his powers or making him dark and generic, Morrison did the exact opposite. He embraced the magnitude, the absurdity, and the core heart of the Silver Age in a definitive love letter to the character.

When DC released the animated film adaptation, the reception was mixed. Although it tried to be literal, the direction seemed ashamed of the comics healthy "madness". The movie oversimplified Frank Quitely's highly detailed art style and, worst of all, butchered the story's structure.

With a runtime of just 1 hour and 16 minutes, several fundamental chapters were cut, such as the journey through the Bizarro World and, unforgivably, Issue #10, which is the chapter where Superman prepares his final testament, saves a depressed girl on a rooftop, and creates a miniature universe. Cutting the very heart of the book proved that Warner didn't understand the original material. On top of that, the film carried the melancholy weight of being the final screenplay by the legendary Dwayne McDuffie, creator of Static Shock and the mastermind behind Justice League Unlimited, released shortly after his untimely passing.

To bridge the glaring gaps in the original script, I integrated Motion Comic sequences directly from the comic book pages. Now, essential arcs, such as the Bizarro World and Superman's Twelve Labors, are fully part of the experience. The comic's episodic structure has been reorganized. Instead of feeling like a fragmented, rushed movie, the narrative now has room to breathe and unfolds as a true epic saga in chapters.

I also kept and highlighted the movie's single best narrative choice, which was the alteration to the final scene with Lex Luthor. In the comic, Superman defeats Luthor with a single punch after the villain loses his divine powers. In the movie, after briefly comprehending the vastness of the universe and his own selfishness, Luthor falls to his knees, psychologically defeated. It is a brilliant moment that absolutely deserved to be in a complete version. Additionally, I kept Luthor's final scene with Dr. Leo Quintum in prison.

The result is a massive, surreal, and far more faithful experience. Where the original animation was merely "acceptable", this version completely embraces the beautiful madness and emotion of Grant Morrison's work.

The Dark Knight Extended by shion93

Hello There!
It's been a while since I posted anything, I've been busy these past few months. In the meantime, I've been working on an edition of The Dark Knight Rises, but I started thinking about what a sequel edition of The Dark Knight would be like, including some excerpts from the promotional material called Gotham Tonight, so I started trying to include some of my favorite episodes in the plot, and I think this experiment turned out interesting. In the episode Billionaire Without a Cause, I removed the part that explores the Wayne family because I found it too long and repetitive for a Batman Begins sequel. In the end, this episode will be a bit repetitive in narrative terms. I think it's worthwhile for the character interviews, not necessarily for the plot development. The episodes were added to the first act of the film.
I took the opportunity to add some scenes of the Joker's appearance inside the bus during an explosion. Unfortunately, the quality of these images isn't good, but I think it's worth incorporating them into the final version.
For this project, I used the Vitoencodes edition combined with another edition whose creator I don't know. These editions create a hybrid with IMAX 15/70mm, making the project even more interesting.

🔧 Changes Made

  • Added Gotham Tonight Episode 2 Billionaire Without a Cause.
  • Added Gotham Tonight Episode 4 Top Cop.
  • Added Gotham Tonight Episode 5 Cops and Mobsters.
  • Added Gotham Tonight Episode 6 Gotham's White Knight
  • Added extended scene of the Joker inside the bus after the explosion at the hospital.
