Shark tooth I'd? Bull shark?

Hi all!

I recently went to Juno Beach and found this guy!!!!! I'm from a landlocked state so I'm really happy to find this. Is it a bull shark tooth? I haven't a clue. I looked at some photos to try to ID it. But wanted to reach out to a community who knows their stuff ^_^

Thank you in advance!

Newbie looking to get into archery, any stories of switching from swords to archery?

Hey all!

If you see my post history, I'm a bit of a hot mess right now hobby wise.

I recently got into an SCA chapter near me and tried out heavy armored combat and rapier. However, I have a lot going on right now, so I'm not sure being hit with things and trying to learn at the same time is my thing right now.

I'm thinking of maybe trying out archery, it looks so cool and the sound the arrow makes when it hits a target is nice sounding. Of course I'll have to learn how to do it and it takes time, but it seems like it might be nice.

I guess I just want to hear some stories of people who have done HEMA, SCA(heavy or c&t or rapier), or other martial arts and moved over to archery and found they liked it more.

Thank you in advance!

UPDATE: I should have phrased the question as: I've done HEMA, is there a chance i will enjoy archery? Or will it scratch the same itch?

Y'all I miss Hema

I miss Hema so much :(

The closest group to me is about 3.5 hours away. We have an SCA chapter in the area but i didn't care for the heavy armored combat (using ratan sticks) or for the rapier fencing - i like rapier and dagger but learning the guards and footwork is too much (I know footwork is huge and learning guards is important across the board). Especially driving 2 hours one way to get there

The people are so amazing and I plan to be in the community. But I wish we had cut and thrust (sword and buckler, sabre, longsword etc) in my location but we do not :(

I just want to swing swords around with people 😭

I only did hema for 2 or 3 times/ sessions about 3.5 years ago but I'm still chasing that high. I could start my own, but that's also a ton of work and I don't have the money yet to buy the supplies needed to start.

I've been thinking of archery to try to fill some void of having an unconventional hobby.

This is just a rant about missing being in a Hema hotspot. Thank you for listening

Recommendations for movie night alone?

Hey all! I've got the house by myself tonight and have been wanting to watch some horror. I'm going through a tough time right now and just want some good movies to watch. Idk if horror helps or not 🤣

I was thinking of watching Undertone and maybe a couple others?

I really dug Hokum. Unrelated to Hokum but really, anything A24 is good with me. I really liked Men, especially just how wild the end was.

I do also love a good thriller (I often blur the lines between horror and thriller in my head)

I'm down for a good storyline or anything that'll scare the shit out of me. In the way of jumpscares, I have seen Terrified already and Gonjiam.

Thank you in advance!

Switching from swords to armored combat?

Hi all, I am VERY VERY new to the SCA. I was introduced to it because there is no HEMA group near me, but there is SCA.

I am interested in their rapier combat, but their practices are 2 hours (one way) away from me. However, the armored combat part is closer to me.

Are there any of you who switched from swords to armored combat? If so, why?

Thank you in advance!

Grand junction CO, anyone?

Are there any of you out here? 😭😭

There's not a HEMA group to my knowledge. There used to be but not anymore.

I don't even know if the SCA around here is active either. There is no HEMA except for about 150 miles away.

I'd love to have someone in the area. I just want to pretend like I'm a medieval badass 😭😭😭

Does anyone have any recommendations on learning by yourself?

Fencing Clubs or HEMA near here?

Hey all, do any of you fence or do HEMA or know anyone who does? I'm thinking on trying out the Grand Junction Sports Fencing group and wondered If y'all had any experience with them. Or a HEMA group or something.

Your fencing origin story

Hey all! I know this is a fencing thread but I wanted to hear some stories from those of you who got into fencing.

I've never really been super interested in fencing (because I've seen only really the foil fencing). I got to try HEMA once and I definitely prefer HEMA but there are no clubs near me (and i don't want to start one).

I work out and go to the gym etc but I also try to do fun and different things for cardio. Like Muay Thai or BJJ. However after a recent practice session, I'm not sure I'm really cut out for close contact sports like that.

Anyways! I'm thinking of dipping my toes into fencing and wanted to know of some of your guys' stories who weren't 100% sold on fencing but ended up loving it.

Intense exercise?

Hey all!

I am currently in testing (just did 24h urine collection ordered by an OBGYN after my bloodwork came back with hallmarks for Cushings and not PCOS), and I was wondering, do you ever get overwhelmed super easily when doing intense exercise?

I do Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu, and I get sooooo emotional so easily. I know exercise stresses the body but I'm usually really emotional during or after. I wonder if that's the excess cortisol. Anybody else have something similar happen?

Learned Tomoe Nage

Super stoked. I started jiujitsu classes about 3 weeks ago (2x a week) and someone from class will do drills on the weekends. He's a cool guy and we've chatted about Judo moves and such (I'm really into Judo but there's not a school near me, so jiujitsu it is). I came in today to drill and there was no one else there so he showed me how to do breakfalls, how to pull guard and we lightly played around with the Tomoe Nage though I didn't follow through with a roll to mount.

Basically just posting this because I can see why people get addicted to it. Today was so fun. 🤙

Good instructor accolades? JJJ

Hi all!

I have been interested in Judo and Jiu Jitsu lately. Unfortunately, there are no Judo schools but an abundance of BJJ schools. I am not interested in competitive BJJ. However, I found a school that offers Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and Kajukenbo (just saw this on the site and looks cool)

Because I don't know anything about anything regarding accolades for Jiu Jitsu belts (JJJ or otherwise) I was wondering if I can trust instruction from a person with the following:

• Kenpo Jiu Jitsu - Grand Master 10th Degree Black Belt

• Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu – Yondan 4th Degree Black Belt

• Danzan Ryu Jujitsu – Nidan 2nd Degree Black Belt

• Goshin Jujitsu – Nidan 2nd Degree Black Belt

• Kajukenbo – Professor 8th Degree Black Belt

Thank you in advance!

EDIT: I will be staying away from this place and doing BJJ. There are reputable gyms here. Thank you all!

5th Light Novel Hard Copy?

Hey all!

My girlfriend and I love this series (she's finished the audiobooks and I'm on the 4th) and she desperately wants the 5th Light Novel hard copy. It's $224 on Amazon, and I was wondering if any of you knew of any place it might be less expensive?

Thank you!!!
