The algorithm can completely change the mood of your night

sometimes I'll open TikTok just wanting something funny and somehow end up watching sad stories, relationship drama and depressing news for an hour then I close the app wondering why I'm in a bad mood.

Has your FYP ever completely changed your mood?

Why does TikTok make you want to buy random stuff?

I never cared about half the stuff I see on TikTok but after seeing someone use it 3 times I'm suddenly thinking maybe I need it lol. The worst part is sometimes I actually end up buying it.

What's the most random thing TikTok has convinced you to buy?

What's the dumbest thing TikTok made you buy? 💀

I downloaded TikTok for memes.

A few months later I somehow own things I wasn't even looking for because they kept showing up on my FYP.

What's your most regrettable "TikTok made me buy it" purchase?

and this one

What's one thing TikTok made you do in real life?

I never thought TikTok would affect me that much... until I caught myself saying phrases I'd never used before. At first it was ironic, then it just became part of my vocabulary without me even realizing it.

Now I hear the same slang everywhere—in school, at work, with friends—and nobody even questions it.

What's one habit, phrase, or trend TikTok made you pick up without realizing?

Is TikTok changing the way we talk?

I've started hearing people use phrases and jokes that clearly came from TikTok.

Sometimes I even catch myself saying them without realizing where I learned them.

Have you noticed TikTok slang becoming part of everyday conversations?

TikTok is basically rewriting our reality 💀

A song gets popular → we hear it everywhere.

A product trends → suddenly we need it.

A phrase blows up → everyone starts saying it.

And the algorithm keeps feeding us more of what we watch until it feels like everyone thinks the same way we do.

We call it trends, but how much of our everyday life is actually being shaped by TikTok without us noticing?

What’s one TikTok trend that actually changed something you do IRL?

Tiktok being bought by the us messed up the entire app

I am convinced this is all a trope for meta to get the upper hand on everything.. ever since the us bought tiktok your fyp is filled withs lop, no creativity, or any sort of artistic films no more or just feel-good posts at some point it just turns political. Not to mention the absurd amount of Kalshi ads.. instagram, on the other hand, initially had inferior content to tiktok but nowadays with the us trying to mess up tiktok and all it has pre-american capitalism tiktok curation. But it sucks because tiktok used to be amazing, especially in terms of the arts, id say. but now post something like a short film you made and in 2 days youd be happy to get even 5 likes. Not to mention even if the us government bought tiktok, not only americans would be affected because americans contribute heavily to tiktoks content..

Does anyone else feel like TikTok changes you without you noticing?

It starts with a few videos. Then you're listening to songs you found on TikTok, buying products that went viral, using phrases you never used before, and wanting to try trends you never cared about.

The strange part is that it doesn't feel like you're being influenced. It just feels normal.

I like TikTok. I've discovered great creators, recipes, music, and genuinely useful advice because of it.

But sometimes I wonder how many of my interests are actually mine, and how many came from seeing the same things on my For You Page over and over.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just overthinking it?

TikTok disappears tomorrow. What's the first thing you'd miss?

Imagine you wake up tomorrow, open your phone, and TikTok is just... gone

No FYP. No trending sounds. No comment sections that are somehow funnier than the videos

No late night scrolling when you were only planning to check one notification

For some people, it would mean losing their favorite source of entertainment. For others, it could mean losing a business, an income, or even a community they've built over the years

At the same time, maybe we'd all get a little more free time back, spend less time glued to our phones, or finally stop saying "just one more video."

If TikTok disappeared tomorrow, what would you genuinely miss the most and what do you think you wouldn't miss at all?
