Phantasy star portable 1 is my introduction to this series and it’s lit.

A game where the gameplay is so good, I don’t even skip the underwhelming story. It holds up pretty well, I think, even now. I’m having more fun with this game than I did with some of the super popular action RPGs on ps4. I can’t believe the game had such mediocre ratings from the western journalists. I didn’t finish it, but personally I would give it a score between 8.5 and a 9. This is mostly due to the satisfying action rpg mechanics. It sits at a 64 from critics and 75 from users. Now I’m starting to realize why so many games and sequels didn’t receive a western localization anymore. This is a real solid game, what were the journos critics were thinking?

The lore and the cinematics in WotC is peak sci fi to me.

I got over a hundred hours in this game and its expansion over a week and I can’t believe it’s more of an immersive sci fi experience than the mass effect trilogy.

At first, I didn’t like the chosen, their counterpart characters that joined my party and the lost because I felt like they didn’t belong in the xcom2 universe. However, I really started to enjoy them. I really got into the flow of what the developers had in mind when they introduced them because of the atmosphere of some maps. I wouldn’t have been able to play it for so long otherwise. The gameplay got tiring considering the amount of hours I put into it in such a short amount of time, but the atmosphere and the writing is what keeps me in.

I’m really looking forward to experience another sci fi like this, so I got xcom1 on steam and I wanted to play it on a Mac with a virtual machine because I don’t own a PC. After waisting a day and half troubleshooting with google’s AI (almost nothing it told me to do, actually worked), I gave up. Might buy a ps3 mostly because I really want to experience the first title. From what I’ve seen on YouTube it’s very similar in style to the second when it comes to cinematics and atmosphere. Not the iOS version though.

My question is, anyone know sci fi games with good writing and atmosphere like this? Preferably RPG but don’t mind the genre if you think it’s really good. I’m willing to try anything, even FPS’s (my least favorite).

PS: I can’t understand why they made Central hotter than Shen

PPS: I’m more straight than an A.P. Round.

2nd crash in a half hour window in WotC. Both times were before the autosave kicked in while having favorable outcomes 😭😭

This never really bothered me til now. This is the 4th crash in this specific map, followed by a lot of frame drops. I payed 50$ for this shi and that’s not even including the vanilla. I really love this game but godamn, why is it so horribly tested on PlayStation? PS5 pro btw

I take back everything I said about xcom2. This is a reallly good game.

When I did my previous post I got quite far into the game without upgrading my armour and weapons at all. I got the point where there wasn’t anything to research anymore, but didn’t buy the upgrades from the girl because I thought they would equip automatically (it’s what the ai on google told me) and I guess I missed the prompt with the instructions first time I’ve played it. Got a game over anyway and when I started it again, it was a completely different experience, as you can imagine. It’s actually gotten quite easy and my favorite part about the game is researching stuff in proving grounds and customizing my characters with the ammo, skills and stats that I want. It’s so satisfying, but so op as well. It’s not the worst tactical RPG I’ve played at all now, quite the opposite 😅, but it’s definitely the worst optimized game I’ve ever played on any console by far. I had 4 crashes just last night and now my biggest adversary is the loading times 💀. I’m playing a ps4 game on ps5 pro and it takes 1 minute on the clock to load a mission. Same with loading saves as well. Anyway, I feel a bad itch of trying to start this game from 0 again after I finish it. Two questions: is there a person here who has NOT gotten a game over when they played this game for the first time? (Not counting if you’ve watched a guide or got told by a friend what to do). The second is: are the DLC’s worth it since they are 2x more expensive than the main game.

Between being able to shoot through thick walls and enemies oneshooting me halfway across the map. This game feels kinda broken.

