Hag Maze Storytime

Missing a few players and need a one shot idea? Feel free to steal mine. Lemme know if you have questions. AMA.

Morgantha was poking for fears. So she trapped two players in a nightmare, which also happened to be a hedge maze. They had nothing. No armor, no arcane focus, no sword.

Walking thru they ran into encounters like the other party members turning into monsters, saving Ez (who was also dreaming, but they didn’t know it yet), a false Ismark and Ireena that became cruel and violent at the right time. The Abbot to torment my Lathander cleric, Strahd turning the other PCs wife, and some fun encounters like Phase Spiders and Bee Swarms, a drowning room trap, a fall trap, and duo of Dopplergangers, just to sew distrust even more.

Of course I’m not a complete monster, they were able to find items left by others to help. A breastplate, a hat of wizardry, 3 fireball beads, and my favorite, a random mattress the cleric grabbed to use to safely traverse a pit trap. He proceeded to then carry said mattress thru the entire maze. (The map had a bed on it, so it was a “safe room”, also where they found Ez)

The whole idea worked bc if they did die, they were sent back to the center of the maze, and had to find each other using the sending stones left there. They never did though. Each also had a “win” condition. For the Cleric, it was saving Ez and retrieving her leg from the big black werewolf that lurked in the maze. For the Wizard, it was confront and defeat your vampire spawn wife.

They ended it by duo fireballing the Strahd illusion, who has turned back into the hag to be pissed they were so successful. It was a fun time, full of psychological horror and whimsy.

Aloe Vera Plant

I just got a random plant in my grocery delivery. Clearly it was not meant for me but my heart aches at this poor thing, root choked and dehydrated from Walmarts garden section.

So far, I’ve taken it out of its pot, shook loose the packed dirt, rinsed the roots, trimmed dead leaves, gently packed her back into the pot, gave her a lil water and put her in a north facing window.

I HAVE NEVER OWNED A PLANT. Am I doing this right? Any advice? I have cats, and I’m pretty positive it’s okay for them to be around.

Help please and thank you lol

Nightmare Labyrinth

Hey y’all, I’m running a lil one shot in between sessions cuz some of my players are gonna be gone.

So Morgantha has concocted a nasty nightmare for them. A fae labyrinth.

The two of them are going to wake up on a hedge maze, with one of their loved ones running off in opposite directions. End goal to escape is to find the loved one and face the fear of losing them.

However, I need some fun, whimsical or down right nasty fae and plant monsters to fill the maze with.

If they die, they return to the center of the maze and have to find each other again. Very backrooms vibes is what I’m going for, no tpks.

So watcha got?

So far I’ve found Assassin Vines, Body Snatcher Plants, and Dobblegangers

Words or Actions?

Hi, fairly new DM here.

I’ve been running Curse of Strahd for the last year. At first, it was great. Everyone was engaged and involved. Halfway thru, our Wizard moved states and became online, and we added a Bard. All of us are friends outside of game.

In the last few months however, the energy has shifted. Less note taking, less roleplay, more phone time. Our Druid even fell asleep a few times.

When confronted, I have been told that no, everyone is having so much fun and they love it. And then they cancel on me day of, three this last Wednesday. Life gets in the way I get it, but come on. We’ve had one session in two months.

I told them to let me know when they want to meet up, cuz at this point I’ve been the only one scheduling, and now it’s a week with radio silence from everyone but the Cleric, who is my husband so doesn’t count. He’s very vocal about what he does and doesn’t enjoy and he noticed it too.

So what do I do? Do I wait? Do I cave and schedule it again? Do I take them at their words that they have fun even though some are falling asleep at my table? I really don’t know how to address this.

Feel free to ask any clarifying questions. Thank you.

Am I missing something in Reloaded?

As title says, I’m going thru Arc L Den of Wolves, and at the end it mentions awarding the players for freeing Ilya and Zulieka, but doesn’t make mention of how to do so or how Bianca would respond to that or where to take them after? No mention of returning them to the Krezkovs or anything? Istg I’ve at least skimmed thru each chapter several times and I can’t find it.

Helpppp plz and thanks.

Small edit: The Cleric is played by my husband. He’s very good at arguing, so I am very much expecting verbal pushback before any violence occurs. Any ideas for comebacks welcome 😈

So I’m running Reloaded with some tweaks to account for player backstory.

Two of my PCs worship Lathander, a Cleric and Monk respectively. They are about to meet the Abbot.

Knowing them, I expect them to come to blows with the Abbot when he punishes Vasilka for the flower crown.

I’m trying to decide how the Abbot would react to two Dawnbringers asking him to stop. Would he listen? Would he call them hypocrites for their bias sense of justice, or pity them for their humanly empathy?

Lemme know what you think. Thanks!
