I heard there’s a new PlayStation coming (PS6?) and was wondering if that would be a good gift, or if there’s something else a serious gamer would be more excited about?

● Where’s the best place to buy it in India or US
● Whether I should wait until November for any new launches

What’s something you’ve come across recently that made you think: “there might actually be a business here”?

I’m 28F, married for 8 months through an arranged marriage. My husband is a year younger. I’m genuinely looking for perspective because I’ve started questioning whether this is an adjustment/maturity issue or a fundamental incompatibility.

For context, I studied in Pune and Mumbai, worked in Mumbai for 3 years, then did my Master’s in International Marketing in the UK. I now work remotely for a US company in brand strategy/partnerships.

My two years in the UK were quite lonely (I’d also just come out of a relationship), and they made me realise you can live in the best city in the world and still be lonely without the right person. So during arranged marriage, I consciously prioritised the person over location.

My husband lives in a tier-3 city. I had concerns about moving here, but I really liked him and his family and believed he was ambitious/entrepreneurial. During courtship, both he and the family connection who brought the proposal said his family was actively exploring new business opportunities and would be open to relocating if the right opportunity required it.

His family has an old, established business financing farmers, started by his grandfather. It’s now largely on autopilot and they’ve intentionally slowed it because a lot of capital is stuck in the market. His father passed away, and his elder brother has a neurological condition and doesn’t work, so I also understand that eventually a lot of the responsibility for the family may fall on us.

My concern after living together is that I don’t see the ambition I thought he had.
His work calls are generally in the morning, he’ll often go to the office around 12 and return around 3, and he says there isn’t much more to do because the business mostly runs itself.

I don’t care about him sitting in an office for 8 hours just to look productive. What bothers me is what he does with all the free time.
We’re talking about easily 6–10 hours of gaming on most days, often continuing until 2/3/4/5 AM.

Gaming itself isn’t the problem. If he were otherwise productive and gamed for fun, I genuinely wouldn’t care.
What scares me is that he says he wants to eventually do something beyond the existing business but doesn’t seem interested in using even 1–2 hours of his free time to figure out what that could be.

I’m not asking him to start a business tomorrow or invest money when their capital is already stuck. But research industries? Meet people? Attend expos? Learn something? Explore opportunities?

I keep bringing him business ideas. He’ll say they’re good, but it ends there. There’s rarely a deeper conversation about the market, competitors, investment, pros/cons, etc. His usual answer is that the market is bad.
Maybe it genuinely isn’t the right time to invest. But you don’t need to invest money to explore what you want to do.

My own routine isn’t traditional either. I work EST hours, usually from around 5/6 PM until 2–5 AM depending on workload. We have household help and I have very few domestic responsibilities, so I’m not judging him for unconventional working hours. I just need to feel like we’re both doing something with our time and building towards a future.

This has also made me rethink the location compromise.
There is essentially no social life here for me or many of the things I’d independently enjoy doing — Pilates, padel, tennis, classes/events, etc. Career-wise, I don’t need to live here. I earn well remotely and could do the same job from Mumbai or another bigger city.

I chose the person over the city.
I’d still happily live in a tier-3 city if there were a reason for us to be here — the existing business, building something new here, some advantage to being here, etc.
But if we’re not building something here, exploring something elsewhere or considering moving, I increasingly find myself wondering: what exactly am I compromising on location for?

I’ve discussed this with him multiple times. He says he wants to do something, but I don’t see it reflected in how he spends his time. He’s also very emotional/insecure, so these conversations often become about me not understanding him rather than an objective conversation about our future.

I’m also starting to resent feeling like I care more about his potential than he does. At the same time, I don’t want to become a wife who constantly nags him, brings him ideas and tries to turn him into someone he’s not.

Maybe he simply values comfort/a slower life while I value ambition and growth. Neither makes someone a bad person, but perhaps it makes us incompatible.

Timing worries me too. I’m 28 and will probably want to think about children around/before 30. Right now we have no kids, few responsibilities, an existing family income/business and plenty of flexibility. To me, this is exactly when we should be experimenting.

Part of me thinks he’s younger and maybe I should give him 1–2 years to mature. Another part thinks: what if I’m 30 and realise I spent two years waiting for a personality trait that was never going to appear?

I’ve started thinking about separation/divorce, which scares me. I don’t want to make an impulsive decision 8 months into a marriage, but I also don’t want to ignore something fundamental.

I genuinely want to see his perspective too. Is there something I’m missing here? Could his family circumstances, losing his father, the current business situation, or simply having a different definition of a good life explain this in a way I’m failing to understand? I really do want to think positively, but right now I’m struggling to.

What I’m struggling to accept is the lack of desire to try.
So I’d genuinely appreciate perspective, especially from people who’ve been married longer:

Am I judging ambition/work ethic too soon after 8 months? Is there a perspective of his that I’m missing? Can this kind of drive develop with maturity, or am I waiting for someone’s fundamental personality to change? And how do you know when something is an adjustment period versus a genuine incompatibility?