I just got into this game a few days ago. You have to believe me I didn’t come here for ragebait, but this game, imo, is definitely the worst SRPG I’ve ever played. Don’t know if it’s because I suck, but having 30% accuracy when I’m 2 feet from an enemy is too much. I didn’t have this problem in the beginning of the game, but now I’m struggling quite a bit to get past a mission. Most of the times now I can’t even kill a senior enemy with 6 members in a turn. The aliens one shooting my characters halfway across the map when most of my players on overwatch almost never hit now is kinda of laughable. As far as the tone of the story and the writing goes, they are enjoyable and grounded. The cutscenes are also quite cinematic. I don’t know if it’s because all the other srpg’s I’ve played so far are Japanese, but not having a map or a camera to be able to see inside of buildings and which walls are breakable and which ones I can shoot through is quite a big deal. Also not being able to see enemy’s stats, weapons, gear and how far they’re able to move is a bit hard to get used to. I think I might a game over any way, due to a lack of intel. Any advise on how to get around the accuracy stuff?

I'm undecided as to what my next JRPG should I play. Can you give me a hand and choose one in my unplayed collection?

I will choose the game from the comment with the most upvotes. If I play it and I feel like I can't get into that specific game for some reason, I will choose the one on the next upvoted comment and so on. The only games I've completed already in this picture are Breath of Fire III and SMT: Strange Journey, but that was more than 10 years ago and frankly, I didn't enjoy them that much at the time, hence the reason why I'm willing to give them another chance. Also if your answer is Strange Journey, should I wait and buy the 3ds title or just play this one? What was the most impactful game out of all these to you?

Is Cyber Sleuth the best, worst translated, JRPG out there? Did anyone here completed it in the original Japanese? If so, are there any major differences?

I’m at the beginning of chapter 11 and some heavy shi went down in the previous chapter that almost left me with my jaw in the floor. Loved every minute, well almost every minute. I absolutely adore this kind of art in the environment, the story and the music. I also really dig the characters, especially Nokia because she never fails to crack me up whenever she’s on screen. The others, I feel like are also quite well written and entertaining. My biggest gripe with this game is the writing… I dunno if it’s the thing in itself or the way it shows up on the screen, but it can get overwhelming for me pretty fast. The best way I can describe it is trying and forcing myself to walk at normal pace while in a deep swamp. The game is quite reading heavy and I need a break every 20 minutes. Of course I’m not taking any, but it’s not a pleasing feeling in the slightest after dragging myself through it for a couple of hours. I really wonder if anyone else had this happened to them with this title? In the unlikely case that ANYBODY here has played the Japanese and the English versions of this game, would you mind giving out a summary on the comparison between them and if there are any major differences in the story and how the game plays?

last few battles in the final chapter in storm 3 were probably the worst thing I’ve ever had to do in an ultimate ninja game.

For context, I 100% every ultimate ninja on the ps2 and storm 1. Didn’t get to do it in 2 and managed finish this one… The last chapter after Tsunade’s fight was absolutely atrocious. Not necessarily because of the difficulty, since it became a lot more doable after I used items before the battle but the uninterrupted sequence, along with the terrible gameplay specifically in these battles were awful. Unfair doesn’t even describe it. It’s just really bad. Feels very rushed and like it wasn’t tested at all. The game in general was extremely easy and for some reason they decided to throw that in the last chapter. Many times I got so close to stop playing the game completely and not become a part of the statistic you see in this picture. I don’t know, I don’t really like the gameplay in the storm games too much anyway. None of them surpassed UJ 3 and 5 for me, but the cinematics in this one were really, really cool. Also, the art. Can’t believe I’m enjoying the graphics and the art in a Naruto game so much. I’m playing on ps5 pro, don’t know if that makes a difference, but the games looks gorgeous. Hopefully 4 won’t have anything remotely like this in it.

I modded my 3ds so I can try out games before I actually buy them and to play fan translations. I JUST FINISHED another game (fire emblem revelation (pirated)) without any issues. When I inserted this game I used to get this error when booting it, but now I get it when I’m in the game. Does anyone know if this could it be from cartridge itself or is it a bug from Luma?

u/GoingWithTheFlaw — 4 months ago

I’m near the end of Revelations and I find myself constantly getting hit and my characters killed by blows with 20-30% hit rate, like CONSTANTLY. There was one time 3 characters hit me one after the other with hit rate below 30%. The 50 to 60% feels more like 90-100% IF THE ENEMY DOES IT. Where my characters are concerned the 80-90% hit rate feels like 30-40%. I find it so incredibly ridiculous that I just start to laugh. Like wtf???!! Btw, I’m playing the Undubbed english ver.
