Recon in the Alps

October 17th, 1920

“It's already freezing cold up here in the Alps, and it's only October! We've been here for only three days and it feels like eternity. We were sent on a mission to obtain information on any Jötunn units in the area, and report our findings to the neighboring camp. That's where our officer in command is still held up.

As soon as we came to our site, we spotted a den below us. It was a horrifying thing to look at. Bones everywhere, and the whole thing gave me trouble breathing just by observing it. At first we weren't able to spot any of those damned monsters, so we just started our routines. Wake up, report to guard duty, at lunch get replaced so you could stuff some of that poorly made goulash down your throat. Then after a quick break, back to guarding again. It was as boring as it sounds. The nights were the worst. It was so cold that even if your mind wanted to sleep, your freezing body didn't allow it.

Then, on the third evening, the situation quickly became tense, as we spotted those monsters coming out of the den. From afar they looked like midges, the lowliest of the low in their chain. Nevertheless, they were still dangerous if not careful. Imagine a scorpion the size of a man, just with impenetrable armor plating and giant claws. Stuff of nightmares.

We quickly gave the signal to the officers' camp. Using light flashes we gave the information using morse – 3 midges, no other Jötunn spotted.

Now we stand ready, so that when our orders come, we can deal with this vermin as quickly as possible, before any reinforcements arrive. But for now we just wait and wait...”

Lore: Hollow Hounds

Often, people blindly trust friendly looking individuals. And that blind trust is what currently poses as an enormous threat to the human civilization.

A single human arrived at a military cruiser in an escape pod. Trembling and soaked in blood. Everyone was wondering what had happened to the poor soul. As he slowly calmed down, he started talking:

They came out of nowhere, resembling us in appearance. Without a slight doubt, our commander trusted them, inviting them over to our vessel. I got a good look at one of their ships, and it was huge, heavily armored and you could smell death just by looking at it. Even their appearance, they looked like us, but their eyes looked empty. And we soon felt our error. Inviting them over was a mistake that cost us everything. The crew started disappearing one by one, no trace left of them. And as we realized that it was the "new humans" at work, they revealed their true image - canine like, standing on 2 legs, each one taller than 2 meters, with empty eyes and long claws, that were soon soaked in blood.

We retreated and started fighting back, hoping to survive this nightmare. The battle was dragging on for a few days, with fewer survivors each hour. And as we were hiding in the cargo bay, a crew member started mumbling. I moved closer and heard he was talking about these devils. He heard stories from older star travelers, telling about a race so focused on war and destruction, that the trail they leave behind is only blood and death. He referred to them as The Hollow Hounds, which was the name that the humans have given them. They are a xenos species, originally named Khor'Vaal, from the planet Nys-Khor. It was the first time I heard of that planet, and I know the star maps pretty well.

The crewmate reffered to them as an ancient civilization, millions of years old. Their entire culture is focused only on war and death. They evolved their hunting method into a truly horrific one - they can shapeshift, and hold that image for years. It all depends on the hunt and the target civilization. This sent shivers down my spine.

I escaped only by sheer luck. As my teammates were being torn apart, I Slipped into an escape pod and just launched myself, hoping for the best. It was all I had left. And now, I have to warn the others, because if we are the prey of these ancient hunters, we are certainly doomed.

*The models in this post show the basic canine form of the Khor'Vaal, the bigger units are equivalent to humans' mechs and tanks.*

Battle report: The Children of Jötunnheim on the attack!

The Children of Jötunnheim (black, green and violet units - later referred as CoJ) invaded an island of Coalition supporters (black & yellow). Their mission was the destruction of the islands defenders and ultimately the occupation of those islands residents, so that they too will join the cult!

The battle started quite aggressively, with the CoJ managing to destroy the only tank the islanders had. The islanders retaliated, destroying the CoJ brassbounder as it was trying to take down islanders units. But the CoJ had a strategy, to keep the distance with their heavy war machines and rain fire onto their foes - which in the end left the islanders only with the last rifle squad.

In their last effort to deal as much damage as possible, the squad decided to run to the nearby CoJ tank and use grenades to blow the tank up along with themselves. Needless to say, the action was quickly shut down, and the cult expanded their influence!

Along the battle, CoJ also managed to capture all 3 objectives (the artillery piece middle left, the mining equipment top left and the remains of a fallen brassbounder top right).

Some mechs I made, the first one has no callsign yet, the dark red one is Goliath and the one with the sword is Ronin :)

Second miniature I painted - was supposed to be another mech from the tabletop wargame Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn, but the 3D printer messed up, so it became a piece of terrain (a fallen brassbounder).

Feedback on this miniature? It was my first time painting a miniature :)

Also the model is from a mech i created for the game Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn. It uses lego models you make yourself (its encouraged to make your own versions), so I turned this model into a 3D printable option. As i stated, first time painting a miniature, so any feedback is welcome!

Edit: The callsign of this Brassbounder is Ronin.

Made a battle scene, depicting soldiers of the Coalition firing into an enraged Jötunn. The scene is inspired by the lore of the tabletop wargame Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn (or rather the history/prequel of the current events in the lore). Made it in Bricklink Stud.io 🙂

The war against the Jötunn was tough, but the new rifles helped the infantry to stand up to the monsters!

Made in Bricklink Stud.io, the MOC depicts a battle between a Jötunn and a unit in a trench.
