Doesn’t look like a monarch egg… but what is it?
Shape and color are off for a monarch egg. But it’s something!

Question from my son. He remembered from the museum at blue mountain lake that whiteface used to have one, but I’m not aware of any others. Obviously some would not be good candidates, but it seems like some would.
All of my helianthus are just covered in red aphids, and oleander aphids are getting my milkweed. I’ve seen like 2 ladybugs. Anything I can do to attract more aphid predators or deal with these?
Milkweed tussock of some sort?
…and I’m getting so many phone calls, emails, and even personalized Reddit ads about it. Chill, Ford!
Found map in hiking book from the 80s.
Edit: I mean the tent site, not parking area!
Doing presi this week, planning for first night at valley way, and the second night I have a spot booked at LotC hut. What happens if I get to valley way and it’s full? Any advice? Thanks! I’ve backpacked a lot in the Adirondacks but only once before in the whites.
I know hack and squirt for larger trees. What about trees or shoots like 3-6 feet tall, with 1.5 inch or less diameter? I don’t want to spray. For these small ones, can I just snip the trunk and apply concentrated glyphosate to the cut?
During this drive, I’d been at 100% usage for driving. Then after about 5 miles, it suddenly shot to this. I didn’t have AC on, and fan was low, so the 11% climate doesn’t make sense. Also, it was 65 degree F outside, so I was surprised about the exterior temperature at 11%.
Any idea what’s going on with this, or are these numbers just not really to be trusted?
I believe they’re using my arrowwood viburnum as a larval host. Love these guys!
Our old one is now out of network for us, and we’re looking for alternatives. Thank you!
I think my son, 7 years, is ready for Cascade and Porter this summer, but I'd like to do something a little easier first. The biggest hike he did last year was Bear Den Mountain (near Whiteface), 3.2 miles RT, 1300 ft gain. I'd like something harder than that one but more accessible than the easiest high peaks. Southern ADK would be nice. Is Buck mountain by Lake George a good option? Any other suggestions?
Freshly hatched!
I planted a hop tree/ wafer ash for giant swallowtails, but I know it’s not those. I’ve got a bunch of these eggs, though!! ID?
When you take your foot off the accelerator in one-pedal driving, how much and:or when do the brakes engage? I could imagine it’s all regenerative at first, but once it gets to slow speeds, it certainly feels like brakes engage to put you quickly at a full stop. Does anyone know more, beyond guessing like me?
I'm looking to organize a river rafting day trip for about 15-20 people in the Adirondacks, location flexible, but ideally somewhere roughly in the triangle around Indian Lake / Lake George / Lake Placid.
This would (unfortunately) have to be on the Sunday before Labor Day. I'd like something that's somewhat adventurous but still relaxing: nothing crazy or that would feel super dangerous! I imagine that that time of year, the water levels will be relatively low?
Any suggestions? I'm finding a number of companies, but it's hard to get a sense of how wild the rapids are.
