Temporary crown broke and my dentist is out of town until Wednesday

Called my dentist and he is out of town until Wednesday. Said it should be fine as long as I avoid very hot or cold food and drinks...

My new dentist looks like Brady and Gronks secret love child

It is even more striking in person.

Do you get better performance hosting a data bridge on the same sql server you load the data on?

I am making a data bridge that will pull down a few hundred rows every hour from a rate limited server to our local sql server for reporting and other daily use stuff. I obviously have to have a good stable place to put this thing. Would putting it on the same server as the sql instance speed up everything because it doesn't have to traverse the network more, or would it potentially slow it down as it uses more CPU cycles?

What is this old r2d2 looking toy?

Going through some old stuff at my parents. Came across this and can't remember what it is from. Tried looking at GI Joe stuff but couldn't find anything.

Pretty small with the wheels, which can reposition if you want I want. Also has pegs on the rear like another toy could stand on it. I believe there used to be some type of arm or cord that fit into them, but I couldn't find them.

Parking at the field Museum question, which garage is open at 830am?

Parking at field Museum

We have 9am arrival time for the Pokémon exhibit at field Museum tomorrow. They said we must show up at least 10 minutes early, but the east parking garage says it doesn't open up until 9. Both myself and a parent have issues walking long distance without breaks(have handicap placard). The other option listed is the north soldier field garage. It says I should reserve a spot by when I look it says tomorrow is sold out.

So I guess my questions are.

Does the eat garage really not open until 9?

Does the north soldier field garage really sell out like that? Or if we show up will there be open spots?

If neither of those options actually are available, where else near there is to park?

What is the tipping point for using XML/JSON blobs vs Structured SQL?

I have inhereted a DB that is straight SQL. Internally supports ~500 users(maybe 50 or so active at any time). It isn't the fastest thing, but it works.

Should I consider refactoring to use JSON/XML for speed?

The thing that christians can't seem to grasp is that, on some level many of us wish religion was true

On some level, I wish christianity was true. I mean do they think we wouldn't want to live forever in heaven? It mostly sounds great! Also, maybe those who deserve to "go to hell" will actually get their just desserts.

But that isn't how it works. And no amount of wishful thinking will change that.

What were your go-to webcomics?

I loved reading 8-bit Theater and later Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. And of course, Perry Bible Fellowship are all classics.

The Oatmeal

Penny Arcade

XKCD

Dinosaur Comics

Cyanide and Happiness

I mean I had a friend who loved Ctrl+Alt+Del for a bit.

Got a Front Headlight and turn signal error, but then it went away.

Friday we took a quick trip to grab some food and the car gave an error message about a problem with the front passenger headlight and turn signal not working and needed service. It was too late to call, figured we would wait until today. Well today when I went to work the error message was gone in the car and the app.

Should I just shrug and move on?

Migrating Database from On-prem SQL to Google BigQuery PostgreSQL setup. Any pitfalls to watch out for?

Vendor decided for all newer versions of their software, which we need for compliance reasons, will no longer support MS SQL on-prem servers and everything is migrating to BigQuery.

So I need to update all my Custom Views, Stored Procs, reports, dashboards, etc to pull from the new source and handle PostgreSQL(which I have yet to use for a full project before)

Anybody have any tips or things to watch out for with BigQuery or PostgreSQL?
