I've been thinking back to my recent monster of the week game, and how the organizations in it like law enforcement, mafia, and even the shadow government ended up being mostly ineffective against the monsters. I ran them this way because I wanted the players to be the ones to actually be the deciding factor in whether the monster goes down or not, but I feel this approach has de-clawed organizations who the players should be able to respect, even if the organizations can't be the ones doing the hunting. How do you guys handle this sort of thing?

When I run Cain, I'm thinking I want to have a metal bucket where we burn filled talismans or deceased character sheets because I'm really excited about the atmosphere that would create. I'm wondering if any of you do that as well. If you do, what are some ways I can do this without setting my house on fire or building a lingering smoke smell?

Obviously I want to keep a fire blanket/extinguisher on hand, but I can't really ventilate the room as well as I might like. Are there types of paper that have smoke that doesn't smell? Should we just burn them all outside after the session/hunt? I really don't know with this sort of thing.

I mostly ask cause of the last paragraph:

The gm would prepare chests in certain places around the dungeon where you can pick from 3 randomly selected cards from any domain (maybe loosely level gated) and when your party wipes, you reset to zero.

Would this be a fun gameplay loop or do you think it would fight too hard against the system?

The ones I have heard are:
- Ascent: Fight for mid control
- Haven: The attackers want to hit the site with the fewest defenders
- Bind: Strong side plays fast retake
- Icebox: Defenders need to deny the plant

And are any of the ones I listed wrong?
