Dying to Style for Office

Dying to Style for Office

The office is business casual and I can generally get away with going a little over the top because I’m intentional about putting things together. I desperately want to wear these decidedly not professional pants to the office. Thinking of crisp white button up (silky not boxy cotton) or black sleeveless turtleneck. Any other ideas?

Bridesmaid Shoe Help

I am the MOH for my best friend’s wedding Halloween weekend. He and his fiancé lean a little ostentatious and told me to find a black velvet maxi dress so I’m wearing this vintage Jean Paul Gaultier (reviewed and approved by my friend with enthusiastic blessing before you tell me it’s too much for a gay Halloween wedding). I’m stumped on shoes. I think it needs a super minimal strappy something that doesn’t take away from the dress but that feels out of place for late October. What are my other options? Pointy toe pump? Only black? The wedding colors are navy and crimson.

Disappointed and need a palate cleanser

I just finished Jennifer Saint’s Hera. I’ve read and loved her Elektra, Atalanta, Ariadne. I read a lot of this type of novel (see also Costanza Casati’s Clytemnestra, Madeline Miller’s Circe, Lauren Bear’s Medusa’s Sisters just to name a few) and in the Greek mythology universe Hera is always a side character known for her wrath against Zeus’ lovers and children. I was so excited to see what her own story would be.

The book was…..fine. Hera came off to me as just petty, insecure, constantly failing where others succeeded and whining about it. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I was so disappointed. I’m wondering if anyone can suggest another book that takes a different approach to Hera. I’m open to her not being the title character. Pretty open to type of book except not looking for strictly smut. I’ve read most of Katee Roberts’ Dark Olympus series and it’s great, just not what I’m after here. Thanks!

Headpiece Help Update

My original post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Brides/s/Kk6o1WIyES

Still undecided on a headpiece but made some jewelry changes based on last post feedback and got a photo of everything together today (dress fit isn’t exactly right because it’s a store sample clipped). Tried on some veils instead of a headpiece but still making up my mind…

More Dating Help!

I bought this dress and can find absolutely nothing about it online. Hoping to track down a general date. It’s not nearly as bright blue as it shows in the first two photos, it’s a very dark navy. Thanks!!

Help Dating Shoes

I’m trying to date my new-to-me BV shoes. Google says they were launched in 2019-2020 but I found a post of them in the khaki color that seems dated 2017. I looked back over the runway shows in/around 2017 with no luck. Thanks!

Headpiece Help!

Looking for suggestions. The wedding vibe is maximalist. I’m 40 so not a 20-something blushing bride. My gown is a strapless ballgown with a slit. I’m wearing the shoes pictured. I’m also wearing the pictured 3-strand large pearl necklace. I bought the photographed headpiece and it looks very mumsy when all put together. It needs more edge and maybe to pull the color from the shoes? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Updates: venue for ceremony is a planetarium with the dome lit up with skyscape. Reception is at an art deco supper club. No veil. I had thought my hair would be down but now I’m thinking about jeweled combs I might consider pulled back. It won’t be half up/half down because that never works for me.

Can’t add more photos to show the dress but here’s a link: https://www.davidsbridal.com/product/sculpted-corset-bodice-satin-wedding-dress-swg1031?Color=Soft+White&Size=2

Send Help!

My husband has recently had a lifestyle change in that he now has to have a medical IV infusion continuously, indefinitely. The bag provided is a generic canvas shoulder/cross body bag designed entirely for function (1st photo). We want to find him something fun he can carry this in but also his regular things (phone, wallet) because he’ll no longer have immediate access to his pockets because of the bag. The inside of the provided bag has all sorts of clips and Velcro etc to keep the gear in place so we do probably plan to keep it and just put it inside something else. Ideally some kind of pocket inside the bag so he doesn’t have to dig too much if he needs one of his regular items.

He is not at all a bag boy, being generally more interested in what makes it easier to work on his car than how he looks. But I’m a bag girlie and he’s game for something special, figuring if he’s gotta always carry it why not (I’m currently daily-ing a two-tone blue Gucci swing tote). The other photos are things I favorited before we knew how big all the equipment was so they won’t really work but give an idea of the vibes we’re thinking. It’s going to be with him 24/7 and carried around, put down, get a little beat up. Any recommendations would be appreciated!!
