Meet Meiji, our indoor cat with a growing love for outdoor walks

Hi everyone!

My family and I recently adopted a 1.5 year old seal bicolour Ragdoll named Meiji, and we couldn’t be happier to have him in our lives.

We’ve only had him for a short while, but he’s already become such a big part of our daily routine. He’s a quiet, gentle boy and we are slowly building up his confidence on outdoor walks.

We started an Instagram account (@littlemeijichan) as a way to document his adventures, milestones, and all the little moments that make us smile. It’s essentially a digital diary of life with Meiji.

If you’d like to follow along, we’d love to have you there. And of course, we’d love to meet your ragdolls too, so feel free to share them in the comments!

Hi everyone, looking for some advice as a first-time cat owner.

I recently adopted a Ragdoll, Meiji, about a week ago. He’s 1 year and 6 months old. He settled in quite well overall, he’s very affectionate and calm, and he only meowed during the first two nights after coming home but has been quiet since.

The adoption centre told me that his biological brother (same age) and a female cat they described as his “girlfriend” (1 year and 4 months old) are also still available. Now I’m wondering if I should consider adopting one of them as well.

A few things I’m unsure about:

  1. How can I tell if my cat is actually lonely, especially since he seems quite content and affectionate so far?

  2. Would it be better to adopt his brother since they grew up together, or consider the female instead?

  3. If I wait another year or so before adopting one of them, is it likely they would still recognize each other, or would that bond be gone?

Since I’m new to owning cats, I don’t want to rush into getting a second one unless it’s genuinely beneficial for him. At the same time, I don’t want him to be lonely if he would thrive with a companion.

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences or advice!
