How to safely format console with Aroma installed?

Tldr: Can I format a console with aroma without issue? What if I uninstall payloadloader first? Is there another way to get to the NAND backup screen then wiiuexploit.xyz Run Exploit + holding B, or is there a reason doing that causes my console to freeze without fail?

Hi everyone! So I’ve recently purchased a preowned WiiU and planned to mod it. However I found I was beat to the punch and the previous owner already did (also installed 3D printed joysticks it seems-? Not sure what’s up with that I’ll need to get thumb grips) it seems to be aroma too so that would be convenient. I really enjoy setting up a console from scratch though- it’s one of my favorite parts of a getting a new console. So I just wanted to know if it’s possible to safely format the WiiU with Aroma installed. If I were to uninstall payloadloader first, would it effectively be stock without any cfw or homebrew on it? I wouldn’t mind that and having to redo it, it’s pretty fun to setup. It’d let me make my own NAND backup of the console pre-cfw, which I think would be smart to have.

Also- speaking of NAND backups- is wiiuexploit.xyz Run Exploit + holding B the only way to get to there? I’m not sure if it’s because aroma is already installed, my timing is off, or something is wrong but whenever I try to do that it always freezes on the white screen with WiiU on the bottom right corner.

Inside of my Denon DRM-740 looks different?

First picture is my deck, second picture is the deck from an online guide. Third picture is my deck again to prove it’s a 740 lol

So- I just purchased a Denon DRM-740 off of marketplace for $125. I was really excited because it’s a 3-headed deck and I’ve been really wanting one to get into cassettes with since I heard how those are much more preferred. However, I’m running into an issue where when I’m recording the deck is unable to pick up anything off the tape. I’m not sure if it’s the record head not working, or the playback head only when recording. I did manage get it to work when I turn one of the wheels like in a video I found so I’m pretty sure it’s the belts like it was for him.

However- upon opening my deck I’ve noticed the inside is different than the inside in the video? Or the inside in any of the videos for that matter- not just some small differences either the boards looks completely different and mine has fewer cables. They’re both still Denon though. What could be the reason for this? It’s really weird and I’d be surprised to hear this is normal- The exterior sure looks like the same 740. If it turns out to be a different model on the inside, does that mean I should try to order the belts for the cassette mechanism of the interior deck instead of the 740 belts? But when I try looking up the part numbers of the boards on deck it says they’re still 740 parts- this is the weirdest thing.

Polymorphic relationship options for PostgreSQL DB?

I’m trying to create a database that would involve a table referencing one of multiple other tables. From my research it sounds like this would be a polymorphic relationship, but I’ve been seeing a few different options for implementing it and I’m not sure what would be best. These are what I’ve seen so far, so let me know which sounds best, but please let me know if you know of a better one.

The Database: The short and sweet of it is I’m making a database to store diary entries. Each diary entry uses fields such as date range of referenced event, tags (through many to many), etc. Each entry is either done as a video, an audio recording, or a text entry. Each of these entry types would also have their own respective metadata such as video setup or audio setup. Because of that, I thought the best option would
be to separate them into their own tables.

Option 1: Table Type Field - in the diary entry table, have a field for the type and a field for the foreign key, but don’t actually make it a foreign key. Instead setup a trigger to manually enforce referential integrity by checking that the referenced entry exists in the corresponding type table when inserting. I think I’m leaning towards this one the most. Since it’s closest to what PHP Laravel does.

Option 2: Multiple Nullable Foreign Keys - In the diary entry table Have a foreign key for each entry type that references the respective table, but they’re nullable since only one would actually be used for each entry. Add a constraint to check that one of the fields isn’t empty when inserting a record. This apparently might take less storage than having a varchar type field, though that might be splitting hairs.

