Would you trust your baby’s brain to your current thermometer?

A FEVER CAN CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE, PARALYSIS, OR DEATH TO YOUR CHILD!!!

Hey all, I’m just a dad of 11 months here to say BUY A HIGH QUALITY EAR THERMOMETER. When you have a baby, it’s not a question of if you will have a fever scare but when, and when you do, it is so important to have a high quality, ACCURATE, and RELIABLE thermometer. We all know the forehead ones are completely unreliable and the probe style thermometers can be hard to get a good reading unless you do rectal, and even then that can be difficult to keep the baby still to use. I just wish we would have put this Braun on our baby shower registry from the start. Before we were using a $30 CVS brand probe thermometer in our child’s armpit and it turned out it was reading at 98.9 when our son was actually at 101.

We like this one because it’s a well known and trusted brand in in the medical field, and it’s their top of the line consumer ear thermometer, except you’re not paying extra for the Bluetooth app functionality that nobody needs. We just need a quick easy temp reading we can trust.

Fishpond Dakota vs. Orvis Carry-It-All

I’m comparing these two cases for air travel and just storage of my small quiver of rods and reels. The fishpond seems to have a big edge on construction, materials, and exterior pockets, as well as being $50 cheaper. I love their see through pockets on the outside, ripstop fabric, molded back shell, and the rope handle is an awesome touch. But the internal layout of the orvis seems superior, having the rods in a separate compartment seems like it would be way easier to fit my kingfisher large fly boxes (for saltwater streamers), spools of leader and tippet material, and maybe even a stripped down tying kit in addition to all my reels and spools. I’m torn, looking to hear opinions and experiences from yall.

4” vs 4.5” reels for Bonefish?

How necessary is a 4.5” reel for bonefish?

Hey all I’ve got bonefish dreams and have been slowly gearing up for future Bonefishing trips. I have a Nautilus Classic(4”), a Nautilus GTS (4”), and a new Nautilus GTR. Generally, I don’t like the feel of a larger 4.5” reel on an 8wt, can’t stand how it wants to flop from side to side and twist the rod in my hand, I feel like I have to grip the rod twice as hard despite it being a 6.9oz reel. Wondering how necessary the extra line pickup on the 4.5” vs the 4” really is for bonefish having never caught one on fly.

Nailed it?

Imitation of the “Dark Mantis Shrimp” for bonefish. Shoutout to fly tyers dungeon for the hook and the Congo hair. Also an adaptation of the “Ghetto Super Fly”

~34-35”

weight guesses? Caught on a stonefly nymph. For the carp care police: I beached it in soft hydrilla and kept it over the water.

Anyone use Cortland BackCountry or Guide Taper?

Hey all, Florida man looking at this Cortland Tropic Plus Backcountry fly line. Any experiences on how this taper that is super similar to the guide taper casts? Also how is the memory on the tropic plus lines? I generally prefer fishing long head bonefish style fly lines, Rio Bonefish Elite being my favorite, but sometimes a more aggressive taper is helpful such as in wind or tight spaces. But being a long head kind of guy, I find these short head, long rear taper designs from Cortland highly appealing. Anyone have any experiences on casting these taper styles or how the tropic plus line handles?

Is this tool useful if I’m only tying dog biscuit and pellet flies?

Hey all wondering if this tool is useful for tying dog biscuit flies. I have no plans to tie larger deer hair bugs. Just wondering if this tool is useful for carving/shaving the smaller radius contours on deer hair dog kibble flies.

What breed/color variety of Koi is this and what is its estimated value

I have no plans to sell this fish, I’m just curious what about what this variety is called and what one of this size may be worth. It measured 31”.

First deer hair fly

I want to catch one of these big Florida grass carp on the fly so I bought some dog biscuit flies, but I wasn’t feeling good about trying to land a 15-40lb grass carp on those tiny ahh hooks. So I tried to tie one up on a sz 6 mustad tarpon streamer hook. I think it turned out alright. Just trimmed it up with my regular straight tying scissors. If anything I think I could work on getting more density.

Where is this Miami FL metro(vaguely) lake?

Where is this lake in the Miami area? I know it’s somewhere in southwest Florida, possibly as far south as homestead, FL. There seems to be a public path around this beautiful clear lake where fishing is allowed. I’m visiting Miami this weekend and really want to check it out! I’ve been looking on maps with no luck yet. Any help greatly appreciated. Also @monster_mike86 on IG has posted several other videos of the same lake recently so check that out for further clues.

Best Cuban Sandwiches and cigars Near FIU?

Hey everybody, spending this weekend in Tamiami (maybe a mile west of FIU. Does anyone know a good quick service restaurant for killer Cuban Sandwiches? (not looking for an expensive sit down dinner) Also if anyone knows a good lounge around there where I can buy/smoke a cigar and have a beer around there too, I’d really appreciate recommendations.

Hey yall, just got into tying, I now have a Renzetti saltwater traveler, a bunch of tools, resins, materials, and I need a good bag/case to organize it all for storage and travel! I did score that little bass pro bait binder which is great for the materials that come in smaller bags, but not so much for larger items like capes, flashabou, and definitely can’t store my vise and tools? Unfortunately I don’t have an extra $100-$300 to blow on a fancy fly tying travel case
