Today I learned that George Benson was the first guitarist to be featured on an original run of a Miles Davis album. It was on Paraphernalia on the 1968 album Miles in the Sky.

My favorite compilation album. After the Rain is just so good and a testament of how Coltrane can switch from balls-to-the-wall attitude to a much more mellow sound.

Hot take: unless your boyfriend is an unemployed bum, it's not really his responsibility to drop everything to pick you up, especially considering he is his own person with his own limited time. It's not easy to drop everything or get up after a day of work just because your gf is feeling lazy

OLFU reputation amongst other colleges

Curious lang paano tinitignan ng other schools ang OLFU grads. Graduating Medtech here with an incoming 1st year brother and gusto ko lang malaman ang tingin ng ibang schools samin especially performance-wise. I had a hard time here and seeing how other people look down on my alma mater made me re-evaluate how I view myself and my intellect especially since some people are under the impression that we are a "diploma mill".

Is jazz the least well-known major genre of music?

With other genres of music, most people recognize the biggest artists, unlike in jazz where anybody not named Louis Armstrong can leave people scratching their heads. For example, in metal most people recognize names like Slayer, Metallica, Pantera, Black Sabbath. In funk people can name Parliament, Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band. In electronic a lot of people know Skrillex, Avicii, Daft Punk. When it comes to jazz most people don't recognize the big players like Coltrane, Parker, and Mingus. Heck, even with popular artists like Armstrong most only know him as the What A Wonderful World singer, not even knowing he is a jazz musician that plays the trumpet and has been active since the 20s! It's not just with the casual person though, even subreddits like r/music practically have no jazz discussions. Asides from the fact that the biggest players in jazz were only active when most of the geriatric people today were kids, what could be the reason for the disconnect between jazz and the mainstream?

Planning to return to the Philippines to take up medschool

Hi! I'm a fresh Medtech graduate from OLFU with average grades (swerte na never naging irregular) but fortunately will be moving to the US this year with my family. I plan on working for 2-3 years to see if I really love my field of work and if I do I intend on spending my savings to fund my entire medschool journey. I'm looking to get into a decent medschool around Manila like DLSU, UERM, UPM (sorry OLFU) but they seem to have very competitive NMAT requirements. What are some tips you can give me that I can integrate into my 2-3 years working as a Medtech so I can have a better chance at getting a competitive NMAT score (stuff like review materials, habits, mindsets etc.).

Today I learned that this album is officially called Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. People always referred to it as Moanin' so I never knew the official title.
