Got some new dubbing and love using Walts worms

Inspired by Pat Weiss and his mustard walts I had to grab a bag (along with caddis green) so made up a bunch earlier along with some olive ptn’s

Anyway to prevent tungsten beads coating/paint coming off?

Is there a varnish or something that can be applied prior to give them more protection on rocky bottoms etc?

Have you noticed a difference between cheaper tungsten and say Fulling Mills and Hanak for example in terms of finish quality out the pack?

This was from a cheap company so wondering if you get what you pay for with tungsten these days..this was a nice olive bead then after a few casts looks like this

Some recent ties from walts worms to frenchies & just trying experiments with caddis

Been tying for a few months and still learning but absolutely love it. Being able to now replicate one of my fave nymphs (Fulling Mill black & red Frenchie) by myself which I would buy pre made before, is a great feeling but doesn’t compare to catching them on your own.

Actually lost the biggest fish I ever had on the end of my line on one of my pheasant tails last week, a 8lb+ wild brown snapped me after a long fight.

But, I finally went down the rabbit hole and wish I learned much sooner after 15+ years of fly fishing

Question for all euro nymphers, which style jig hook do you snag less with?

I use Hanak a 400 & 450 so one has a straighter hook and the other curved slightly. Does the hook point style make any difference to your chances of becoming snagged less on the bottom and getting a snag out when it’s too deep to wade?

It’s a catch 22 because I feel like the 400 hook will snag more and more difficult to recover from a snag I have to snap it, while it loses fish less often than a 450… or just me?

I might just use a 450 on the point and 400 dropper from now on 😆

Our identity was lost a long time ago. Trying to replicate Spain was out biggest mistake

Look back to whenever we competed in World Cups and Euros in the 90s - early 00s and we used to play long and through balls often, not scared to give away possession.

Ever since I’d say 2020 probably much sooner, we tried to copy Spain and the tiki-taka bullshit which was never our style. We got away with it for Euro 2020 mainly because of Bonucci who was one of the best passing central defenders we ever had… but our build up play for such a long time has been slow, boring and never a threat to the opposition.

We simply need better defenders so if we give away the ball it doesn’t matter really, so many times
In qualifying for this WC and in set pieces and counter attacks we have been vulnerable and lacking in quality. That and a new Pirlo is the backbone to a good Azzurri going forward.

I’d say Verratti and Montolivo were our last good midfield playmakers with Ricci not given much of a chance. This is as important as having our defence solid again.

Just my two cents

Anyone tried pierre semp? Which colour is most visible?

I don’t like knots in my euro mono rigs, I use about 35ft of straight mono to tippet ring and currently using Adams 4.5x which is ok but want to go thinner.

Looking at the pierre semp 0.14mm or 0.16mm and recommendation for best colour? Solid or multi? Can always use a sakura marker for solid line.
TIA

Wish I leaned sooner

Have been fly fishing for 15+ years, did a lot of dry fly only for a while and moved on to euro nymphing for when hatches and rises are non existent. Don’t know which I prefer but love both…until recently I always bought pre made flies and nymphs.

Anyway, it’s been a month since I learned to tie my own and really wish I picked up the hobby sooner. It’s addicting and still have a lot to learn but it just adds a whole new dimension to the hobby we all love, not to mention the feeling and satisfaction you get from hooking into any fish from one of your own flies. Can’t beat it.

I have had some monsters this season, probably my best season on the river for browns and grayling ever.

Today, I hooked into a giant wild brownie on the river, must have been around 10lbs, no exaggeration and an absolute fish of a lifetime. Fight lasted ages and snapped me in the end but the kicker was it was my own tie, so can’t complain ✌️

Olive ptn experimental

Olive everything, pheasant tail, wire, cdc and dubbing collar. Need a heavy point fly for those fast deep runs so size 12 Haank 450 and 3.8mm slotted black tungsten hoping to get down fast

The only watch I ever need

Was going through all my fish pics and this thing has been with me the entire time!
Wear it everyday, every time I’m out fishing and exploring.
Had it many years now and has been dunked countless times in water, dropped, and still looks brand new.
All the while solar charging without me realising and accurate to the second with the daily atomic clock.

To me it’s the greatest watch of all time and I’m not a big collector because I don’t need another one honestly

We would have been an embarrassment if we did qualify

Currently watching the USA vs Paraguay game and can safely say if we did get to this WC with that Gattuso squad we would have got destroyed.

So far USA and South Korea look strong. Mexico decent and could easily beat our qualifying squad, haven’t even seen the better teams play yet but looks like the lesser teams have all upped their game so we would have struggled with anyone imo.

Sure, we have u21 players that can compete but they would never get picked so my point is, if Italy qualified Gattuso would still be manager and he would not have made much/if any changes to the squad if we were here and 100% not have a chance

First fish on my own nymph

Very new to tying after around 15+ years of fly fishing. Began with nymphs a few weeks ago and looking to try making some dries this summer too

Anyone use slotted tungsten with the slit?

Instead of being circular these are more oval shaped and think I prefer them, just makes the nymph profile look better to me and slightly easier to seat when tying, no issues of tippet becoming frayed either
