First time tying, should work right?
Attempt of a Frenchie. Made a few with 3.5mm and some with 4mm beads.
Some pics are during my attempts and some after while watching tutorials on youtube haha. Pretty scruffy whip finishes and not body not as thin as I want but will keep trying
A week of hogs - 3 different fish, same river, same 3wt rod pulling em in
Got everything I need to tie this nymph, right?
Complete tying noob, have never tied before after many years of fly fishing or euro nymphing etc
Didn’t want to buy a starter kit full of materials I might not use so went to the store and wanted materials for just this one nymph which the guy helped me pick stuff separately. I like it but the pre made ones fall apart after few casts or fish, maybe the wire is too thin guy said so got thicker wire.
Also got stuff for some olive walts worms and hares ears too apparently. Just wanted to focus/practice with this one pattern to begin with and got a few different bead weights for my point flies.
Trying to find pre-made nymphs in store with anything heavier than 3.5mm is difficult!
I know the hooks are different but should I stick with them for nymphing or any others you recommend?
I cheaped out on the vise tbh as it was all adding up (coq de leon & £33 per bag) 😭 but it can rotate and came with 10pc of pretty cheap looking tools in box but can upgrade them later if I enjoy it
Best presentation for more dry fly takes?
9ft or 12ft leader? Smallest tippet ring on the end of that to preserve the leader or not? Mono or fluorocarbon tippet? Leader sink/mud for glare on sunny days? Best floatant you’ve tried?
It’s possibly what we all started learning fly fishing with (myself included) but I think the most difficult to get good numbers of trout on any given day.
I know many a fly fisherman who only use dries, never cast a line unless they see a rise and admire them but I don’t have time for that which is why I nymph and use streamers when rises are few and far between or weathers crap.

Crappest generation of players we’ve ever had
But do think 4 years is enough time for a new and much improved squad especially with how decent the u21 teams have been. Things just need to be done properly this time behind the scenes because I do think the younger generation has a lot of potential as long as figc, new manager(s) and coaches don’t fuck it up along the way.
Lower leagues also need scouted just as much as Serie a
Pb river brown from the other day
3wt rod and 2.5lb tippet pushed to the limits. Very long fight and a pig to net.
Hardest fighting fish of my life and quite possibly just experienced the brownie of my lifetime
New pb built like Brock Lesnar
2.5lb tippet I thought was going to snap at any given point on 3wt rod bent like a candy cane. Unbelievably difficult to net and a long ass fight but she fully recovered for the release.
Unreal day
The story of the missing forceps
Believed to be gone forever, dropped and hidden in deep grass or better yet at the bottom of the river.
Rewind to last weekend - pulled them out making some adjustable dropper perfection loops (check out Old Trout Bum on YT) which is a fantastic method when you’re fishing dries on a euro nymph setup.
Rested the forceps somewhere on my pack, saw a rise and quickly walked towards it. That was where they were last seen.
After a few miles of walking was when I noticed they were gone, usually on my shoulder strap. Searched everywhere and went back to where I thought I dropped them. Nowhere to be found after looking for a while, they are great for crushing barbs and double as scissors too, along with getting hooks out, pretty handy so was quite annoyed.
Anyway, today went fishing and about to order another pair later. Got left foot into waders and at the bottom felt something, thought was my shoulder wader straps stuck… pulled out the damn forceps! Couldn’t believe it, now back where they belong.
Hope this wasn’t a crap story but had to share 😂 anyone else lost something fishing related and by some miracle found it again?
So this deadly dropper & point duo has been working great for me last few days, especially the one on the point.
Must have had over 20 fish in two days mostly all on that nymph, from good sized brownies to tiddlers, even some grayling and salmon parr.
I know it’s a pheasant tail of some kind, had in my box for a few years and first time using it. I don’t tie my own yet but would like to try find who makes them for the meantime.
Dropper nymph is a dark knight Croston if anyone’s wondering.
I buy fulling mill most of the time but ain’t one of theirs and can’t remember where I bought em
Can’t find any info on the sink rate for the Fast version but thought these look ideal for my streamer fishing on the river for trout, and even useful for swinging wet flies.
Also the built in welded swivel looks pretty handy for easy tippet changes and avoiding line twist.
Have a 5wt and 7wt rod, which would you choose to use these on for streamers and has anyone use these before? Thanks
