Dammit
Before I found this sub and learnt, I foolishly stripped this old beast down to new metal. I have deep regrets and wish I could bring back that patina

I'm restoring an old Plumb axe, currently in a vinegar bath, and the cutting edge has a darker section that doesn't seen to be rust-related.
Does anything know what this might be?
I've owned cheapo ones before but I've never restored one. I'm gonna deep dive this sub over the next few days. Also going to look into the history of it
I picked up this big ol' lump of steel to use as a makeshift anvil while I try my hand at blacksmithing.
It has impressive rebound and a file barely marks the surface. It turns out it's some sort of super hard iron. Something called Ni-Hard?
Is this too hard for an anvil? Is there any reason I shouldn't use it?
Scan a toilet, upload it for the world to see. Feels relevant to this sub.
I've been wanting to try making a knife for years now. I've had some old files in the shed just waiting for it.
I modelled it after historical Bosun's knives. There's quite a lot I'd do differently next time but I'm still happy with it.
First time I've made a knife, there's lots I'll do differently but I just wanted to share this here.
My heartrate rises by an average of 30bpm when I stand. I took this ECG on my galaxy 8 watch, it came up inconclusive.
Is there anything that stands out?
I'm wondering if the Kardiamobile 1 lead ECG is more accurate/better than a Galaxy watch ECG.
I believe I'm having PSVT. It happens around once a fortnight and it's unlikely that I'm going to be able to catch it on a 24hr holter monitor.
I would like to at least capture something to show my cardiologist between now and when I see him.
I'm in the market for a smartwatch anyway but I'm wondering if it's also worth spending money on a Kardiamobile?
Long story short I've been doing at-home lay-stand-lay tests with a BP monitor for a few days. Often I get a big rise in HR when I stand, but it doesn't always happen. I also occasionally get a drop in BP but not huge.
I'm trying to understand if these results rule out POTS, or potentially support further investigation.
Symptoms present for six years:
Heart rate while walking around the house is 120-130
Ridiculously fatigued
Sometimes I get dizzy when I stand
Maybe once a week I get so dizzy when I stand that I feel like I'm gonna faint
I get sweating/overheating at random times
Shakey legs if I stand still too long
Can't run to save my life, legs feel like lead after like 20 metres
I'm 32, have controlled type 1 diabetes. I'm 5'6" and 156lb
(Also posted in askcardiology because of the overlap)

Physically fatigued, but mentally energetic

My heartrate often spikes by >30. Sometimes it spikes by 64 (if its early morning), but some days it only spikes by 15 points or less.
I have a lot of other symptoms that align with POTS but I'm wondering whether or not a person with POTS will always demonstrate a heart rate increase of greater than 30 when going from laying down to standing?
Had my worst hypo yet yesterday. Bad by my standards anyway, and today I feel like absolute shit: shaky, weak, exhausted.
Is that a common experience? What do you do to recover?
I have an ecg from quite a few years ago and I'm trying to read it to know what my heartrate was at the time. Is anyone able to read this and tell me?
I'd love to see some glucose charts so I can get a better idea of what sort of control I should realistically be hoping for.
I've seen some here but I'd love some more insights.
Photo of my charts 30 days after diagnosis. Time in range is increasing but damn do I spike and crash
One month after diagnosis and I'm getting tired of the slow progression toward managing
Essentially made a sponge filter from a Pepsi bottle to contain the existing filter media. We'll see how it goes.
If you were back at the start, when you first got diagnosed, what would you be asking your endocrinologist/doctor?
Bonus question: What sort of things would you be requesting?
I've just been diagnosed with LADA. I don't know if I need insulin yet or anything or what comes next. I've got an appointment with an endocrinologist in two days. In the meantime the GP has put me on Metformin 500mg once a day and moving to twice a day after a week.
Bloods at time of diagnosis:
Estimated Average Glucose: 12.2 mmol/L
Blood serum glucose: 11.7
Fasting Insulin: 6 mU/L
C-Peptide Fasting: 0.38 nmol/L
Cholesterol was all in the average range
Antibodies:
GAD 389
IA2: 63.4
ZNT8: 16
I'd love any advice or insight. I'm not really sure what to do or how to feel. I only went to the doctors cos my urine smelt sweet. I didn't really think I'd have this.
Sorry to mope, I'm usually very positive.
Is anyone able to tell me wether these pine cones are young/green enough for me to make Mugolio?
