KBeauty alternatives for my medical-grade routine

I use medical-grade products for my heavy-hitters, but I'm trying to tighten up my budget and I recognize that my routine is a bit excessive. I'm loyal to these products because they're tried-and-true, so I'm not looking to replace them with hyped-up TikTok deals.

My skin can handle both physical and chemical exfoliation as well as retinol. Any alternatives for the following products would be appreciated!

SkinMedica Even and Correct pads (glycolic acid)
SkinMedica TNS Advanced serum (growth factors)
ZO Skin Health Wrinkle and Texture Repair (fast-delivery 0.5% retinol)

These are the main products I use in addition to an Olay cleanser and spf 30 moisturizer. I'd also be interested in a product for flaky eyelids and undereyes.

Last visit to the DC store 😥

I live about 2 hours away so when I visit DC I usually make a point to go in, especially if we’re going out to eat in Georgetown. The lovely employee who helped me said she’d only been hired in July and they’re closing the store at the end of the year. I love the vibe of the DC store and everyone there is so kind and helpful.

Of course I can find Glossier in Sephora as TJMaxx, but the store is a different experience. I always grab a few things that are hard to find or shade match elsewhere.

At the end of the day it’s a brand and those come and go, but I’ve gone back and forth using Glossier since the original 3-piece set. I was an avid reader of Into The Gloss and was a fan of super intern Emily. Just some sad elder Millennial nostalgia. Back then it felt like something really for “us” and innovative. Now it just looks like everything else.

What to do with culled products?

I've made my way to a fairly minimal routine (1 small pouch), but I've held onto the rest of my former collection for some reason. Some of the products were lux/expensive brands that I feel guilty about, while others are more seasonal that I keep "just in case".

I can't see myself panning through it because a lot of it just isn't my style or preference anymore. Is it unreasonable to just get rid of these things I've set aside?

20 year old shoes vs. modern version

I’ve worn the orange-laced Merrell Sirens for 20 years. Decided to finally replace because my feet are a little bigger after 2 kids and I prefer to wear thick wool-blend socks with them. Got the new version on sale, but the quality is really poor. No leather, stretchy laces that don’t go to the toe, and they feel narrow. Just feels like plastic on my feet.

Even on sale I don’t think they’re worth it and I’m going to return them.

Add this to my list of rants:
Planned obsolescence
Plastic replacing leather
Apps required for everything
Subscription model
It’s not just nostalgia, things really used to be better

Pros/Cons of a 2022?

A local dealer from whom I’ve purchased before has a 2022 white Carnival LXS with 77k for a good price. We’re in the market for a used car for my son, but this vehicle has me considering buying it and giving him my current 2023 Hyundai Tucson.

We have 2 kids, 3 dogs, and are a travel baseball family, so we’d get plenty of utility from a van. I know this is an early model year, but should I consider it?

Thanks.

Is the steps bonus double dipping?

Lose It seems to really over estimate my steps. My Samsung watch indicates I took 16,382 steps so far today. Plus it gives me a calorie bonus that I think is double dipping from my walking or running workouts. I don't want to have a false sense of more calories burned than I actually did.

Keep or ditch the rental car?

We are visiting right after Thanksgiving and plan to drive down the Keys. We have the car for our entire stay, but I'm wondering if we should just turn it in at the airport and walk/bike/Lyft during our stay. We are staying near the Southernmost point and don't mind walking to get around.

What would the community advise? Thanks.

Not syncing calories burned

When I track a workout using Samsung Health, the activity and duration will appear on Lose It, but not the calories burned. I've checked the permissions on Health Connect and Lose It should have access to this information. I end up having to manually enter the activity again on Lose It to get the calories and it always underestimates.

It just started doing this too. When I re-upped my Lose It subscription it was correctly writing the calories for about 2 days.

What can I do to fix this? Thanks.

I finally put away my rich musks and vanillas. My current spring/summer scents:

Marc Jacobs Perfect (EDP and EDT)

Calvin Klein Escape

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist deodorant (all day every day)

Bobbi Brown Beach
