Worried I've been underfeeding my baby?

Hi everyone! I have a 3 month old little girl who is exclusively breast fed. She normally takes one breast for 8-12 mins then appears satisfied or falls asleep (every 2 ish hours during the day and 2x wakeups at night). I've been told previously by a LC that I have an oversupply and gave me techniques to reduce supply.

We saw our GP paediatrician and saw that she has dropped in weight from the 99th to the 73rd and the height and head circumference has dropped also. He said may be catch down growth but to try giving top ups with EBM.

I've started giving both breasts and giving top ups and she's taking up to 90ml of EBM!

It's made me feel awful as it seems she is still hungry despite not giving feeding cues?

Does anyone have any insight to this? Will a baby take a feed even if not hungry? How can I be sure she is feeding the right amount and is full?

For context she is otherwise developing normal and has good wet nappies.

Link between atopic dermatitis and food allergies?

Hi everyone!

My 3 month old has eczema for which I've seen a paed for. I queried whether a food allergy like CMPI may be contributing, and he has told me there is 'no direct link' between food allergies and eczema.

There seems to be some conflicting evidence on this and I wanted to know what others thought on this?

Recommendations on an affordable civil lawyer in Perth?

I'm looking for some recommendations for a civil lawyer in Perth to help with legal advice for a tree dispute with a neighbour.

Unfortunately our income is beyond what the legal aid considers to be low enough for their services.

Anyone had any experience?

How the hell am I supposed to be finding time to exercise?

I'm nearly 3 months post partum and barely have my life together with a new baby, and my physio has told me I need 30 mins of exercise daily.

How does anyone fit that in?

I've tried walking which I can occasionally get the time to do. Ive tried at home yoga and pilates - but I barely get 10 mins in before baby needs something.

Is there some sort of magic to this?

Found mould on babies mattress - do I need to be worried?

Today I found this growing at the underside of my babies bassinet mattress (she is 2.5 months old)

Mattress is thrown out now, but does it look concerning? Do I need to be worried about health issues caused by it?

I know for sure was not there 2 weeks ago when I flipped mattress

Found mould on babies bassinet mattress and now I'm super anxious!

Hey guys I have a super refluxy 2.5 month old baby who constantly spits up and wets her mattress.

I changed her sheets today and noticed a large amount of grey spotty mould all over the underside!

I know it was not there for sure 2 weeks ago, and i didn't notice it when I changed sheets a week ago.

I've obviously thrown out the mattress and moved her now to her cot. But now I'm super anxious about any lasting affects from mould

Anyone experienced the same? Do I need to worry about long-term health issues from this?

She does get congested and sneezes but that has been since she was born.

Should I try block feeding?

Hi everyone, I've been recommended to try block feeding by a breastfeeding counsellor but I just wanted some advice to see if it's the right way to go!

I have a 10 week old bub, previously seen a LC for oversupply and a fast letdown causing coughing / spluttering and gas. I was told to reduce amount I was pumping in addition to posture feeding.

Now have reduced pumping amount to only relieve engorgement ( about 100ml in a 24 hr period)

Baby has recently started crying and becoming distressed more with feeds, and reflux / vomiting has become a lot more in volume and frequency.

I've been told now baby has been dropping in weight (99th to 73rd centile), as well as dropping length and head circumference.

I've been told by a breastfeeding counsellor to try block feeding, but everything I've seen suggests to avoid doing this if baby not gaining weight well.

Anyone have any advice? Does it sound like block feeding would be helpful in my case?

Wearable breast pump recommendations?

Currently I have a single older model medela swing pump - it's not bad but is quite inefficient at getting volume and obviously not hands free unless you're wearing the pumping bra.

I'm interested in getting a wearable pump for when I return to work and wondering if anyone had recommendations on decent models?

Concerns about health issues with birds and a baby in the house?

Pic of my boy Pickle for attention

Hi everyone!

I have two cockatiels I've had for 8 and 5 years. They are inside boys and their cages are in the main living area of our house ( we have a small unit so only one living area and no other options for them to be situated. They are not outside birds and id be worried about keeping them outside due to other birds )

We recently have had a baby and in true first time parent fashion I'm having a bit of a crisis worried about her respiratory health.

My birds don't have contact with others so I'm not terribly concerned about psittacosis but I am worried about asthma and worse yet bird fanciers lung.

We have gotten a large air purifier but their dander is pretty hard to control

Has anyone had issues with their children having lung issues from birds? Or better yet anyone raised a child in a similar situation and not had issues?

Is there anything more I can be doing to control the dander or any other tips?

I [30F] completely dropped the ball on my husband's [30M] birthday and want to know how to make it up to him?

I am [30F] and my husband is [30M], together for 11 years. He had his 30th birthday mid April this year and I feel guilty for barely organising anything.

For context I was pregnant at the time (actually was due late March but ended up being overdue and gave birth early April). I spent his birthday being induced and gave birth early in the morning of the next day, 11 days overdue. So obviously I couldn't have organised anything given the uncertainties around the time so we really ended up doing nothing at all to celebrate (except a cake the night before with my family).

