15 Years Of Little Mix!!

Happy 15 years of Little Mix.

For years, British pop had been defined by Girl Groups, the Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, All Saints & The Saturdays (to only name a few) had spent years dominating the charts.

By 2011, it was feeling pretty quiet enter Little Mix, originally known as Rhythmix. A group of individual X Factor auditionees became one, and given that is was solely by Kelly Rowland, a girl group icon, they were destined for success. It wasn't long after that they would become the first group to win the show. A feat that remarkably previous high ranking groups One Direction and JLS didn't do.

Within their first year as a group, Little Mix's first two singles 'Canonball' and 'Wings' hit Number One in the UK. Kickstarting a career which over the next ten years would lead to 5 Number Ones, 19 Top 10s and a combined total of every week they were in the top 40 equates to 6.6 years! 2 years of that in the Top 10.

In 2021, the group became the first girl group to win British Group at the BRIT Awards. After previous wins in the British Single and British Video categories.

During their ten years on top they collaborated with legends such as Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Jason Derulo, Cheat Codes, CNCO, Stormzy, Saweetie, MGK & Sean Paul as well as performances and support slots with Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato.

From hosting their own TV Talent Show on BBC1, to being invited to host the MTV EMAs, in 2020 Little Mix were inescapable. And the members all continue to thrive to this day. Whether through their solo music careers and speaking up for incredible causes.

Their legacy is unmatched and there will never be another Little Mix.

Which single in the rollout of an album is the most financially successful and profitable?

So I recently saw an interview with Ryan Tedder discussing the Lil Nas X 'Montero' rollout back in 2021, discussing how 'THAT'S WHAT I WANT' was the last single and that was the best for him, as it was with radio and playlisting the longest out of the lead and second singles. Therefore, most profitable for him in this. Despite the lead being the single with the most attention.

But is this always the case? I'm thinking about the 'Man's Best Friend' era, where 'House Tour' seemed to be more successful upon the album release than when it actually became a single and somewhat underperformed as a single.

So does anyone have any more examples where the last single has likely been the most profitable or has not, or any takes about which single truly is more important. Including if a lead single with attention is better than a long lasting profit.

My first Pop Field Predictions for this year.

Ok so for context here are some of my thoughts..

Pop Duo/Group:

Honestly, I think 'RUNWAY' has a chance, Doechii and Gaga are clearly loved by the academy plus the Bruno Mars intro, I think it is deffo getting a nomination.

In terms of winner, Olivia and Robert. I think Madonna/Sabrina and PinkPantheress/Zara may split the vote leading to Olivia coming out on top

Pop Vocal Album:

I Don't think Bruno or Harry are getting in AOTY, but they r deffo getting in here

Edit: I will complete for all fields I feel an element of knowledge in, this includes the Production, Songwriting, General, Dance, Visual Media etc.

With one month until the eligibility deadline what is everyone's somewhat final Big 4 predictions (along with any other category you want to predict)

Album of The Year

Winner: Olivia Rodrigo

Wildcard: I can kinda see a Madonna win..??

In an ideal world, I'd love to say Ariana had a chance but I don't think she does with the Grammys sadly.

Song of The Year

Winner: Choosin' Texas

Wildcard: Potentially Man I Need

Record Of The Year

Winner: Where Is My Husband

Can't see that going any other way tbh.

Best New Artist

Winner: Ella Langley

Other categories I will predict..

Best Pop Solo Performance

Winner: The Fate of Ophelia or drop dead

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Winner: Should be Pink and Zara.. I think it will be Madonna and Sabrina

Best Pop Vocal Album

Winner: The Art of Loving

Best Music Video

Winner: The Fate Of Ophelia

Best Song Written for Visual Media

Winner: I Knew It, I Knew You

Potential: This could be Sienna's category with Material Lover, it is the kind of song voters love.

Pop Songs that define political and cultureal eras

Inspired by today's change in leadership in the UK. I am curious to know what songs people find synonymous or somewhat nostalgic with political eras if you will.. not only that but also capture the cultural zeitgeist, not just political

Some examples that come to mind include the covid bops of Boris Johnson's leadership

Or Lewis Capaldi's 'Forget Me' which somewhat ironically was number one during Liz Truss' short time as PM.

Curious to know any other songs that spring to people's mind.

edit: please ignore the incorrect spelling of Cultural

Should I contact an A&R

I have lots of songs written lyrics wise, melodically etc. I have concepts, concepts for albums for everything that I want to make musically.

What I don't have is the budget to actually produce these songs, give them actual backing music and record them etc.

Is that where a label could help? Should I send my ideas to an A&R? Finally if I was to send to an A&R is it OK to send vocal lyric demos not recorded and acapella instead of actual demos with music?

Which other collab do you think Little Mix regretted and why?

I remember back in 2020, all four did that virtual interview where they played a game, one of the questions was 'Do you regret any collaborations', the general consensus was that there was one (we all know who that is) but I remember, I think it was Perrie, did say there was two... who do you think was the second collab they regret

Shirley Ballas confirmed on GMB that there is not a new set design.

She also said a few on the lineup would make viewers say 'wow'.

Unrelated to this but does anyone also feel like this new rebrand may see bigger celebrities signing up, viewing figures are expected to increase given the new hosts and people wanting to see the dynamic.

Is Act III having a suprise drop.. next friday???

So, we all know the whole thing with the 29th.. and how we are all convinced it's happening and yet, there's been no announcement.. I think she knows we know it's happening May 29th.

Therefore, we are now in a situation where we think it isn't happening. Perfect for it to surprise and happen.

Not only that, the next few months are looking pretty crowded for albums, so it must be next friday!