This is going to be long, so please bear with me. I genuinely need some outside perspective because I’ve been going in circles in my own head and have even started thinking about separation/divorce. I don’t know whether I’m overreacting eight months into a marriage or whether I’m seeing a fundamental incompatibility that I shouldn’t ignore.

I’m 28F and got married about 8 months ago through an arranged marriage. The proposal came through a known family connection, which was something my family and I preferred.
A little background on me: I did my BMM in Pune, PGDM in Mumbai, worked in Mumbai for around three years, then moved to the UK for my Master’s in International Marketing. I now work remotely for a US company in a brand strategy/partnerships kind of role and work mostly EST hours.
My two years in the UK were actually quite lonely. I’d come out of a relationship just a couple of months before moving there, and that experience made me realise that you can be in one of the best cities in the world and still feel incredibly lonely if you don’t have the right person/people around you.
So when I started looking through arranged marriage, the person became much more important to me than the location.
My husband is a year younger than me and lives in a tier-3 city. Initially, location was a concern, but I’d heard from enough people that in arranged marriage you probably end up deprioritising something—looks, finances, location, family setup, etc.
I liked him, was attracted to him, liked the family and thought he was ambitious/entrepreneurial. I didn’t need some super-fancy life. I thought if I found the right person with a similar outlook towards life, we’d figure out whatever life threw at us.
During courtship, I was told that his family business had slowed down and that they were actively looking for new business opportunities. My husband said this too, as did the family member who brought us the proposal. There was also an understanding that if the right opportunity required us to relocate someday, they were open to it.
So my thinking was: okay, the location may not be ideal for me today, but if the guy is ambitious and we both want to build something, we’ll figure our life out together.
Looking back, I did notice some childlike behaviour during courtship, but I didn’t think too deeply about it.
For context, his family has an old and established business financing farmers for crops. His grandfather started it and is quite renowned in their area. A lot of capital is currently stuck in the market, so they’ve intentionally slowed the business down and eventually plan to continue it at a smaller level. I completely understand being cautious because of that.
His father passed away. His elder brother has a neurological condition, doesn’t work and can also be quite aggressive. At home it’s his grandfather, mother, elder brother, my husband and me.
Given the family circumstances, I actually feel an even stronger sense that eventually the onus will be on us to build a good life not just for ourselves but for the family as well.
They have old money, so this isn’t about immediate financial survival. But you can’t just depend on old money forever either.
Now coming to what is actually bothering me.
For the first two months after our marriage, my husband didn’t go to the office at all. When I questioned it, he said he wanted to make the transition easier for me, which I appreciated.
But we’re eight months in now and I’m realising that this is basically his normal lifestyle.
His work calls usually start around 6/7 AM and go intermittently until around 10 (depending on season). Around 12 he’ll go to the office and usually come home around 3. His grandfather, despite his age, still goes to the office most days and sometimes again in the evening.
My husband says there’s simply not much to do at the office because the business is largely on autopilot.
And I genuinely understand that.
I don’t subscribe to the older-generation idea that physically sitting in an office for eight hours automatically means you’re hardworking. If everything you need to do can be done through your phone in three hours, great.
My problem is what happens with the rest of his time.
We’re talking about easily 6–10 hours of gaming on most days.
He’ll play PS/FIFA through the afternoon, take a break for dinner and then go back to it until 2/3/4/5 AM.
And he doesn’t seem particularly bothered by the fact that his days look like this.
It’s not gaming itself that bothers me. If someone has had a productive day and wants to spend two or three hours gaming, I couldn’t care less. And when questioned he says cause I’m working there isn’t anything else to do? Hello?? Your own life??
What scares me is that this is probably the most free time we’re ever going to have in our adult lives, and he doesn’t seem to have any internal urge to use even part of it to figure out what comes next.
If the existing business doesn’t need much of his time AND the long-term plan is supposedly to find another business opportunity, shouldn’t this actually be the perfect time to explore?
I’m not saying start a business tomorrow.
I’m saying research industries. Read. Meet people. Go to expos. Study businesses. Learn something. Understand markets. Run numbers. Explore opportunities. Spend even two focused hours a day figuring out what you might want to do.
I constantly bring him ideas. He’ll say, “Yeah, that’s good,” and it ends there.
There’s never a deeper conversation of: What would this cost? What’s the market? Who’s already doing it? What are the pros/cons? Could this work from our city? Should we speak to someone in the industry? Or even if sometimes it is it’s super surface level.
His general response to business discussions is that the market is bad.
And maybe he’s right that this isn’t the time to put significant money into something, especially when capital from their existing business is stuck. I’m not asking him to irresponsibly invest.
But you don’t need to invest money to start figuring out what you want to do with your life.
That’s the part I can’t understand.
For comparison, my own routine isn’t conventional either.
Because I work EST hours, I wake up around 10, have brunch, spend some time with my MIL/do my own thing and usually start work around 5/6 PM depending on workload.