I had some ideas in mind about a gift - but like I do every year I asked him what he wanted. About a month before his birthday his gaming headphones broke and needed new ones. Great! I can get him nice new ones!

Being a personal thing I wanted him to pick something out himself so I can get it for him. He ended up waiting only until the week of his birthday to do so. He went to the electronics store, saw what he wanted was on sale and instead decided to buy it for himself. He sprung on me a couple days before he actually didn't want headphones anymore for his birthday since he now bought these for himself.

Being a couple days before birth and being very heavily pregnant I wasn't able to get out somewhere to organise a gift for him. So I told him we would sort something for him after his birthday at some point.

After the very difficult birth I had and with early time of having a newborn I think the idea of getting something for him or celebrating his birthday slipped my mind and became less a priority.

It came up in conversation today that he feels I completely dropped the ball with his milestone birthday. That it was a bit lazy of me to just ask him what he wants rather than getting something special. He also feels that I could have organised something like a special dinner on the night and cancelled if I was giving birth or baby was here by then.

I feel like a crappy and inconsiderate wife for not having done more. Is he justified in feeling this way?

What can I do at this point to make it up to him?

TLDR

I barely organised anything for my husband's 30th due to being very heavily pregnant and giving birth on his birthday.

Now he feels I should have done more and I'm unsure how to make it up to him

Singlets for newborns that slip easily over the head?

I've got a 2 month old baby with a big head who hates singlets! (She even cries when I start getting the singlet ready). Unfortunately given the cold winter and the fact we don't currently have heating, the extra layer is a non negotiable

I'm currently using anko brand ribbed singlets but seem to have trouble getting it over her head. Even tried 00s

Anyone have recommendations for brands of singlets that don't have this issue? Or better yet ones that have a button or press stud to widen the neck?

How much should I expect to pay for legal advice?

I currently have a bit of a dispute with a neighbour regarding a very large tree we want trimmed to make safe, and unfortunately unable to manage to do from our side of the fence. Council has been a bit useless in regards to this so we are hoping to consult a lawyer just for advice at this stage.

Not looking to proceed to legal action yet but we want to protect ourselves in case of property damage in the future.

Hoping would be fairly simple advice and assist us in writing a letter to the owner of the property.

We are locatee in Perth.

Stubborn baby nasal congestion not clearing

Does anyone have any experience how to move very stubborn nasal congestion?.

My baby is 6 weeks old and has a cold - I had the same cold and had very sticky mucous.

I've been humidifying at night, using saline like crazy and using and electric nasal aspirator.

The aspirator is great for anything in the front of the nose we can see but congestion all seems to be at the back and not accessible

Baby not sleeping at all since she can't breathe and hoping to try anything!

Negative gearing question

We as a couple currently have a unit we bought in 2024 which we are currently living in.

Our plan in the next few years is to move on to a larger house and rent out this current unit.

Based on the NG changes - given we bought the property before the new budget and cutoff date, would we be able to NG this property? Or since we bought this not as an investment property but as a owner occupier, would these rules not apply?

Anyone else's baby prefer the bassinet to being held?

My 4 week old is a bit of an opposite baby.

Very happy and content in the bassinet, the pram, on the playmat and the change table, but as soon as I pick her up she gets upset and cries.

I've started to think it's likely her expecting a feed when I pick her up and smells milk, but she also occasionally does it with my husband too. She's a pretty hungry and food focused baby.

She is often pretty content once she has a feed

Am I doing something wrong? Or do other people have opposite Velcro babies?

Medstudy for paeds BPT?

Anyone used medstudy for paeds BPT writtens prep and found the price worthwhile?

Also anyone that does recommend it - online or physical books? I like the format of the online but don't love the fact access is only for 3 years. Although likely will be sitting in 2028 I will be returning to work part time so there's a chance I might push this to later.

Thanks all!

Hi guys,

I'm currently on maternity leave and employed at a hospital with WA health

In our current agreement we need to have permission from employer to be employed elsewhere or locum.

I was hoping in the later months of maternity leave to have the odd locum shift to help boost the income a bit without committing to part-time or full-time work. However, I've heard some other docs having a difficult time with medical workforce in approving this.

Has anyone participated in locum work while on mat leave and how did you approach it? Did it cause any issues with your current employer?

Hey everyone, hoping to get a bit of advice about my options for an unreasonable neighbour in Perth (city of belmont)

We have a neighbour with a very very large eucalyptus tree (fully grown with long limbs overreaching our property). The tree has caused damage to our roof requiring repairs, and regularly cause issues with our gutters. Recently we have had a large 3 metre branch fall into our backyard while I was outside.

We have contacted our council who have done a visual inspection and determined the tree to 'not be an immediate danger to the general public' and therefore is a civil matter.

Unfortunately our neighbour is completely uninterested in engaging with us - they do not answer the door, we have left multiple letters and when we approach them when outside they ignore us and walk away without acknowledging us.

We have even offered to fully pay for any trimming or work that needs to be done.

Is there any options I have at this point? Is there any legal avenues I can pursue?

The damage to property is one thing but I'm very concerned about any injuries a falling branch might cause given we have young children.

Thanks everyone for your advice