Option 3: Table Inheritance - I haven’t done as much research into this one so I don’t know what the structure would look like exactly. But apparently PostgreSQL supports table inheritance like with Object Oriented programming. So it would be something like the diary entry table is the base table, and then each entry type inherits from it and adds their own metadata fields. The reason I’m hesitant to do this is I don’t want to permanently lock myself into Postgres, I want the ability to upgrade and changes engines and I’m not sure how hard that would be if the other engine doesn’t support inheritance. For a similar reason I’m using “period start” and “period end” fields for the date range of an entry instead of the Postgres date range data type.

Option 4: Entries Types Reference Diary Entry - Again I haven’t looked into it much, but I saw it mentioned I could reverse the relationship and instead have each entry type reference the diary entry record it belongs to with a foreign key. I’m not sure yet if there’s any additional complexities are requirements that I would have to implement to make it safe.

Did not know what this was originally!

I bought this plant a few years ago from a university botany sale for a few dollars when it was just 2 leaves ! I’ve had it on my desk ever since and it’s slowly taken over a lot of space- I had no idea what species it was though and was very surprised, and eager, when I saw a small bump made of smaller bumps that gradually spread out and eventually bloomed into this beauty! The petals are so soft but I’m scared of touching them and hurting it- A friend sent me a post with a spreadsheet of the smells which was how I found this sub. It’s lovely to meet everyone! Honestly I was surprised in the comments when everyone was talking about how nice theirs smelled- I don’t know if it’s just my nose or if it’s my plant but the smell is incredibly strong but a bit- well I don’t know how to describe it but I was a bit turned away. It’s almost like an earthy smell that’s so rich it’s overpowering- but I’m very happy with them, I called them star flowers at first when I didn’t have a name because just before blooming they reminded me of tiny paper stars.

How to move user profiles / saves to new console?

I’m buying a WiiU for my apartment, and I really want to transfer my user profile and it’s save files from the family WiiU to mine. However the official system transfer method transfers ALL user profiles, and then it reformats the original WiiU. Are there any recommended methods for me doing this? Such as home brew apps or plugins? Even something like copying all of the contents of the source WiiU to the new one (without deleting anything from the source) and then deleting the undesired profiles on the new one.

How are recommended calories calculated?

I’m starting to use this app and it’s amazing for helping me understand my nutrient intakes and how I need to adjust what I’m eating. But I’m surprised by the number of calories it recommends to me- originally I used calculator.net for to know how many I need to maintain my weight, and for my demographics (5’8” 23y/o male weighing 150lbs. I have an office job.) it said 1980 calories. This was using the Mifflin St Jeor equation.

MyFitnessPal quoted a paper that also recommended this equation, for their reference for how they recommend calories. However they’re suggesting 2,310 calories for me- I checked and all the demographic stuff looks to be the same so I’m not sure where the discrepancy is coming from. It doesn’t seem like a huge difference but it can still be the difference between weight loss and weight gain.

Which would be closer to my real calorie goal? And why is the other so off?

How did Gangle get into the circus?

This is something I’ve been thinking about- Pomni says she was exploring an abandoned building, and I think we can assume that was the case for all of them after the initial cast of C&A staffers. (I’m surprised Ragatha was doing that, but it’s still reasonable) But since they make note in episode 9 that Gangle’s irl counterpart recovered well from the accident, that makes me think she was still recovering when she joined the circus? But what was she doing exploring an abandoned building with serious car accident injuries- do you guys think she was recovered well enough to be doing that for fun? Or was there another reason for her to be there and put on the headset?

Edit: I had always just assumed the building with the brain scanner was abandoned by the time Caine created the circus, and that was the state all of the circus members starting with Ragatha found it in. It’s really fun to hear others theories and thoughts though!!

Beginner recommendations for creating video archive centered DB

TLDR: What all layers and parts would I need to implement to create a database management system for storing video journals with metadata? What tools and packages should I use to help?

