One week with the AirJet X5, I didn’t expect to like it this much

So a bit of backstory. I spotted the X5 on Amazon and was curious but skeptical. The AirJet
bubble tech sounded like a marketing gimmick but I had to find out. Rather than spend $150/£150
finding out it was a dud, I reached out to Ranvoo and asked if they’d send one over for an
honest review. They agreed, no strings attached.
I’ve been using it as my only toothbrush for a week now. Previously I’d been going back and
forth between a Sonicare Diamond Clean, an Oclean, and manual brushing for a while
because I never really found one I was fully happy with. Until now maybe.

My background with electric toothbrushes
I’ve used a few over the years. The Sonicare for a while, then the Oclean X Pro Elite, and up
until the X5 arrived I was switching between those two and manual brushing because
neither fully won me over. I’ve also used Oral-B rotary brushes further back.

I also tried a Waterpik for interdental cleaning but barely used it because cold water on
sensitive teeth made it painful, so it just sat there gathering dust. That last point is why the
AirJet tech caught my attention in the first place.

Does the AirJet feature actually work?
More than I expected. The most immediately obvious thing is the foaming, toothpaste lathers way more than with any sonic brush I’ve used. It’s noticeably different from the first brush, due to
the air being pushed through the head doing its thing. A week in and my teeth feel consistently cleaner than they did on the Sonicare. I want to be careful about overclaiming after only a week, but
the early signs are promising.

For the interdental cleaning specifically, this is where it gets interesting for me. Because it’s using air rather than cold water, there’s none of the sensitivity that made the Waterpik
unusable. It’s gentler, but more importantly it’s happening automatically twice a day every
single time I brush. Even if the effect per session is less dramatic than a Waterpik, the
compounding effect of doing it consistently twice daily is going to beat something I could
barely face using once a week.

How does it compare to the Sonicare?
The Sonicare had three main issues for me.

  1. I never felt fully confident it was delivering a good all-round clean.

  2. I was also concerned about how harsh it is on gums and whether it could cause them to recede.

  3. The brush heads are narrower so coverage felt lacking and it took longer.

I’d sometimes switch back to manual brushing just to feel like I was actually cleaning my teeth at a comfort level that was gentler.

The X5 feels more like brushing is actually happening. The action is more purposeful and
tactile, closer to the physical scrubbing feeling of an Oral-B rotary brush than the gentle
hum of a Sonicare. Yet thanks to the additional foaming from the AirJet it felt more gentle at
the same time.

The modes
There are four: Foam, Soft, Clean and White. I’ve settled on White as my daily driver as it
produces the most air output and the best foaming. The differences between modes are
subtle and take a few days to feel out.

Some thoughts about future improvements
This doesn’t change my overall view, this is a solid start for a new type of toothbrush and
opens the door for even more innovation in the space. Something I’d like to see is an
alternative brush head where the AirJet outlet is positioned closer to the tip of the bristles,
maybe using a small silicone nozzle within the head to direct the air release right where the
bristles meet the teeth.

Is it worth ~$150/£150?
Definitely, not only is it cheaper than the leading Sonicare models, it’s genuinely innovative and does more.

The home dental market is dominated by a couple of big names that haven’t done anything new in years, and the AirJet X5 feels like actual innovation rather than repackaging the same brush with new
model numbers.

I think the biggest selling point isn’t really mentioned in their marketing, that it’s a great
alternative to the Waterpik. If you’ve been put off interdental cleaning by water flossers due
to sensitivity, this is absolutely worth trying.

I’ll be around in this sub for a while to answer any questions for those on the fence.

TL;DR
A solid brushing experience offering real innovation in a crowded market. The biggest
surprise for me is how well it works as a gentler alternative to water flossers for those with
sensitive teeth. Where a Waterpik sitting on the shelf barely gets used, the X5 delivers a gentler interdental cleaning automatically every time you brush, and that compounding effect twice a day every day adds up to something a Waterpik used once a week can’t match. Definitely worth considering as an upgrade from your manual or sonic toothbrush.
