This Laptop has been a Nightmare for me. Need suggestions!
The first month I bought this Laptop (Lenovo Legion 5 15IRX9), I was really glad that I finally achieved this long dream of mine. I always wanted to have a gaming laptop and I got one for 1.10L back in July 2025. The thermals and all were excellent. But just a month after buying it, I realised that the Laptops aren't capable enough to maintain stable "frametime" in games. What we see in the charts comparing Laptop and Desktop Performance is the frame rate which is almost on par between both, but due to weaker RAM Module and CPU in Laptops, there are occassional stutters while playing demanding games. This irked me the most, and I almost decided to sell it in December but chose not to because of the RAM Crysis. I decided to live with it and appreciate the positive side- The Thermal Management and Performance.
Unfortunately my hopes shattered just the next month in January when the Laptop started to heat up excessively. The rear exhausts of the Laptop gave up and stopped blowing air out. Everyone I contacted including Lenovo, Legion Owners and all blamed the Laptop and me. So assured that the Intel CPU is the fault, and I don't understand thermal physics. Everyone told me that the rear exhausts are supposed to blow lesser air out compared to the sides. I dealt with this mess for 4 months until I got the Heat Sink replacement in April, and woila! The rear vents started blowing air out and even more than the sides. The service guy who earlier claimed that I'm being delusional was surprised as well. I was all thrilled again that the greatest worry of mine has vanished and decided to just get out of this mess. I GAVE UP ON GAMING. In this last month, all I used the Laptop for was watching 1-2 hour movies once a WEEK and nothing else. It was just collecting dust.
Until just a week back, I opened the Laptop lid and its Y Button came off. This is shocking considering this Laptop costs a lakh and this type of imperfection doesn't even exist in budget Laptops.
The keyboard itself seems perfectly fine, except that the Y keycap popped off on its own, and the hinge appears to be broken.
I visited the service center, and they’re now suggesting a full keyboard replacement and they have already ordered a new one. But when I bought the laptop, it was advertised that keys are swappable, and now the technicians say key swapping is not possible. But I'm sure that the keys are swappable on this model.
Replacing the keyboard is a complicated process, and I really don’t want to risk any other issues.
I’m thinking that once the replacement keyboard arrives, I could ask the service center to just swap the Y keycap from the new keyboard onto my laptop. Is it possible? The service guy says it's not. I have a 15 year old HP Laptop whose buttons broke in a similar manner just 6-7 years back and it was suggested to replace the keyboard. Can't believe we have a latest Laptop in 2026 suffering from the same fate.
You guys have helped me out in the past as well, and I will appreciate any suggestions.