So to try to summarize this, recently I’ve started recording video journals. I’ve had the thought to create a database for storing them as a personal project, alongside meta data (that I already have figured out for the most part) for making them easier to search, and complementary content such as a text transcription, and relevant pictures, shorter videos, and text files. As a CS student I’ve taken a database development and management course and data warehousing course, however these mainly focused on the structure of databases and warehouses and didn’t go much into how to actual create and access them. Don’t worry I’m not looking for detailed step by step instructions on how to setup each part of this. What I’m really looking for is recommendations and suggestions for what layers and parts I would need to make for a good database management system, as well as what tools, packages, and whatnot I would need to do that. As well as maybe where I can go to learn how to use them to do what I want, and especially examples I can look at to get an idea of the structure I need to make and how to do it. Basically stuff to get me started, because right now I feel rather overwhelmed and lost, and I don’t even know what I don’t know.

For the overall structure, I like the idea of having the database itself, which you submit to, search for, and retrieve entries from using an API service. I’m already learning Django and FastAPI at my internship. So I thought I could use FastAPI to make the API service, and DjangoORM to define and manage the database. As for interfacing with it, I like the idea of having a separate website which makes use of the database API, and I could go ahead and use normal Django for that. A relational database is likely what I’d like to stick with, since I have the most familiarity with it. And to that end, I was thinking of using MySQL? It seems like it’d between that or Postgres, and I thought since it’ll be fairly small and it would only be me (and maybe a few other people) using it MySQL would be able to handle it.

The database itself probably wont get larger than 100,000 rows, so could all easily fit on one device. But considering how much additional storage the video entries and supplementary files would take up, I’d need to be able to scale the storage space it can access? I’m not sure the proper way to retrieve the correct video file for a specific entry, but I have to assume that has to do with how I separate the storage of linked media files, and how I scale it all. Maybe docker containers when I need to add new servers for more storage, so I could easily spin up instances. I’m going to assume the best way to reference the videos in the database is just to rename each video file into its UUID, or should I use a different naming convention and then have a table that translates the UUID to the video name? Also I’d want to implement access control to an extent, so I could do things like give people access, but they can only view certain videos depending on the access level for their account, which would be tied to their API key.

It’s probably worth reiterating that this is a personal project, not some professional software. In fact I want to try hosting it all at home homelab style, except for maybe some redundant backups (which I need to figure out how to setup-). So I’m sure there’s some things don’t need to worry about for this scale of a project, such as load balancing. Still, if nothing else but for learning purposes so I can talk about it in interviews I want to make this good and clean.

Thank you so much for any advice can offer, I’m really excited to work on this!

Video recording software that also creates transcriptions?

Hi there, trying to find a good subreddit to ask this question. if it isn’t this one, or there’s another one I should cross post to, please let me know!

I want to record videos, and currently use OBS to that extent. But I would also like to create transcriptions alongside them, and have them exported as a separate text document or something. This might sound strange but I just would like to have them so I can easily read over what the content of the video was like and maybe even set something up so I can search for a specific video based on its content. Is there a single piece of software for computers that you’re able to both record from an external camera with, like how you can with OBS, while it also creates a transcription you can save separately? Or is my best bet just to keep using OBS and instead to generate the transcription separately using some other piece of software or service? It’d just be nice to have one piece of software that does it all, so I can have a nice and easy pipeline. Thank you for any suggestions!

How much is worth paying for sub optimal decks?

Like the title said, how much should I be willing to pay for dual decks with auto reverse and 2 heads? Or with some desirable features but not others? I’ve really been wanting to get a tape deck to record my playlists onto tapes, and I was hoping to find one in a thrift store but I haven’t had much luck so far. So I’ve been stalking Facebook marketplace, but all the ones that are under $100 are as I described above, and people are asking for $60+. From what I’ve seen on this sub so far that feels like more than I should pay? How much should I be willing to pay to settle for a deck of that quality? Is it just worth waiting and continuing to visit thrift stores and check marketplace regularly?