I take a long dinner break because that’s essentially my family time. Everyone else lives downstairs while my husband and I have our space upstairs, so I make an effort to sit with everyone, spend time with my MIL and be available if she needs anything.
We’re fortunate to have household staff and my MIL manages most household things, so I don’t have a huge domestic workload.
After dinner, I go back to work and depending on the workload, I finish anywhere between 2–5 AM.
So this isn’t about me expecting a traditional routine from him when I don’t have one myself. I don’t care what hours someone works.
I care about having purpose and doing something with your time.
And the location issue is becoming much bigger in my head because of this.
There’s basically no social life here for me. There aren’t many things I’d normally independently like to do—Pilates, padel, tennis, classes, social events, etc.
Career-wise, I don’t need to be here. I earn well working remotely and could do the same job living in Mumbai or another bigger city.
But again, I consciously deprioritised location because I prioritised the person.
I had lived in Pune, Mumbai and the UK. I knew what bigger-city life looked like. I wasn’t blindly moving somewhere without understanding what I was giving up.
My experience abroad had actually taught me that the best city in the world means very little if you’re lonely. So I thought if I found someone I genuinely loved being with, we could build our life anywhere.
I’d still happily live in a tier-3 city if there were a reason for us to be here. If we built a manufacturing business here because land/labour/economics made sense, amazing. If the existing business grew and required us here, also fine.
But if he doesn’t want to meaningfully grow the existing business, isn’t actively exploring something new, and we’re not moving somewhere with more opportunities either, I’m starting to wonder:
What exactly am I compromising on location for?
And that’s where this has started affecting the marriage itself.
I feel like I was willing to accept location, complicated family dynamics (father passed away, elder bro has neurological situation and doesn’t do anything and is super aggressive) because I really liked the guy and thought: you can’t control everything in life. You choose your person, trust them and figure the rest out together.
But after actually living together, I’m starting to question whether the person I thought I was choosing is actually the person he is.
He is also extremely emotional and insecure. Whenever we talk about these things, it can quickly become about how I don’t understand him or his circumstances.
I’ve tried having this conversation multiple times. He always says he does want to do something.
But I can’t get past this thought:
If you genuinely want something more from life, wouldn’t it show somewhere in how you spend your time?
You don’t need to know exactly what you want. You don’t need to start a company immediately. You don’t need to succeed.
But wouldn’t there be some curiosity? Some initiative? Some restlessness? Some effort?
I feel like I’m constantly bringing ideas and thinking about what he/we could do, and I’m starting to resent that I seem more concerned about his potential and future than he is.
At the same time, I don’t want to become the wife who constantly nags her husband, tells him how to spend his day or tries to turn him into someone else.
Maybe this genuinely is who he is.
Maybe he’s someone who values comfort and a slower life, and I’m someone who needs growth, curiosity and the feeling that we’re building towards something.
Neither necessarily makes either of us a bad person. But maybe it makes us incompatible.
The other thing stressing me out is age/timing. I’m 28 and will probably want to start thinking about kids around or just before 30. I don’t want to simultaneously be figuring out a completely new direction/business and planning a baby.
To me, these are our prime years to experiment.
We have no kids, very few household responsibilities, an existing family income/business, financial cushioning and a ridiculous amount of flexibility.
If not now, then when?
Part of me keeps thinking he’s a year younger than me, maybe men mature later, maybe I should stop pushing and give him another 1–2 years to figure himself out.
But then I think: what if I wait two years and nothing changes?
I’ll be 30, we’ll probably be discussing children seriously, and I’ll have spent two more years waiting for someone to develop a drive that maybe just isn’t naturally there.
And lately that’s where my mind has gone to places that scare me.
I keep getting thoughts about separation/divorce.
I’m not saying I’m going to get divorced tomorrow, and I don’t want to make an impulsive decision eight months into a marriage. But constantly thinking about whether I made the wrong decision isn’t healthy for me or the marriage either.
Sometimes I look at my current life and think: Is this actually my life now? And is this what my future is going to look like?
That’s a very difficult feeling to accept.
I can accept a business failing and working through it (but work or do something about it). I can accept difficult years. I can accept taking risks that don’t work. I can accept living somewhere I wouldn’t have independently chosen if we’re there for a reason.
What I’m struggling to accept is being with someone who doesn’t seem to have the desire to try.
I want to feel like I’m with someone who wants to grow, build and create a better life together—even if it takes us years and even if we fail along the way.
Right now, I don’t feel that.
So I genuinely want perspectives, especially from people who have been married longer or have gone through arranged marriages:
Is eight months too soon to judge someone’s ambition/work ethic?
Can someone genuinely develop that drive as they mature, or am I waiting for a fundamental personality trait to change?
How do I distinguish between someone who is temporarily directionless because life/business circumstances aren’t great and someone who is fundamentally comfortable with a life that I know won’t make me happy?
And for anyone who started seriously questioning their marriage this early: how did you figure out whether you were going through a difficult adjustment period or whether you’d actually married someone fundamentally incompatible with you?

I am emotionally drained - I feel like I spend most hours in a room working remotely with nothing else to do in life and it’s draining me now.
